GMRune: Par scrambles over behind Kadan and Rein. Rein: whether he likes it or not Arzel looks at Par "We will? :)" Arzel: Ack! I guess I will to! GMRune: Is the rest of the party (barring Valina) going to join Kadan? Earendil: Oh well, might as well join the group. Arzel scrambles over to fight with the big Lumox. GMRune: Geint and Tarrant grumble but agree. Earendil walks to where Kadan is. Rein holds up his staff firmly. GMRune: Just as you join up with Kadan, you see Valina and a cloaked figure burst through the door of the warlock manor! Arzel grips his claws tightly. Kadan digs his feet into the ground and holds his axe vertically, far in front of his body. Earendil: Huh? Look over there! GMRune: Figure: Well! It looks like they *will* need our help! Valina: ... of course. Shall we? Arzel looks over in surprise at Valina and the figure. GMRune: Figure: Ha! Of course! Rein: Is that Valina? GMRune: <> Arzel looks to Rein "Yup." GMRune: Shea's gaze passes over the group and seems to stop at Rein. GMRune: Shea: I just gotta go. GMRune: Shea's throws the cloak back, revealing a pair of furred black wings. Kadan looks at the figure apprehensively. GMRune: Shea dashes off, and leaps into the air. Valina: umm... thanks for geting me out of that hell hole! Rein swallows... Earendil: Wings? GMRune: Shea: You're welcome! GMRune: Shea's form grows distant as the figure flies away. Arzel looks at Rein. Valina yells "Will I see you again?" Arzel looks back at where the figure left to. Kadan looks at Valina. "So... you're the lass that disappeared at the ruins. Where have you been, may I ask?" Arzel: Hmm, well now we have Valina back I suggest we get out of here before anymore smegs show up. GMRune: Par: But the book we need! Arzel: Oh, ya we need the book Arzel: Forgot about that. The rebels? magic hunters? Arzel wonders why Valina forgot about the book. Valina: Hold on... Valina's mind is a bit messy since the kidnapping. Valina looks at rein. Valina: You know... Rein, you look a lot like Shea. Rein: Ahh... Rein: I don't know.. Kadan: Hehe. Rein, you better stick up for yourself, kid. She's saying you look like a girl! Rein looks a little embarrassed. Valina: But.. you do. where are you from? Valina has a headache... Arzel looks at Valina. "Do you remember about THE book?" Rein: I have spent most of my life training with my master Mendren in the East Earendil: I don't think we should press Valina too hard, she might be suffering from the after effects of a warlock interrogation. Valina: The book... the book... yea, I remember now. It was like.. in a dream. Valina: And the goddess... Valina has a big headache. Kadan: Poor girl... but we cannot help her at the risk of further Banshee detection. We should get moving again. Valina: ... Valina: Let's go. Valina: My pendant.. Arzel agrees with Kadan *for once*. Valina: That's right.. we need to get my pendant. Valina takes out the documents to show everyone. Earendil: What are these? Valina: I got them from the inside the manor GMRune: Par leans over to look at the documents. GMRune: He takes one of them from Valina and wide-eyed begins reading it. Earendil: Par, what is it? Valina sits.. Kadan looks around discreetly, not interested in the documents. Arzel looks at Par. Arzel looks at Kadan. GMRune: Par: I don't believe this! Emperor Kargeth has ordered House Banshee to kill Lady Mileria of House Magus! Valina: We.. need to .. go to... GMRune: Par: The warlocks are actually moving against each other! Arzel mumbles something about Kadan the Lumox. Earendil: A civil war could be to our advantage. Arzel smiles "Evil turns in apon itself." Kadan's interest returns. "Ha! It was to be expected. Those magic-users are so hopelessly corrupted they descend and feed on each other like the jackals they are. GMRune: Par: But Lady Mileria... Valina: go... to.. Killith... Earendil: Valina, are you ok? Arzel repeats what he said to himself again. Kadan looks at Valina strangely. "I most certainly will not!" Valina: Just a bit woozie... don't know why... go to Killith.. get pendant... Rein looks around thoroughly confused. GMRune: Par: (dazed) No, we've got to keep looking for the book. It's the only way... Kadan: Listen, we can't stay here with Valina any longer. We need to get moving right now. Either leave her behind or somebody hog-tie her and drag her along! GMRune: Par: Right. Valina, do you remember *anything* about where the book might have been taken? Valina: The mare... Valina gets up and walks away from the house. Each step away makes her feel better. Arzel: *mumbled* Why don't we hog-tie Kadan instead? Valina: The mare... remember what she said. Valina: ...in my dream... Valina: Or was it a dream? Valina is walking away... feeling more enlightened with each step. GMRune: Par: Let's search this manor. There *must* a way to find that book! Kadan pounds his fist into his palm. "I'm up for that!" Valina is feeling better. Arzel: Anything is better than hanging around here for more warlocks to arrive! Valina: Ahh the mare ... the book... the pendant Valina: We need that book Kadan furtively slinks along the wall to the manor. "Now, be quiet. I need to scope this place out." Valina: I'm going with you. I came from there.. Valina follows Kadan. Kadan tries to find any windows or portals. GMRune: Par: Looks around. I hope there aren't any more guard smegs around here... Earendil goes with them. Valina: Kadan... try the door. Arzel decides to follow Kadan. GMRune: There are several windows along the walls. Kadan glares at Valina. "We can't use the door! We need to do this right. Now shut up and follow." Kadan peeks in through a window to identify any inhabitants. Valina: Umm ok. GMRune: There doesn't seem to be anybody inside. Kadan: Ok... no visible guards, but just in case, we need to sneak around to the south side, slip in through a window, then make it across the interior while staying in the shadows. We need to do it now before the sun moves. Kadan ducks down and dashes, taking everyone else for granted. Valina: Whatever works GMRune: Par: Um, I don't think... Oh darn it! There he goes again! Rein scrambles after him. Arzel: Another brilliant plan by Kadan. GMRune: Par chases after Kadan. Earendil: Come on, let's all play follow the leader. Valina: What now? Arzel follows slowly, but quickly enough to keep up. Valina sneaks next to Rein. Kadan backs up against a wall, gives a paranoid look around, then smashes a large window with his elbow. "Move!" GMRune: Kadan is blown back from the window by a magic barrier! GMRune: Par: I tried to tell you... Arzel: Maybe the door might be a better plan, people got out through there. Kadan rubs his head as he regains his posture. "Dagnabbit! Tricks..." Valina: ... Earendil walks back to the door. "Might as well go in this way." Valina: Somehow I have a feeling that this is getting us nowhere. Arzel: Finally a good plan! GMRune: Par: Yeah, Valina and her friend got out through the door easily enough. Arzel: Not like one of the Lumox's! Kadan gets a thwarted look on his face. "Oh, alright! We'll use the stupid door..." Valina: ... GMRune: The party enters the manor through the rear door. Valina: Shall we? Earendil grasps the door handle. Rein: Umm.. sorry, but there might be a reason the door is free but not the window. Valina walks through the door. Valina: Yeah, because I opened it to get out here. GMRune: You all see a large hall in front of you and a lavishly-decorated staircase to your right. Rein: Well, okay.. Earendil: Now, I wonder if our hosts are going to send us a welcoming party? Valina: I never stopped on the second floor. Kadan: Sure, Earendil. Just grasp the handle and get your fingerprints all over it! Valina: I think we should head there first. Earendil: I know I don't have a record, do you Kadan? Arzel: Oh, I bet the Lumox does. Kadan grumbles. GMRune: Par glances back and forth nervously. Arzel smiles, finding a better word to describe Kadan. Valina approches the stairs. "I want to see what is up there." Rein does too, and approaches with Val. Arzel looks curiously around Â_Â Valina: Thank you.. GMRune: Par: Yeah, let's start searching this place. I don't want to be here very long! Arzel walks over to Val. Kadan takes a careful inspection of the surroundings, looking for any interesting objects. Earendil: Don't count me out, let's head up GMRune: The first floor has some painting of warlocks, but nothing really interesting. Arzel looks at Kadan "You couldn't find any secret doors if one bopped you in the nose." Valina heads up the stairs. GMRune: Par follows her. Arzel goes up. Kadan: Arzel, you should be the one worrying about being bopped on the nose. Rein trots up. GMRune: Par called out. "C'mon! Let's get going!" Earendil trudges up the stairs Rein: Did anyone need any healing? Valina: I'm fine... thanks . Arzel sticks his tongue out at Kadan, but brings it back quickly thinking the Lumox might think it was food. Arzel: I'm fine Rein, I can heal myself if I need it. Kadan: And what is this legendary beast, Lumox, you keep mentioning, Arzel? Earendil: Arzel, although picking on Kadan is extremely funny, perhaps you should hold off until we get what we need from the house. GMRune: Geint flaps around and settles herself on Earendil's shoulder. GMRune: Par: You guys alive down there? GMRune: Tarrant and Ayeye head up the stairs, the bush panting all the way. Arzel looks at Earendil "Fine I'll stop." Arzel: But it's fun. GMRune: The party heads up the stairs to the second floor. Earendil: True. Arzel: You should try! Valina: Let's try and stay together here... I don't want to run into anymore smegs alone.. Earendil: In spooky old manors, its not smegs that I'm worried about. Arzel looks back at Kadan "A Lumox is a creature with no brain and all brawn, I thought it described you quite well." GMRune: Par: Well, this place was, is?, inhabited. GMRune: Par: I can't figure out why there appear to be no warlocks here. There's not much dust in this place. Valina: I searched upstairs on my way out. I didn't find the book. Valina looks at the second floor. GMRune: The second floor has a long hallway with one door on each side. Rein wonders if this party could ever be quiet enought to actaully evade any inhabitants. :) Kadan takes careful survey of the structures. Valina: From what Shea told me, they are all gone. However I dont want to be here when they return. So let's continue. Arzel looks at Rein "Not if I'm within 100 meters of Kadan." Valina approches the door on the left. GMRune: Par: Gone? I don't like the sound of that. Arzel: To house Magus most likely GMRune: It's a set of golden double doors. GMRune: Par shudders. Earendil: Hope that they didn't leave *anything* behind. Valina: Par, it is better than them being here now... Kadan glares at Arzel. "Well, at least I make some attempt at stealth instead of just talking all the time." GMRune: Par: Yeah, but... Well, I guess you're right. Valina begins to open the door Earendil: Kadan, after breaking the window, anybody that is here knows we're here. GMRune: Valina opens the door to reveals a long dining hall. GMRune: Many chairs line each side of an oblong table and crystal chandeliers dangle from the ceiling. Valina: Shall we? Valina enters the dining hall. Rein does likewise. GMRune: Par follows them in. GMRune: You all see lots of small cabinets lining the walls. Earendil proceeds into the hall. Arzel walks over to Earendil "I like you, you're okay!" Earendil: Well, at least House Banshee has good taste. Valina: Humm... a bit to fine for my blood... Rein looks around in wonder. Rein: Do they look out of place? GMRune: They look perfectly fine. Valina: Well, let's look in the cabinets...but if you hear an alarm.. run, or there will be smegs here in no time! GMRune: Par taps his staff tentaviely against a cabinet. Kadan: We shall search for information. Smegs can be dealt with. Valina peers into the cabinets GMRune: Valina's cabinet holds a lot of silverware and china. Valina: hmm... Rein checks one too. GMRune: Par opens another cabinet and find a mess load of porcelain bowls. Arzel also checks one. Valina closes the cabinet and proceds onward. GMRune: Rein finds a set of scented candles. Rein: Neat! GMRune: Arzel finds the cloth napkins. Arzel: Take some of thoes! Arzel: I mean not the cloth napkins, the candles. GMRune: Valina's next cabinet is empty. Earendil: Are we a bunch of petty theives? Rein looks unsure about that. Valina: This house stole from me, but they can't give back what they took! Arzel checks the empty cabinet for secret pannels Rein continues checking cabinets. Arzel: Fine don't take the candles! Earendil: I hope we are because this is some exquisite silverware. Arzel checks the empty cabinet for secret panels. GMRune: Arzel doesn't find any secret panels. Valina continues checking the cabinets. Arzel: :( Arzel: Well, had to look! GMRune: Valina find another set of documents in the next cabinet. Valina reads the documents. Earendil: More orders for House Banshee? --> Valina As you skim over the documents, you see a message of congratulations for House Banshee for obtaining the book. Valina: ... Banshee is being congratulated for obtaining the book... Arzel: Well let's take it back! --> Valina They are to take the book to Killith. But someone scratched out that order. Rein: I was still looking... --> Valina A line is slashed through it. Kadan: Par, these things we've seen on this trip seem to keep getting more important. *Valina* But I read right through it... --> Valina You can still read it. Someone just drew a line through that part of the documents. GMRune: Par: I think we're getting mixed up in something a lot bigger than the resistance originally thought. Arzel: <> Valina: It looks like they took it to Killith... but the order has a line slashed through it... trying to hide it Valina: ha Kadan: Or because it was rescinded... GMRune: Par: By Althena! I was just supposed to get a simple book and bring it back to Shelladon! Kadan chuckles. "Well, Par. Trying to collapse the Magic Empire isn't exactly a small bite to chew either." Earendil: Hah! Nothing is ever simple anymore. Valina: ... I don't think it is going to be that simple anymore. Arzel: The world is never simple and it never will be! Rein's eyes shine excitedly. GMRune: Par: True. Earendil: I hope that isn't a burial urn. Rein: Ok Valina: If so ... lets burn this place... GMRune: Par: Not until we're done searching! GMRune: Par: Perhaps the book is in the warlocks' private quarters! Valina: Ok... Valina takes the wierd urn. Rein: That would make the most sense Kadan: We must not assume this place is entirely abandoned. --> Valina there seems to be some sort of dust in the urn. Arzel: I don't think the Book will be here. Rein remembers to look sneaky :) Earendil: There are probably more magic traps and barriers like the ones on the windows. Valina: I want to if there are some worlocks in here... the better they burn! GMRune: Par looks at Valina strangely. Arzel sighs. Valina: It was this house that decided to kill my family back on Caldor... Kadan stops and tries not to look at Valina. GMRune: Par: Banshee is in charge of *all* the warlock assassinations. They are the only ones who actually police the other warlocks. Valina has fire in her eyes... that turns to tears. GMRune: Par: We'd better go. Take that urn if you want. But I don't know how much time we have. GMRune: Par leaves the dining room. Earendil: I know how she feels, I have a grudge against a house but not Banshee. Valina: I'm no warlock... Valina takes the urn. Valina quietly steps out the door. GMRune: The group goes back into the hallway. GMRune: There is still a single unopened door across from the dining hall. Earendil: Kadan, this would be a perfect time to practice your door-opening skills Rein: I'll do it Rein: or maybe not... Kadan smirks, then opens the door quietly. GMRune: You all see what appears to be an enormous kitchen in front of you. GMRune: A couple of smegs are dozing on the floor. Valina doesn't pay attention... Rein puts his arm across his face, shielding his nose. GMRune: One of the smegs whuffles, snorts, and rolls over. Kadan: Don't hate them. They're just slaves. GMRune: Par: Yeah, more warlock creations. Valina: ... Rein: Are there any other doors leading out of the kitchen? Kadan tries to find a secret passage leading to the study. GMRune: Across and behind the smegs appear to be another set of doors. Arzel coughs. GMRune: Par: McDocmar...? Rein wonders about our choice of conference areas. GMRune: Par: Yeah, we'd better take this elsewhere before we wake the smegs. GMRune: A smeg yawns and blinks its beady little eyes as if to focus them. Earendil: Anyone here know a sleeping spell? Valina: A warlord... who taught commoners how to stand up for them selves! Rein nudges Val and points at the smeg. GMRune: The smeg blinks and seems to be trying to focus in on the party. Earendil: *whispering* Well its only two smegs, we can take them without any problems. Valina whispers "Then he murdered my family... " GMRune: The smeg yawns and nudges its companion awake. GMRune: The second smeg yawns and takes a deep whiff of the air around it. Rein: Maybe they're friendly when they first wake up? Rein: But probably not... GMRune: The first smeg starts snorts at the party and lumbers to its feet. GMRune: The second likewise gets up. Valina: Nothing is friendly under this roof. GMRune: The two smegs amble towards the party. Rein stumbles back, fumbling with his staff. Kadan stands ready. Arzel grips his claws ready to attack. "Well, it's not like they would put it in the larder anyway..." Kadan wonders what's wrong with Valina. GMRune: Par: Perhaps the book will be further upstairs. Rein is ready to go. GMRune: The party heads back towards the stairwell. Valina: I came from up there... there is nothing there but smeg bodies! GMRune: Third floor. GMRune: Par: Are you sure you might not have missed something? Earendil: Bodies, why would they have a bunch of bodies up there? Valina: Shea and I ran into a little smeg problem..so we had to dispose of it. GMRune: Par grimaces. Earendil: Say no more GMRune: Par: Shall we search the third floor? Valina: You can if you want... I've been up there. GMRune: Par: Well, what about the fourth. GMRune: Par: There must be someplace they could have put the book! Valina: Guest bedrooms... GMRune: Par: Fourth floor? Valina: Yea... Rein sets off eagerly. GMRune: The party heads up to the fourth floor. Valina: Let's go to four. Valina: First room on the left... I think. GMRune: You see a long passeway with four doors on either side. One of the doors has been smashed down. Valina goes in through the smashed door. GMRune: The party enters a lavishly decorated bedroom. Tapestries hang from the walls, and the bed is *extremely* plush. Rein follows. GMRune: There's a lot of junk in here that's been thrown around. Valina: This I think is Gausuton's little room. Earendil: Hmmm, what have we here. GMRune: Drawers are open and a nightshirt is hanging off of a stuffed smeg head on the wall. Valina: What? Valina: A book? Rein looks into the head's mouth. GMRune: Nothing in there. Valina: Heh.. GMRune: Par looks at the urn Valina is carrying. Valina looks under the bed. GMRune: As Valina leans over to look under the bed, she tips the urn she's carrying over and sparkling dust flies around the room. GMRune: Par sneezes. Valina: Sorry --> Valina The dust drifts under the bed and seem to settle in midair around something. Valina investigates further. GMRune: Par: S'okay. --> Valina it seems to be sticking to an object in a rectangular shape. Earendil: I hope that dust doesn't have any magical side effects. GMRune: Par sneezes. GMRune: Par: Me too. Kadan makes a grimace and avoids the dust. Valina sees an object. Arzel covers his face with a part of his cloak. Valina takes the object from under the bed. GMRune: Par: aaaAAAAhhhh ahCHOOO! Valina: Sorry. GMRune: Valina is holding an invisible dust-covered object in the rough shape of a rectangle. --> Valina It feels like a BOOK! Earendil: Now, that is the most interesting thing that we have found in this entire house. Valina: ... nice spell... I think I found it! GMRune: Par: Ahh... CHOO! GMRune: Par sneezes the dust off of the object. Valina takes more dust and sprinkles it on the 'object' GMRune: Slowly the image of a book fades into view. GMRune: It is THE book. Valina: We can't open it without the pendant. But I think this invisible thing is the book! Earendil: At last! Kadan is disturbed by the faded image. "Don't trust anything..." GMRune: Par: Oh gud. We fownd id. GMRune: Par sneezes again. Valina: Good... let's get outta here! And take this place down as we go! GMRune: The book is definately visible now, the spell around it negated. Earendil: I agree with Valina, I think a pile of ashes would be a nice surprise for the warlocks when they return Valina: Well, we got what we came for .. let's go .. GMRune: Par: Yeah... Valina: Let's start a fire! Rein: I don't think burning down the house accomplishes anything. GMRune: Par: Well, it probably *would* annoy them. Rein: It only hurts our chances of getting away safely Valina: Hey. they burnt my WHOLE village! GMRune: Par: But we'd better hurry and just get out of here. Let's not waste time with this! Either let's burn it and get it over with, or let's go! Rein looks down, his red hair swinging in front of his eyes. Earendil: Who cares, I'd like to see something of the warlocks destroyed for a change. Kadan hacks up some paneling to amuse Valina. Valina: Thanks. GMRune: Par toys with his staff. Valina heads out the door (with the book in her hand) GMRune: Par heads out after Valina. Valina: Are you comming? GMRune: <> Rein follows. Arzel leaves. Earendil heads for the door and leaves. Rein: How do we know there aren't innocent people somewhere in the house? Valina: <> GMRune: The party starts heading back down to the second floor. GMRune: The party heads back down the stairs to the first floor. Earendil: Alright, let's get out of this place. Rein glances sideways at Valina. Valina walks out . GMRune: You all emerge back into the great hall in which you started in. Valina has a tear in her eye. GMRune: You go back out through the back door. Valina: ... GMRune: As the group of you make haste away from the manor, you are suddenly confronted by a brillant flash of light! Rein looks at Valina, with an indeterminate look on his face. GMRune: And a dark-robed mage stands before you... GMRune: He seems badly injured. Valina: ...Who are you? Earendil: What happened to you? Arzel: Let someone intelligent talk, NOT Kadan GMRune: Mage wheezes. "Rebel scum!" Kadan seems apprehensive. Valina: warlock ...scum GMRune: Mage: Raid our home why we're away, will you? Earendil suddenly realizes something, "Run!!!" Valina: I don't like that at .. all.. the book... GMRune: Par: Don't let him get the book, Valina! Valina: I don't intend to. GMRune: Kadan casts "Run away!" GMRune: And the party flees, even the unconscious people, just as the warlock explodes into a ball of fiery light! Valina: aghhhhh GMRune: ----victory... sort of... well, you lived...----- Kadan silently praises his tactical abilities that are so excellent, he can levitate and tow dead people as he runs like hell. GMRune knows Kadan loves his run away spell. GMRune: You all pant and run away as the flames die off. Valina: This isn't going to be easy from now on... GMRune: ------end session----
