After the battle, a young red haired man approached Ayeye, claiming to be her brother, Jarrek. Ayeye shakes her head. "No! I've never heard of you, besides, you're against Damon, and Zara..." Valina stands back... Kadan eyes Jarrek analytically, almost suspicious of his intentions. Jarrek: Ayeye... what's wrong? I don't understand... Ayeye continues shaking her head. "No! Why would Zara lie?! I don't understand... I'm, I'm so confused..." Earendil: . o O(Why is it that brothers and sisters seem to be cursed all the time?) Jarrek: Zara? Ayeye, what do you mean? Zara's been dead for centries, maybe even millennia. Rein frowns. Ayeye: No! She's not dead! She's... she's trapped! Kadan tries to put his hand on Ayeye's shoulder. "It'll be okay, Ayeye. We'll get this figured out. Just... don't get so upset. I don't want to see you whimpering like that." Jarrek shakes his head. "She is dead Ayeye. Her daughter and _our_ ancestor killed her. Don't you remember, anything at all?" Ayeye: No... I don't remember anything... Ayeye: How can she be dead? I met her... Valina: ... Geint blink blinks. Jarrek shrugs. "I don't know. But she's been gone for a long time. Umm... I know our family would like to see you, but do you think you'd like to come to my house first instead. Maybe I can answer some of your questions. It's better than just standing out here." Geint peers out of Arzel's comphy hood. Par waves to Geint. ^_^ Valina is cold and shivering. Geint waves to Par! Earendil puts his cloak around Valina. "You looked cold." Valina: Thanks... Ayeye looks nervously at Jarrek. "But... who are you, and why do they want to kill you?" Jarrek: I am one of Zara's descendants, and I no longer serve Nissa. That to them is reason enough to kill me. But I think Damon especially wanted me out of the way because I called to you. I knew you. Ayeye looks at Kadan. "I don't know... They must have had a reason to try to kill them, right?" Kadan shakes his head. "It's really none of my business, Ayeye. I can't help you in this matter." Kadan turns to Jarrek. "I just want you to know that I won't stray from your sister's side until this trip is over. I'll protect her." Valina looks up and gives a little glare at Kadan, then turns and faces Earendil. Arzel stands silently with his arms crossed. Jarrek nods gratefully to Kadan. "That is good to know. We had feared for her ever since she did not return from the battle at Shelladon those years ago." Ayeye: I... I'll go with you... Earendil: Something wrong Val? Geint shuffles back into Arzel's hood. Valina: Umm no, nothing... Rein looks around absently. Valina contines looking around at nothing. Jarrek gestures for the party to follow him. He heads deeper into the quaint village. Those with magical talent can sense that the streets of Mertyl are alive with power. The houses and walls battered by the battle begin to repair themselves. Geint starts to take a slight nap as she snuggles in Arzel's hood. Ayeye stares nervously at the regenerating buildings. Rein forces his attention back, as he senses the latent power in the area. Kadan looks around at the homes suspicously, expecting an ambush at any turn. Kadan pets the bush. The bush pants and licks Kadan's hand. GMRune: The party arrives at a modest dwelling near the center of the village. Arzel, Kadan, and Tarrant recognize the surrounding area. It is not far from a strange set of carvings. Arzel remains quiet. Jarrek opens the door to reveal a large common area that seems to take up much of the home. "Please, come in." Geint gets curious and peeks out again. Arzel patpats Geint. Earendil: Thank you for your hospitality. Valina: Thanks. Ayeye enters catiously. GMRune: There are only sparse wooden furnishing inside of Jarrek's home. A large red carpet of rough material covers most of the floor and a small cooking area is around a clay fireplace. Rein finds a spot to lean his staff in the small room. Arzel nods thanks to Jarrek and enters. Geint purrs in an odd way and rubs her head against Arzel. Valina quietly steps in, and returns Earendil's cloak. Jarrek: You're welcome. If you've been caring for my sister all this time you're more than welcome here. Earendil: You can keep it if you want, I can always get another. Kadan perceptively takes in the surroundings, seeming a bit more alert and interested than usual. GMRune: Magic doesn't seem to actively radiate from Jarrek's home, quite possibly because it was not damaged. Jerrek takes a seat on the floor and gestures for the party to make themselves comfortable. "So, Ayeye, what happened to you since you left, as far back as you can remember." Valina sits and crosses her legs. Earendil sits down next to Valina. Arzel finds the nearest wall and leans against it. Ayeye: I don't know... Not much, I guess, until I met these people... Err... why did I leave? Jarrek looks to one side. "You wanted to help Shelladon, Ayeye. Mom and Dad tried talking you out of it, but you couldn't stand to see Nissa take over the last remaining light of humanity." Earendil is taken aback. "You were trying to help Shelladon, Ayeye?" Ayeye: I couldn't? Oh... Ayeye: Why do they want to destroy humanity? Valina: ... Jarrek begins to toy with a small piece of wood. "Yes. Nissa cares little for the humans. We don't involve ourselves much either, but we don't try killing them." Ayeye: But, why do they want to destroy humanity? Geint paces out onto Arzel's shoulder. Jarrek: Ayeye, if you want me to try explaining that, you'll have to trust your friends completely. This isn't something we spread among outsiders. Do you trust them enough to learn about so many years of misery? To not spread it where it could destroy us? Valina thinks... "Misery... My life is full of it... I guess more won't hurt." Ayeye examines each of the party members for a moment, and sighs. "I do." Jarrek nods. "To answer your question I'll have to give you much of the history you have lost. You see, ages ago, while Lunar was young, a rift opened between worlds. A race calling themselves the Urdians emerged from the darkness of their dying land to see the fertile ground of Lunar. The world was young, there were few people. Surely this would be a good place to set up a new home." Earendil: Hmm, we've heard this story before. Ayeye listens intently. Rein listens intently. Jerrek: Some would say the Urdians took too much, others would say the Lunarians would not share. But one thing was clear, the people of Lunar and the Urdians could not live together. Althena's Dragonmaster and her chosen heroes chased the Urdians back towards the bleak realm they came from. The Dragonmaster stole the Serpent Staff from them and used it to seal the gap between realms. Most Urdians made it back to their old home, but not all of them." Valina: ... Rein: Apparently not. Jarrek: Those who were trapped knew they would have to forge a new way of life here. Most believed that Althena feared them since they were not her creation. Zara was one of them. She was determined to reopen the rift between worlds and allow her people to leave their dying land. Most of the Urdians agreed with her. Jarrek: Zara was a great warrior among her people, so many were willing to follow her, and in turn the Emperor she served. But her daughter, Eria, wanted peace with the humans. Lunar would eventually become the world Althena wanted, and Eria felt the Urdians would need to cooperate with them. A civil war broke out that nearly devastated all that remained of the Lunar Urdians. Jarrek: The two factions still remained after all that though. The stronger one left to gather an army of humans to them. These Urdians looked like humans, and their command of magic let them become great leaders. The survivors of Eria's followers also chose their own path and founded this village of Mertyl. Valina: ... Jarrek: Over time, the two groups interbreed with the local humans, and so from them are descended all the warlocks of House Nissa and the people of Mertyl. So you can see why the Nissans want to destroy humanity. Humanity almost certainly doomed our race to extinction. Ayeye: I don't get it... Why does re-opening the gate require destroying humanity? Ayeye: Oh... Jarrek: I can only presume Kargeth wants to reopen the gate to find out if anyone's left, or perhaps to bring Nissa himself through the gate. Rein looks at Val... Ayeye: Nissa himself? Err... what's Nissa? GMRune: Jarrek lifts his head, green eyes glinting in the light coming from the window. "Nissa is our god." Valina: ~sigh~ Earendil: God . . . ? Ayeye: A god... Jarrek: We are not of Althena's creation, Nissa is the lord of our world. Kargeth's house is named in honor of him. Ayeye shakes her head. "I bet that something Althena would not like..." Geint: ..... Jarrek nods. "True, Althena would not. I do not know if she even knows the state of the world now." Ayeye: Does anyone? I thought you said the world was locked off? Geint bites her bottom lip, restraining herself from saying anything. Jarrek shrugs. "Our world is. The Serpent Staff is the only way to open it. And we of Mertyl guarded it until the day it was stolen three months ago. I wonder if Althena knows about us though, those of us who weren't sealed away." Kadan: The Serpent Staff... you kept it here so that the seal would never be opened? Ayeye: Why? Didn't you want to save those that were sealed behind? Jarrek nodded. "That's true. We live under the tennants of peace. We have no desire to release that which we were those years ago." Ayeye: Oh... So... Zara is wrong... Jarrek: Ayeye... It took us decades to get the Serpent Staff back from Althena's followers. And she had sealed the staff's power in three pendants. We lost track of all but one of those three. We couldn't have... Kadan looks at the floor. "So if I would have destroyed the staff when I had the chance, then the seal would be closed forever." Jarrek looks to Kadan. "Perhaps. I do not know if the staff can even be destroyed." Valina: ~sigh~ What about us pendant holders? Earendil: Why did you take it back from Althena's followers? Surely it would've been safe with them. Kadan pounds his fist together. "Anything can be destroyed. I used to think once that there were bonds and forces that connect people that could never be shattered, but... well, I know better now." Jarrek turns his attention first to Earendil. "We took it back because it is our heritage. If anyone should guard it, it should be us. We used to have a temple to keep it in, but we were chased out." Earendil: Althena should have locked it up in the Goddess Tower, there, it would have been safe forever. Geint continues to look like she's restraining words. Jarrek: Perhaps you're right, sir knight. But Althena did not intervene after she saw that we were sealed. Kadan: So who is Kargeth? Is he one of you? Does he want to return to the Urdian homeworld? Valina: And... What about me? Jarrek shrugs. "Kargeth is part Urdian, like all of us. The Magic Empire is his tool. I wouldn't be surprised if the other houses were cast aside once he finds whatever he's looking for. I don't think he wants to return home to stay, just to get whatever he needs. Rein: Yeah, why did they want information that Val knew about, or whatever that thing was talking about? Jarrek: I haven't the slightly idea I'm afraid. Geint: o O ( .....dragon of Althena....... dragon of Althena......) Ayeye examines the spear still in her hands. "Zara...is evil..." Rein smiles slightly. "I had feeling you were going to say that." Jarrek: To us and Lunar, yes. To the ancient Urdians she was one of their greatest champions. I'm sorry to say that. I see you carry her spear. Ayeye: She seemed rather nice... Jarrek: Even if she was against us, she was still a mother, Ayeye. I think she would have wanted her descendants following her dream. Ayeye: But, her dream was wrong... Jarrek looks down. "Maybe. None save Althena are still alive who remember that day. The Urdians thought they were right. History was only written from Lunar's perspective." Ayeye: I suppose... Jarrek: The Urdians really had no other place to go, and Althena had probably doomed those she herded through the gate. Jarrek: I'm sorry, I don't mean to put a damper on you all. But I think... Ayeye needs to know where she's coming from. Ayeye clutches the spear tightly. "But I can't do as she wished if she wants to destroy humanity!" Earendil: If the Urdians could open a gate to Lunar, they could've open a gate to some other world that was uninhabited. Valina: ... Jarrek: I don't pretend to understand how the Serpent Staff works. But in any case the staff was taken from us early on in the conflict against Althena. I don't think they had _time_ to use it. Kadan looks up after a moment of though. "Jarrek, does this have anything to do with the four tribes?" Earendil: In any case, Lunar belongs to the humans. Anybody has a right to defend their home at all costs. Valina: Yes. Ayeye: Did they really defend it though? Or were they just greedy? Jarrek nods. "A little. The power of the four tribes was needed to drive us back through the gate. They placed a seal over the breach so that our people could not get back through without the Serpent Staff." Geint looks confused. Kadan twists his foot back and forth across the floor, seeming a bit depressed. Earendil: Legends say that Lunar was populated with the survivors of the Blue Star. If the Urdians came not long after the humans came to Lunar, they would've have been more defensive. Ayeye: Or irrationally fearful... Valina listens and begins to cry a bit. Earendil: You see how you feel when strangers come and try to take over your home. Valina: Why me? I just wanted to live a simple life on Caldor... Now this! Geint just looks down. Valina: Everything I know is gone... only to find out that it is only going to get worse. Earendil: Why any of us? But now, I intend to see the Serpant Staff destroyed at all costs. Jarrek says softly: "There was room for all, so the Urdian legends say...." Ayeye: It's a large planet, they could have shared! Arzel shifts uncomfortably. Valina: Well, now that I am a so called 'pendant holder'. I know that I am in way to deap! Why? Rein: That seems reasonable... I'd bet there's more to this story than we know. Geint walks back inside Arzel's hood feeling helpless. Jarrek nods to Rein. "There is much more, but perhaps things are a bit clearer. From your discussions I'm guessing you have some sort of vendetta against Kargeth and the Empire." Earendil: And according to the Lunarian legend, the Urdians wanted too much. Valina: Why do I have these strange dreams? Why do I go beserk? Why am I IMPORTANT!!? Geint starts mummbling things to him. Earendil: That, is an understatement. Rein coughs. Jarrek pauses and looks to Valina. "Did you say something about being a 'pendant bearer'?" Arzel pets Geint. Ayeye: The Lunarians could write any history they wanted, they won... Valina: Yes! Valina: I am one! And I have lost my pendant to that bastard Gausuton of Banshee! Earendil: And this was their land to begin with, I would tend to follow their version of history. Valina: And I dont know anything about this! Jarrek: A pity. I don't suppose you know which of three it was? Ayeye: Of course, you would, you're one of them. Earendil: And you, Ayeye, are part Lunarian. My guess would be that anybody left with Urdian blood on Lunar are mostly Lunarian now. Valina: Hope... That is all I remember.. Ayeye: Err... so... doesn't mean I have to blindly follow the history books. There is more to the world than what the winners have recorded. Valina: I had the pendant of hope... Jarrek: Hope, the pendant of the present. That means the past has already been found... Valina: And I have no idea what it means... if you can help me... please do. Valina: ... What? Earendil: Fact: Humans were already on Lunar. Fact: The Urdians came to Lunar after we were already here. Even if the humans were being selfish, though I doubt it, they still had to right to refuse, since this was their home. Valina: ~sigh~ What am I supose to do with it? Ayeye: It wasn't their home, you said yourself that they were also new here! Jarrek: It, with the Pendants of Chaos and Fortitude are needed to open the book Althena's Dragonmaster wrote the information about how to use the Serpent Staff in. Earendil: Legends say Althena created Lunar for the humans after the Blue Star was almost destroyed. Valina: And they have hope... Valina: Am I the only one who can use it? Ayeye: See! They did no better job of preserving their homeworld than the Urdians! Why should they be given special treatment? Ayeye laughs, "Because Althena said so?" Earendil: Why yes, Althena believed we needed another chance. Seems that the Urdian god didn't think so. Valina: Please Jarrek... I need to know. Ayeye: Or maybe the Urdians don't need a godly crutch as much as those from the Blue Star! Earendil: And secondly, I'll refer to the legends again. A evil god supposedly came and destroyed the Blue Star. I wouldn't half doubt if it was the Urdian god. Geint: o O ( ...Well, at least the Dragonmaster here is sticking up for Althena... That's a plus.) Jarrek pauses, thinking. "From what I know only those blessed by Althena in some way can use the pendants. You don't choose the pendant though, the pendant chooses you." Valina: ... It chose me. Ayeye: Well, using that logic, Althena may have forced the Urdian out because she was the one who destroyed their world in the first place. Earendil: And how, Althena is the goddess of creation, not destruction like the aforementioned god. Rein looks at Earendil with admiration. Valina: So in other words, I need to get my pendant back so I can make sure they can't ever open the book... Ayeye: And what proof do you have that Althena can't destroy? Or, for that matter, that Nissa does? Jerrick: Something of the sort. The book can only be opened if the pendant bearers will it. Valina: ... So they may be after me as well... explains Gausuton's actions... Earendil: I trust in Althena, she protected us and created a world for us. Geint peeks out of Arzel's hood and smiles at Earendil. Rein: Althena gives us each assistance and guidance each day. We must have faith in her benevolence. Jarrek: It would. I don't suppose the bearer of the past pendant is with you, no? Nissa must be after that person as well. Ayeye: Well I don't have to trust her! She ruined a world for us. Earendil: The Urdians came here, we did not go to their world. Rein: I don't know what happened thousands of years ago, but I know that without Althena's assistance we'd never have made it this far. Ayeye: I didn't say you did, but you did destroy the Urdians chance at a world. Earendil: They had a world and it was dying. What if they caused it to die? I wouldn't want them to do the same thing to Lunar. Ayeye: As did the Lunarians! Are you that blinded by your silly faith?! Geint sulks. Earendil: Are you calling faith in Althena silly? Kadan: Faith in anything but oneself is misplaced... Ayeye: Yes, I believe I am, but you're avoiding the question. Rein: Faith is never silly when it is in alignment with the universe as you see it. Earendil: As I said before, some god brought it upon himself to destroy the Blue Star, not us. Ayeye: And do you have any proof that the same didn't happen to the Urdians? Or, that your history is correct? What if that story is just a way to hide previous mistakes? Rein: Faith is the power to see past the confusion of everyday turmoil to the serenity of existence. That's what Master Mendren used to council his followers, anyway. Earendil: Even if what you say is true, it doesn't matter. It is up to Althena and us to with our world as we please, if we didn't want the Urdians, they should've left peacefully. Ayeye: Which tends to show that you were violent and probably did destroy your homeworld! Geint sulks some more. Jarrek: Listen, if you want to stop Kargeth, your first order of business would be to find all those pendants AND their bearers so that the warlocks can't open up the book. After all these years that book might be the only thing telling them how to use the staff. Earendil: And from the actions of the Urdians, they show themselves to be self righteous, and they think that they can come in and take what they want. Ayeye: From what the LUNARIANS history records, that is true, but it is hardly an unbiased view of the events. Rein looks calm but a bit vexed. Par: Umm... Ayeye, Earendil... I don't think either of you are going to resolve this soon... so do you think we can get back to business for the moment? Arzel just stands there quietly. Par: You just found your home again, Ayeye. Earendil calms down. "Yes, perhaps you're right. We can continue this discussion at a later time." Geint moves around a bit in Arzel's hood. Jarrek inclines his head slightly. "Anyway, what do you have in the way of plans right now? You must have some idea of what you're doing." Valina: ~sigh~ Nope. Jarrek: Then I'd suggest you find the other pendant bearers. If you are the present, then the past has already come to power and the future will awaken soon. Kargeth must not get a hold of them. Ayeye stares at the spear for a while longer and decides to keep it, and Zara, alive with her. Valina: ... And Kargeth must not get a hold of me.. . Valina: I have a feeling he is after me. Jarrek: The Banshee follow Nissa without question. It's quitely likely he'll use them to get to you. Arzel: Banshee... Geint: ...? GMRune: A young girl of about eleven years darts into the room. Like Ayeye and Jarrek, she has red hair and green eyes. She is nearly out of breath and she gasps loudly for air as she prepares herself to speak. Girl: Jarrek...! Jarrek, you've got to come quick! Nissa's attacking us again! Valina looks at the girl... Ayeye: Already?! Jarrek perks and gets to his feet. "So soon? In the same DAY?!" Valina notices the red hair and green eyes... Valina decides not to say anything yet The girl nods. "There's some funny guy with them. He looks different. Not like Damon, but different from the others." Jarrek turns back to the party. "If you'll excuse me, I have to help the defenders. You can come if you like." Valina: ... Valina: No use sitting here... Jarrek exits the house with the young girl. Ayeye steps back. "I don't know if I can..." Arzel leaves with Jarrek. Valina follows them... Rein: Well, I'm off. There'll be wounded. Rein picks up his staff and hops out of the room. Kadan gets up, head slinking toward the floor. Par and Tarrant head out after the others. Earendil: Seems that I will go as well. They may be part Urdian, but not nearly as bad as those attacking the village. Kadan is going to stick close to Ayeye, wherever she feels she needs to go. Ayeye shakes her head. "I can't fight them...yet." GMRune: The party outside hurries with Jarrek to the nearly regenerated walls of the village. A cocky young warlock is directing the Nissa troops, although he certainly isn't part of Nissa himself. It's Garreth. Valina: Oh... great, not HIM again! Ayeye takes of the Nissa symbol and stares at it. "Maybe, this could be useful later..." Rein glances at Arzel. Damon is standing next to Garreth, telling him something. Jarrek allows himself to be herded off by group of villagers, leaving the party to do as they please. The young girl remains a good distance behind the lines, watching fearfully. Arzel: ... Arzel: Garreth... Arzel tries to get a better look at Garreth and Damon Garreth chatters gleefully to Damon and then peers out over neutral ground that advancing warlocks have yet to cover. Valina goes and stands by the young girl... Par: Should we go out there and fight? Earendil: If we go and fight, can somebody heal me first? Arzel: I don't have the strength to beat Garreth... Garreth looks towards the town and seems to notice you guys standing out there. He waves and throws you a confident smirk. Arzel grimaces and makes a rude jesture toward Garreth. Geint walks out onto Arzel's shoulder. Geint tries to look confident and important on Arzel's shoulder. Garreth sticks his tongue back out at Arzel and makes a face. GMRune: Rein casts Recovery Litany on Earendil! Earendil gains 120 hp! Earendil: Thank you, Rein. Rein: Yup. Garreth yells something to a group of Nissa warlocks and they make a charge towards the party! Arzel ignores Garreth's facemaking. Geint is poised. Arzel straps his claws on. Geint does the same. ;b GMRune: A unit of seven warlocks make it around the villagers to attack. GMRune: ------round 1-------- Valina is ready... Geint hops off Arzel.
