GMRune: Ayeye remains back in her brother Jarrek's house, where she could hear the sounds ofthe battle fade away. As she turns around to look for Kadan she notices that he has disappeared from the room. Ayeye: Kadan? Ayeye gets up and starts to look for Kadan. GMRune: Kadan does not appear to be in the house. Outside Ayeye hears some villagers coming back towards their homes. There are mutterings of some sort of purpose being fulfilled. Ayeye leaves the house and stops a nearby villager. "Have you seen a big guy... really big... armored, carrying a big axe?" Villager: Um... actually yes, I saw some big guy heading out towards the village wall. There's a nice view of the surrounding land from the section he was heading to. Ayeye runs out toward the wall. "Thank you." Villager: You're welcome, Ayeye. Kadan is seen as a black silhouette in the distance, holding his weapon solemnly to the ground as his scruffy hair is slightly unsettled by the cool breeze. Ayeye is startled for a second by her name, but quickly recovers and continues. Ayeye: Kadan! Kadan turns his head slightly to the right without changing his posture. Ayeye: What are you doing out here? Kadan takes a deep breath. "Just... thinking. Things are getting pretty complicated now. I need to figure out what my next move is. I'm... well... I'm not quite sure where I stand now." Kadan: You better head back to the cabin. I don't think it's entirely safe out here yet. Ayeye sits down beside Kadan. "I know... I'm confused also." Kadan: Well, I think Jarrek can help you more than I can. After some of the things I've seen on this trip, I'd almost welcome the streets of Lentol again, but I'm in too deep. I'm not sure where I should head next. The only thing I'm sure of is that I'll be alone this time. GMRune: Kadan and Ayeye hear a slight commotion and see Jarrek coming towards them. Ayeye shakes her head. "Alone... no... I'll go with you. I don't know about this place. It may have been home once, but, well, I've changed... I don't understand them anymore. It's not home anymore." Kadan smiles and looks at the ground. "No, Ayeye... You're better off without me. Let me explain..." Kadan looks up at the sun. Kadan: You see... my journey began right here, in this very village. I had heard rumors of the Serpent's Staff existence, and wanted to destroy it, just as I've destroyed countless other magical artifacts, places, and... well... people. Kadan: I thought that if I could wipe magic from the face of this world, I could somehow... vindicate Kate's life and what she taught me. I thought she would be proud of me if I destroyed the force that robbed her of her future. Kadan: When I hunted the Staff to Shelladon and found you, I found what I thought was a kindred spirit. A comrade who would help me oppose the dark blight of sorcery. After we fought for our lives together, I... I suppose it stirred up memories of fighting with Kate, and somewhere in the back of my mind I thought the fates had granted me another sister. Kadan: Even after seeing what you could do in the Ratling Keep, I wanted us to complete this mission together, and destroy the Serpent Staff once and for all. But now... I know it can never be that way. Kadan: Jarrek is here... your own flesh and blood, so you don't need me as a brother anymore. What's more... the Serpent Staff is a sacred relic of your ancestors, so there's no way I can destroy it now and disgrace your people. I... I just don't know if I'm useful anywhere anymore... Ayeye frowns and lowers her head. "I see...you hate what I am." Kadan turns his head and kneels down, putting his chapped, tattered glove under Ayeye's chin. Kadan: No... no, that's not it at all. I've come to respect you so much... that I can't continue with my hunt now. Now that I know the Serpent Staff belongs to your people, I don't feel right destroying it. And now that you and Jarrek are re-united, you don't need me to guide, teach, or protect you anymore. Ayeye: Of course I need you, just as I always have. Jarrek is less my family than you are. I don't know these people, I don't know their customs, or traditions, or motivations, or anything. I'm just as much a stranger here as you. The only difference is, I was appearently born here. The truth is, I would rather stay with you than with them. Come on, we can recover this staff for them, then, I'm sure we'll find something else to do. Kadan's head sinks while he emits a heavy sigh of thought through his nose. Kadan twists his axe in the ground, his head swimming with conflicting thoughts. Kadan: I don't know, Ayeye. Things just keep getting more and more dangerous. I'm afraid that if I'm around you too long, then eventually we'll run into a nasty situation and I'll be forced to save us by... well... Kadan trails off... Ayeye: But this situation would never come up without me? Kadan: Well, it's different. I don't want you to be there to see me when I have no choice but to... well... let me just say it's dangerous. You look like you could have a peaceful life here, assuming Nissa doesn't return. Ayeye: I don't want a peaceful life! I would rather be constantly watching my back, but have my friends near, then be stuck here with these strangers. Besides, there's probably nothing you could do that could surprise any of us now. Kadan giggles and looks at the ground. "You'd be surprised..." Kadan looks at Ayeye with a glimmer of determination. "Well, you do have a point, Ayeye." Ayeye stays straight faced. "Try me." Kadan: To hear it from your mouth, I think I have a bit more grasp on things. Whatever the future holds for you and me, let's at least find the others and make sure they're alright. Maybe we should tell Jarrek we're heading out first." Ayeye: Yes... err... now that you mention it, I haven't seen the others since they left to fight the warlocks... Jarrek is within sight of Kadan and Ayeye. He seems to be waiting for them to finish talking. Kadan chuckles slightly. "Well, without us they're pretty helpless, right? They're probably tied up and beaten like a group of harp seals right now. Hehe." Ayeye notices Jarrek. She lowers her eyes and blushes. "This may sound cliche, but how long have you been there?" Kadan gulps as his face turns red. "Jarrek! I didn't touch your sister at all. We were just talking! Honest!" Jarrek blinks. "Um... I was just waiting for you to finish talking so I could tell you something about your friends." Jarrek: I wasn't standing here that long, I think. At any rate, I didn't really hear anything. Kadan breathes deeply. "Good. So you see, you have no reason at all to suspect our involvement with the Japanese mafia. We got this money by fighting evil monsters, I swear!" Jarrek: Uh... Ayeye? Is he usually like this? Ayeye: No, usually he doesn't make any sense. Ayeye: So... umm... what was that about our friends? Jarrek looks even more perplexed now. He shakes his head. "Nevermind. I came to tell you that your friends have been captured by the Banshee warlock." Ayeye: The Banshee warlock? I thought it was Nissa attacking? Kadan blinks exactly twice. "Run that by me again?" Jarrek: House NIssa's apparently called in a Banshee warlock for some reason. We're guessing that reason is to capture your friends. They called their retreat right after they were captured. Jarrek: Your friends are likely stuck in the enemy camp right now. Ayeye looks at Kadan. "You win the bet, they can't do anything right without us." Kadan rolls his eyes over to Ayeye. "Great. Just... great. Can't do anything without us! Oh well, I guess it's up to us to rescue them, huh? Why don't we ever get the option to go vacationing on some tropical island?" Ayeye: Is the camp still outside of the town? Jarrek: Yes, it is. They haven't moved out yet. Ayeye: So Kadan, how do you want to do this? We have the advantage, I think... They may still think I'm on their side. Kadan hurls his blade over his shoulder with a sharp *shing* is it's ripped from the dry dirt below. "I guess our work is never done. We'd better scope out the camp... make sure they don't see us coming." Ayeye: We might be able to walk in, if we had a way to come from the outside... I've still got that armband. Kadan: Let's see how well guarded it is. I'm sure there's a breach that's just waiting to be discovered. Ayeye reaches into her backpack and pulls out the armband. "Maybe we can return Garreth's empty backpack to someone..." Kadan rubs his chin. "Hmm... that is crafty. Even a bit clever. I would like to have a backup plan, though." Jarrek: Do you need me to come with you? I'm afraid the warlocks will recognize me too easily, but if you need the support... Ayeye: Jarrek? Any idea if they know that I've been... err... captured? Kadan: If we run into trouble, the more people we have, the better. Let's sneak up on them and find a place to observe. Kadan puts his hand over his brow and tries to spot the camp. Jarrek: I'm sorry, Ayeye. But I really have no idea what they think of you right now. GMRune: Kadan can see the group of tents sprawled out near the edge of the farmland near the border of the trees. Kadan squints and tries to see what kind of defenses the camp has GMRune: The camp has roughly two warlocks guarding the entrance of every tent, and then there are a few more just wandering about. Kadan carefully calculates their rotation to spot a vulernable place where the camp could be entered relatively safely. Kadan points his hand toward the southeast corner of the camp. "We enter there." Ayeye follows Kadan's hand. Ayeye: I hope you're right. Kadan skulks down like a puma and starts prowling toward the camp. Jarrek follows closely after Kadan. Ayeye follows Kadan, in a not nearly as predatory manner. GMRune: The smaller purple tents to the southeast get closer. A warlock stands guard before each of them, but they haven't noticed you yet. Ayeye puts on the armband. GMRune: The black snake and dagger symbol glows softly for a moment. Kadan tries to stay out of the sunlight and slowly approach the tents, making his way behind the guard's back if possible. GMRune: Kadan leads the party safety out of the warlocks' sight. A snuffling sound comes from within out of those tents though. It sounds somewhat familiar. Ayeye stops to listen to the sound. Kadan raises his hand to communicate 'stop' to Jarrek. GMRune: The snuffling sound gets slightly louder and footsteps pad in your direction. Kadan tilts his head, trying to listen. Jarrek comes to a silent halt. Kadan whispers, "Smegs..." Kadan tip-toes past the tent, trying to make his way to less hostile one. Ayeye sneaks after Kadan. "Oh..." GMRune: The smeg within the tent squeals loudly and a warlock yells at it to shut up. GMRune: There appears to be a commotion a little further into the camp. Several warlocks are inching further away from their posts to try to get an ear or eyeful of what's happening. GMRune: The group of you wake up in a dingy tent. Your wrists and ankles are tied tightly together and the tent is dark. You can make out the shadow of a warlock standing guard outside of your makeshift prison. Strangely, Valina is not here with you. Arzel groans. Earendil ignores the pain for a moment. "Valina?! Where is Valina?" Geint: OooooooooOoo... ~Rein groggily shakes his head. "ugh...." Tarrant drifts into reality. Geint: Waa... what happened? GMRune: Geint is not only tied up, but stuck in a little sack with her head sticking out of it. Tarrant regains feelings in the lower half of his body. Geint: O_O Geint: I'm..... in a bag! ~Rein looks at Geint. "I guess they thought you might fly away." Arzel: Poor Geint. Earendil's eyes fill with tears and he starts quietly sobbing about how he let Valina down again. Arzel sees if he can slip out of these cuffs. "I dunno...it worked when Kaddy betrayed us..." Geint: =( Tarrant: That's not going to help her, Earendil. Geint: This SUCKS. Earendil snaps at Tarrant. "Oh just leave me alone!" Arzel quietly goes, "I got my hands free... but my damn wrists hurt." Tarrant looks for a sharp object in the tent. Par: Take it easy Ear. Even if Valina isn't with us, she must be somewhere. Maybe they put her something else because she's a woman. Or maybe that isn't such a good idea.... GMRune: Tarrant can find only Geint's fangs. Tarrant: Hey, Geint, chew through your bag. Earendil's mind starts filling with all sorts of horrible things the warlocks could be doing to Valina. "Those bastards!" Geint tries. Arzel tries to get Geint out of the bag, now that his hands are free. Earendil starts struggling violently at his bindings. "If they lay one hand on her, I blast them so hard, they'll land on the Blue Star!" Geint: *Munch* *Munch* *Stops so that she doesn't munch Arzy's ghands* GMRune: Geint begins gnawing on part of her bag when Arzel inches over and unties the knot holding the mouth of the bag shut. It's much better than tasting burlap, although Geint's legs are still tied together. Arzel tries to untie Geint's legs too. Geint smiles at Arzel. Geint: Thanks. =) GMRune: Geint is now free. ^_^ Arzel: No prob, Geint. Arzel sees if he can get his feet free. Earendil: Hurry, get me free now! I have to go find her! GMRune: Arzel unties his ankles. Arzel: I can't move yet Ear... gimme a min. Geint walks over to Earendil and tries to bite through the rope. Arzel goes over to Ear and unties him, then unties everyone else. Par: This sure is slow going. Par: Thanks, Arzel. Tarrant: Thanks... Now let's get out of here. GMRune: The party is freed and can stretch their limbs. You still feel quite battered though. Everyone is at 1 hp. Tarrant cast heal aura on the group. GMRune: Everyone regains 220 hp except Rein who goes to max. Earendil is about to rush out of the tent seething with anger but regains his sanity for a moment and whispers, "Geint, see if you can put our guard to sleep." Arzel: So... what are we going to do? GMRune: Geint casts Smoke Choke! The guard keels over in a loud coughing fit! He hacks as though he smoked ten years worth of weed in one sitting. Geint: *Whisper* Should have used herbal breeze... GMRune: You hear voices outside asking what's the matter. Par: Good idea... Earendil restrains himself from strangling Geint. Earendil: I said to sleep, not a noisy coughing fit. Geint nervously flies to Arzel. =\ Arzel: Uhh... what are we going to do/ Geint: Well... this is my fault... so... I'll have to be a distraction, won't I... Earendil: Well, every warlock is looking at the front of our tent now, let's see if there are any at the back end of the tent. GMRune: From the shadows against the tent, you see that the choked guard is being carried off and one of the figures is heading to the opening of the tent. Geint peeks to see what's happening outside of the tent. Geint: O_O Earendil stands up against the side of the tent flap. Geint jets outside and swooshes out the main entrance of the tent!!!!! GMRune: A shout rises up then the sounds of warlocks trampling after Geint. Earendil: Geint, get back here! Arzel: D'oh! Tarrant: Let's use the diversion. Tarrant leaves the tent. Geint does her best to evade them all. Earendil slowly walks out of the tent. GMRune: The flap to the tent is ripped open and the party sees Damon standing in the entry. He regards you coldly. "I see the guards should have been greater." Earendil: You! Where have you taken Valina? Arzel sighs. Earendil rushes Damon before he has a chance to answer. Damon teleports to one side and Earendil crashes face first into a wooden beam. Earendil slumps to the ground. GMRune: The ruckus continues until it seems like most of the camp is after Geint. Damon: Pathetic. I don't suppose the rest of you have delusions of grandeur. Arzel: Where's Garreth? Damon: Garreth has left. He got what he came for. Although he did leave a message for you, come to think of it. Arzel: What does he have to say? Damon: He says that if you manage to escape, he has a present for you at the Pegasus Shrine to the northeast. Garreth sounded fairly certain of your coming after him. Arzel: Oh... I will... Damon seems to smile from beneath his cowl. "Perhaps. I have no intention of letting you leave." Arzel: I don't think you have much choice in the matter... Damon: Why don't you just sit quietly while we strengthen your confines. Obviously my guards didn't think much of you. Damon kicks Earendil in the side. "Not that I think much of you either." Arzel laughs evilly, "Whatever you say *Damon*." Earendil moans a bit even in his unconscious state. Damon: I see I'll have to teach you some manners. Arzel snickers. GMRune: Damon raises a hand to cast a spell as a blurred figure drops down seemingly from the sky itself. The figure lands on Damon as a burst of white, pauses for the briefest of instants, and then disappears again along with the warlock in a sudden flash of light. Arzel: Uhh... okay... whatever... Tarrant, what can you do for Ear? Trevor's voice drifts in towards the party as a waking light sparkles down on Earendil. "Hurry and go. I'm taking care of Damon in the meantime." Trevor: I can't stall him for long though. Arzel: Thank you, Trevor. Earendil moans in silly voice, "Ooh, look at the sparklies." Tarrant: Uhh... I am not sure. Arzel: Okay everyone, let's get out of here. Earendil gets up and shakes his head, "Ooh, remind me never to rush a warlock again." Arzel: Let's go. Arzel runs out the door in the direction he thinks Geint went. Tarrant follows. Earendil rushes out of the tent. Par and ~Rein follow after everyone. Tarrant: I wonder where Kadan has gone off to...? Ayeye sighs quietly, "That's probably them." Kadan appears apprehensive as he tries to get into a nice viewing position. GMRune: Ayeye and Kadan suddenly see a familiar pink blur jet into the air with a large crowd of warlocks chasing after her. Geint swooshes by. Kadan blinks. "Ayeye! Was that...?" Jarrek: A pink bunny? Kadan: We'll explain later. Let's follow her! GMRune: As Geint charges around she slowly accumulates quite a crowd of warlocks on her heels. Kadan tries to catch up with Geint. Geint: *Shouting* I have a fan following! ^_^ Jarrek chases after Kadan. GMRune: Geint narrowly avoids being hit by a lightning bolt. Ayeye dashes after Kadan. Geint tries to block and magic attacks but also tries to keep them right behind her. Jarrek: That pink thing moves so fast! GMRune: Kadan, Ayeye, and Jarrek are just barely able to keep up behind the warlock crowd. Kadan: Don't get me started. We better help her, though! She... uh... well, some of the others are fond of her I guess. GMRune: Geint continues to get towards the edge of the camp, and she has around a couple dozen warlocks following her now. Kadan eeks as he sees the growing numbers. "I hope the others take this opportunity to get out of here!" Ayeye stops and looks toward the direction Geint came from. "That's it, it's a diversion again..." Jarrek: What? You mean we shouldn't be following her? Kadan: Well, she seems to be getting away from them alright. What do you think, Ayeye? Ayeye: Proabably not... That's where the warlocks are going. Ayeye starts going toward the place Geint just left. Kadan sticks close to Ayeye. GMRune: Ayeye, Kadan, and Jarrek manage to catch a glimpse of a flash of light coming from the near one of the tents. It looks like if you just got a little closer you would be able to see what that was. Ayeye trys to get closer and see what it is. Kadan warily approaches the mysterious tent. GMRune: Ayeye sees the other party members come charging out of the tent. Par: Ayeye! Where's Geint? Ayeye waves to them. "We've come to rescue you!" Kadan: What she said! Earendil: Forget about us, we have to find Valina. Ayeye points to the huge crowd of warlocks following Geint. "She went that way." Ayeye: Valina? She's not with you? Jarrek: Valina? Earendil: No, the warlocks have her somewhere else. I'm willing to bet that's she's with those from Banshee. Ayeye: Again?! GMRune: Though the party can't see Geint, she must've exited the camp by now, and so have a good deal of the warlocks. Not all of them have left though, and the few around you haven't lost enough of their senses to not see you as a danger. Earendil: I'll tear them limb from limb if they hurt her again! Ayeye: Where are the Banshees? Par: Hopefully Althena watches over her. Kadan tries to flash them a non-threatening grin. Earendil: I don't know, maybe with Garreth wherever he is. GMRune: The warlocks do not appear to be in the mood for smiling. GMRune: --------round 1-------- GMRune: targets: 4 Nissa Journeymen in front, 2 Nissa Sorcerors in back Ayeye laughs nervously, "Well, I guess telling you I just recaptured these rebels is out of the picture, isn't it?" GMRune: From the looks on the warlocks' face, is seems like the answer is: yes. Kadan seems strangely sensitive to the danger of the moment. "Ayeye, please be careful!" Ayeye: In that case, give up now, or we will be forced to hurt you! Earendil instinctively reaches for his sword, but grabs the air. "Shit, they took our weapons." GMRune: The warlocks don't give up. GMRune: Ayeye attacks Journeyman #1! Ayeye: It's your funeral. GMRune: attack 1: *critical* 28 damage GMRune: attack 2: *critical* 6 damage GMRune: Kadan attacks Journeyman #1! GMRune: attack 1: 33 damage GMRune: attack 2: 47 damage GMRune: Journeyman #2 attacks Ayeye! GMRune: attack 1: miss Kadan doesn't even dignify that attack with an "Oof" or a "Waa". GMRune: attack 2: miss Kadan snarls. "You get away from her!" GMRune: Journeyman #3 attacks Earendil! GMRune: The warlocks pretty much ignore Kadan. GMRune: attack 1: 81 danage GMRune: attack 2: 103 damage GMRune: Journeyman #4 attacks Ayeye! GMRune: attack 1: miss GMRune: attack 2: miss Kadan growls. "If she's hit, I'll...!" Ayeye smirks as she dances around the warlocks attacks. GMRune: Sorceror #1 casts Phantom Force! A wave of monsters sudden appear and slash at the party! GMRune: Ayeye takes 59 damage! Kadan takes 203 damage! Rein takes 90 damage! Earendil takes 138 damage and is knocked out! Arzel takes 22 damage! Geint takes 142 damage! Par takes 1 damage! Tarrant takes 1 damage! Kadan staggers a bit, then quickly gains his composure. GMRune: Sorceror #2 casts Negate Beam on Tarrant! A column of dark energy strikes him full in the chest! GMRune: 113 damage! Tarrant: Ouch. Kadan is quite scared of a power that could actually injure Tarrant. GMRune: Arzel casts White Heat! Flashes of extreme heat flare up about the warlocks! Journeymen take 162 each! Sorcerors take 144 each! GMRune: Geint dives into the fray and rakes her natural claws across the Journeymen. GMRune: 132 damage to each! GMRune: Par casts Ice Slivers on the front row! 235 damage to each Journeyman! GMRune: Journeyman #1 dies! GMRune: Tarrant casts Thorn Shower! Rains of spines and needles fall down upon his enemies! GMRune: All Journeymen take 303 damage! All Journeymen perish! All Sorcerors takes 263 damage! Sorcers become the new front row. GMRune: -------round 2------ Ayeye smiles at the Sorcerors. "I warned you, would you like to give up?" GMRune: The sorcerors look even more determined to defeat you now! GMRune: Ayeye attacks Sorceror #1! GMRune: attack 1: *critical* 28 damage GMRune: attack 2: *critical* 28 damage GMRune: Kadan attacks Sorceror #1! GMRune: attack 1: miss GMRune: attack 2: 147 damage GMRune: Sorceror #1 dies! GMRune: Arzel casts Fire Blast! He hurls a large cluster of flame at the remaining Sorceror! GMRune: 162 damage! GMRune: Geint attacks Sorceror #2! GMRune: attack 1: 88 damage GMRune: Sorceror #2 dies! GMRune: ------victory!------- GMRune: The party earns 339 XP, 464 MEXP, and 170 S. Tarrant: Yeah. Kadan does his victory jig. GMRune: The immediate area around the party is clear of Nissa warlocks. Ayeye starts looking for the Banshee warlocks. Earendil: Now, as I was saying, Valina is probabaly with Garreth and the Banshees, but where are they at? And for that matter, where is my sword? GMRune: There do not appear to be any of House Banshee in the area either. Par: Our stuff should be in one of these tents... somewhere. Arzel: Damon told me Garreth was waiting in the Pegasus shrine to the north... Ayeye: Pegasus... why there? Earendil: Then that is where I am going is everybody coming with me? ~Rein: Maybe he thinks he's being romantic or something. Arzel: I don't know... Par: Of course we're coming with you, Earendil. We just need to find our stuff first. Arzel: I'm going with you Ear...I have a score to settle with Garreth... but first I want my equipment back... The bush rustles softly in Ayeye's backpack and sneezes. Earendil pauses for a minute. "You're right Arzel and to be truthful, I feel kind of naked without my sword." GMRune: The party seed plenty of tents both large and small that appear to be empty. Geint's diversion must have called nearly all of the warlocks out of the camp. Earendil: Let's split up and search as many of the tents that we can. Tarrant splits from the groups and checks a nearby tent. Earendil does the same. Par nodd and heads off with Rein. Arzel goes to look. Earendil looks in one tent. "Hmm, a bunch of staves in here." Arzel comes out of a tent. "I found it!" Arzel: Everyone, over here. Arzel puts on his stuff and takes the rest of his stuff ~Rein hurried on over. "Good work, Arzel!" Earendil goes over to the tent that Arzel is at. GMRune: The party sees Arzel is also carrying a map with him. Arzel: And... I found this strange map... Arzel unrolls the map and looks at it. Earendil dashes in the tent and comes out with all his equipment back on. GMRune: All of the party's equipment has been found in the tent, minus the holy waters Arzel and Tarrant were carrying. GMRune: The map appears of be of some sort of building. It's a floorplan. Arzel looks for any labeling. GMRune: There is no labeling, however there is a small insignia near the lower right hand coner of the map. It's in the shape of a horse's hoofprint. Arzel: That helps... Ayeye: Pegasus? Flying horse? Kadan: What a peculiar creature. ~Rein: We saw one once. It was at Yegaar's place. Arzel: The Pegasus shrine... Earendil: Let's just head for the shrine, Valina is probably still in danger. Arzel: That's where Valina and Garreth are... Par nods. Arzel: Let's go. Jarrek: I'll come with you for the moment. This Valina is the pendant bearer, and we must not let Nissa keep her. Arzel heads off northeast. GMRune: The party heads out of the near deserted warlock camp to the thickly wooded land to the northeast. GMRune: -------end session--------
