J. Ken Geddes, Jr.
After graduating from Loyola University with a B.S. in Mathematics in 1972, I went on the road with the Serendipity Singers where I sang, played the bass, and toured the country doing shows with Bob Hope, Bill Cosby, Roger Miller, Cher, and others. I continued to work full-time as a musician for several years, ending up in Hawaii playing in a top-40 rock-and-roll dance band. I took a course in BASIC programming at the University of Hawaii, followed by graduate courses in computer science at Loyola Marymount University. In 1978, I started work as a computer programmer/systems analyst at Hughes Aircraft Company in El Segundo. I continued to take graduate courses in C.S. and work as a programmer/analyst/nerd and/or musician. I started teaching part-time in 1994 at SMC and later at LMU. I completed an M.S. degree in C.S. at LMU in 2000 and started teaching full-time the same year. I have played about a dozen musical instruments in about as many bands and have taken a couple of dozen C.S. courses. I love my wife, teaching at SMC, learning, math, computer science, music, cyclo-touring (spent seven months touring the U.S. and Canada once), my new house, nature, and hiking (not necessarily in that order).
