Rock Movie Reviews

Books

First the multiples –
- Meg Cabot – I still haven’t read all her books, but I did finally finish the Princess Diaries series
- Michele Jaffe – after seeing her with Meg Cabot doing “Read Our Lips” I sought out her books. Bad Kitty and Kitty Kitty made me laugh so hard. Loved!
- Nancy Drew – I was on a real kick of reading these this year. Luckily the library had some of the reprints of the originals and it was interesting to compare them with the rewrites from a few decades later.

And now the actual books
- The Graveyard Book – Neil Gaiman
- Quakeland – Francesca Lia Block
- Jellicoe Road – Melina Marchetta
- Dead Until Dark – Charlaine Harris
- The Thirteenth Tale – Diane Setterfield
- Rejuvenile: Kickball, Cartoons, Cupcakes, and the Reinvention of the American Grown-up – Christopher Noxon
- Tie – I’m calling these the Rock’n’Roll books
o I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone – Stephanie Kuehnert
o The Singer – Cathi Unsworth
o I Can See Clearly Now – Brendan Halpin

Movies

Hey, I actually went to a movie theater twice this year. Wait, if you include my trip to see Cinematic Titanic, it’s three but that’s more theater even if a movie is involved. In any case, I cannot list Twilight as one of my favorite movies of the year since I actually turned to my friend and apologized after it was over.

- Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince
- Nancy Drew
- Penelope
- Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day
- Stardust
- Hamlet 2
- Nick & Nora’s Infinite Playlist
- Role Models
- Killer Hair / Hostile Makeover – Lifetime sure has been trying to modernize their image with things like these terrific adaptations from Ellen Byerrum’s Crimes of Fashion books. I really hope they make more
- And finally in the odd but compelling category, two movies I couldn’t get out of my head even if I’m not sure how I felt about them – Southland Tales and The Air That I Breathe

TV

This is always the hardest category but I really tried to wean it down to those shows that got the most reaction out of me - squealing, laughing, clapping, yelling, gasping, and dancing around.
