In the morning, the sound of heavy carriages running over the cobblestone paths wakes you. Valina is still asleep this morning. Kadan groggily (and noisily) rises, stretching his limbs and scratching his head. Par gets up from his bed on Earendil's couch with a hearty yawn. The young elf looks pretty content this morning. Tarrant wakes up, but is still in sort of a sleep trance. Earendil walks down the stairs from his room upstairs looking sort of haggard. ~Geint's nose twitches from her bed on a sofa pillow. She remains soundly asleep. Par: Didn't have a good sleep, Ear? Earendil mumbles something about bad dreams. Par nods with understanding. Kadan blinks a few times, trying to re-adjust to the situation and to ensure that everyone is present. Rein gets up off the kitchen table and scratches his head (sleeping spots were tight and Rein wasn't at the top of the list for beds) Kadan: Geez... with all that we keep getting thrown into, rummaging through the rubble of Lentol doesn't sound so bad anymore. Ayeye scans the room. "Do we have to get up so early?" Par: Lentol had its moments. Par: We should try deciding what we're going to do today. Arzel mumbles something about carriages and cobblestone. Kadan blushes a bit as he remembers the whole 'capturing the party' adventure. Earendil looks around to see if Elanor had any coffee in the house. Kadan: How safe is it to remain here? Should we not endeavor to seek flight from this city as soon as possible? GMRune: Earendil finds some Espresso mix in the kitchen cabinets. Earendil: Espresso anybody? Tarrant: No thanks... That stuff rots your insides Ayeye: What were your plans? We sort of... well... don't know what to do anymore... Par: Maybe if you tell us what happened, Ayeye. We never did find out how you guys got to Shelladon. Arzel: Eww... foul black liquid... no thanks, Ear. Earendil says to the others while making the coffee, "First, we have to find somebody to help Val, then we go to Caldor Isle." Par will take a cup from Earendil, just to be polite. :) Ayeye smiles weakly. "We're not exactly sure... We lost, and woke up here..." Earendil finishes up the espresso and hands a cup to Par. "Be careful, I make mine extra strong." Par: Oh... I'm surprised Yegaar didn't kill you. Par: Thanks, Earendil. Ayeye: Yeah, we shouldn't be here... We seem to have lost a week also. Par inhales deeply of the coffee, the smell alone can wake some people up! Par: Yegaar got want he wanted then? Ayeye lowers her eyes. "Unfortunately...we failed...." Earendil takes a seat. "Perhaps you guys should tell us everything that happened to you." Par nods and sits down on the couch again. Ayeye shrugs. "He won, we lost. Not much else to say." Earendil: Yes, but what does his winning mean? Kadan sits cross-legged and pays earnest attention to Ayeye. Rein: Well, he got whatever power it was that he was searching for. Ayeye searches through her backpack and pulls out Yegaar's Incantation. "We did find this, if it helps." Tarrant: Let me have another look at that Ayeye... Ayeye gives the incantation to Tarrant. Par: Read it, Tarrant, so we can hear it. Tarrant reads out loud. GMRune: The incantion is as follows: Feather of the pegasus, heart from the song, Stars from the magic, hope carried long, Danger from the heroes, tears of the woodfolk, Essence of the bone, sulfur from the yolk. Waning of the day, hold the skull up high, Darkness comes the night, death begins to fly. Reach the hand to necros, soul from hell do flitch, Embrace the wither in the heart, and arise the mighty lyche! Earendil: What is a lyche? Ayeye: Funny, I don't think we brought him much danger, unless it meant danger to us... Par: Maybe the danger was something other than the obvious. Rein: Hmm... I don't even have a guess what it might be.... Ayeye frowns. "Maybe, he seemed to get what he wanted..." Par: I forget, what was that anyway? Ayeye: Umm...Tarrant's spell. Earendil: And just how powerful is this spell? Kadan: Ech... magic's magic. Ayeye turns to Kadan. "We could really have used you... maybe... maybe we wouldn't have lost everything then..." Rein: I knew we shouldn't have split up... but no... Earendil: Kadan, I may not be an expert in magic, but there are *very* powerful spells out there. Rein bitches to himself briefly, then snaps out of it. Tarrant: It is not so much the spell itself that is the problem, it is what the spell can acomplish.. Par: So Yegaar's presumable gotten whatever he wanted and turned into a lyche. Is that it? Tarrant: I guess you could say that... Rein: Seems that way... unless there was anything else listed in that incantation which he's still missing Earendil: Ahem, and what can a lyche do? Ayeye looks slightly embarressed. "Probably... we... we wouldn't know for sure..." Par: A lyche is an undead wizard, Ear. Rein: It's probly real bad, though. Rein nods his head vigorously. Ayeye: Now we have both live and dead warlocks to deal with. Rein: I still think we should notify the houses around here about what Yegaar's doing. It seems like they'd want to stop whatever it is he's planning too. Par shakes his head. "Great, and we still have Valina to fix and a set of Dragon Wings to get Earendil. So do you want to take care of Yegaar first or go to Caldor? After we help Valina of course." Earendil: And just who would we notify? The entire city is controlled by the warlocks. Par: You have a good idea, Rein. But I don't think Protectoriate is interested in seeing me. Ayeye: You really want to talk to the warlocks? We are probably on they're most wanted by now. Kadan shakes his head. "Yegaar isn't my responsibility. I'm more interested in doing what it takes to make Earendil a Dragon... thingy or whatever it is." Rein: Well, we could find someone else to carry the message. Earendil: The way I see it, maybe Yegaar will distract the warlocks for a while. Par: Maybe. Hopefully he doesn't get out of control though. Par: I hope Vane's all right. Tarrant: Yegaar's nature is out of control. Arzel: Me too Par... Par: Out of control as in the warlocks can't handle him, Tarrant. Tarrant: As in we can't handle it... Par: At least you lived, Tarrant. Yegaar didn't kill you. Ayeye shakes her head. "Tarrant's right, we can't handle him. He barely had to move to...stop us." Rein: So what are WE supposed to do then, if the whole Empire can't handle him? Earendil: All the same, I say we help Val and head for Caldor first. When I get the white dragon wings, we can quickly teleport back to Vane. Kadan stands up. "If you people want to go off to hunt some single renegade warlock, that's your business. I think it's irresponsible when we have more at stake here." Ayeye: And what might that be? Earendil: Rein has a point. Tarrant: That seems to be our only sensiable course of action... Par: Okay, we'll head to Caldor first. So how are we going to help Valina? Rein: Hmm... I haven't a clue what the problem is... Kadan looks at Rein, feigning concern. "Rein, can't you diagnose her, if not help her? It seems she probably just has a concussion." Rein: Maybe we could take her to a temple here, and see if the priests can help her. Most of them have more experience than me. Rein: If it were a simple injury, I would think my healing magics would have their usual effect, though. Kadan: This isn't exactly the most hospitable city, now. I'd much rather take my chances with Erde than Protectoriate. Rein: True, but it might be dangerous to wait any longer to help her. Rein looks frustrated. Tarrant: We must take action soon, cause his power grows stronger by the minute... Earendil: Rein, could you and somebody else go the temple. I would go with you, but my face is too well known here. Arzel: I'll go with Rein... Ayeye: I'll go. Par: Bring a priest if you can, just be careful not to draw attention to yourselves. Kadan looks down at Valina's petite form. "Such a small girl... I don't know why she dragged herself along with us for so long." Rein: I don't think anyone should leave the group that doesn't have to. Rein: We'll just try to stay low and keep out of trouble... having more people around wont make that easier GMRune: Rein, Arzel, and Ayeye exit Earendil's house. Then they realize that they have absolutely no idea how to get to the temple. Rein: I'm telling you guys, I really think you should go to Caldor. Rein: I don't think there's anything to be accomplished here, and they'll really need you along. Ayeye grabs Rein's arm, "I think I saw a temple type building over here." Rein looks at Ayeye. "They're going to a dragon cave, for Althena's sake!" Ayeye: Good for them, now let's get going, we have a life to save. Rein: Hmm... Ayeye drags Rein off in a random direction. Rein: Bwahhh! Rein: Shouldn't we bring Val at least? GMRune: Arzel, Ayeye, and Rein wander off towards Ayeye's supposed temple. Ayeye: And how would we carry her? GMRune: Ayeye, Rein, and Arzel continue along Ayeye's course through the city of Shelladon. The atmosphere of the morning here is much freshly and lively than when you were in Killith. The streets fill slowly with townspeople. Though oppressed, they live their lives much as they always have. Ayeye stops, absentmindedly twirls her hair, and drags Rein off in another direction. "I think it was this way." Rein: Okay, when we get there, let me do the talking... bwahhh! Rein: What are you doing, Ayeye--hey, leggo the shirt, eh? ~Arzel gets ditched by Ayeye and wanders back to Earendil's house. Ayeye: I know it was over here somewhere! Ayeye drags Rein off in another direction. Ayeye halts and examines the area. "I don't remember this place..." Ayeye shrugs and drags Rein around some more. Rein: Hmmm... GMRune: The two of you finally see the tip of a golden building coming into view. It's to the south, near the gates of Shelladon. Ayeye: See! I knew it was around here somewhere. Rein: There we are... Ayeye drags Rein to the golden building. Rein: Okay, as I was saying, they'll know I'm a disciple of Althena, and so I should be able to convince someone to... blah blah blah... GMRune: As you near you can see the golden building as been thoroughly looted of much of its glory. The expensive art used to honor the goddess has been removed. Rein frowns speculatively. Ayeye: Wow! A golden building! The priests must be rich! Rein: I wonder what's happened here... Ayeye: Looks like someone wanted their investment back. GMRune: The doors to the shrine are still open, but no one appears to be worshiping inside. Rein walks inside the building. Ayeye follows Rein in. Rein: This is MOST disturbing... GMRune: Inside the wooden pews are badly in need of varnish. Some of the benches are even broken and you could have sworn that brown stain on the floor was not paint. There is a rickety door behind the altar. Ayeye: Hello? Anyone here? Rein: Hello!?! Is anyone here? GMRune: The door opens with a groan and a young man in robes comes out. Priest: Excuse me, but is there something you want? Ayeye: We have a sick friend... Ayeye: We were hoping you could help her. Rein: Ummm... are you the head priest of Althena here? Rein nudges Ayeye. The priest shakes his head. "Bishop Layne's being detained by Lord Kahell. I am Deacon Ellis." Rein bows and bit and presents himself. "I am Rein, student of Master Mendren." Rein waits for a sign of recognition Ayeye smiles. "I am called Ayeye, I don't suppose you could help us?" Ellis nods to Rein. "Yeah, I have heard of Master Mendren. It's a pleasure to meet a student of his. You must be gifted." Ellis turns to Ayeye. "I don't know if I can, but I can always try. Where is the sick person?" Rein shakes his head. "Sorry to be so forward, Deacon, but I come with a matter of extreme urgency." Rein: One of my companions has fallen ill, and despite my best efforts, I am unable to help her. Ayeye points back out the door and frowns. "Somewhere out there... I don't remember the way back..." Ellis scratches his head. "Don't remember...?" Ellis: Well, do you have an idea of what part of town you were in? Rein: I'm sure we can find it. If you'd just come with us, Sir Deacon... Ayeye: Well, we turned right, then left, then left again, then right three times, I think... Ellis: Certainly. There is little enough for me to do around here anyway since the warlocks took Layne away. Rein nods. "Speaking of which, Deacon, the warlocks might not really want to know about our presence here... it's probably not worth their time. " Ellis nods. "Of course. I won't say anything." Rein nods and starts back. Ellis exits the temple with Rein and Ayeye. "Now if you just remember roughly where in town you came from..." Rein: Well... it was over that-away. Ayeye looks around confusedly. "I think it might have been over there." Ellis: Were you staying at a friend's place? I've never seen you here before. Ayeye: Yes, we were staying at the Dragonmaster's house. Ellis raises an eyebrow. "Dragonmaster? I hadn't known the dragons had chosen one. It's about time, praise Althena." Ayeye: I thought everyone knew. All of the warlocks are looking for him... Ellis: They are probably keeping the information from the people, to keep them from hope. Ellis: If this Dragonmaster is from Shelladon, what is his name? Rein: Is that the same reason the temple is in its... *state*? Ayeye looks around the area and turns off toward the suspected location of Valina. "Earendil...something..." Ellis nods to Rein. Ellis: Earendil? The son of Tuor? I might be able to return you to his house then. I've seen his father on several occasions. Ayeye: Son of Tuor? Maybe, I guess you lead the way then. Ellis leads Ayeye and Rein back to Earendil's house. GMRune: Meanwhile... Par: Anyway, how long shall we risk staying around here? Elanor's probably going to tell someone about us soon if she hasn't already. Tarrant: I agree we have to do something... Earendil: I know we have to be quick, but I want . . . need to make sure that Val is ok. Tarrant: She'll be fine... Earendil: You don't understand, I HAVE to be sure. Par: They'll bring back someone who can help, Ear. I'm fairly sure. But I'm worried we might get attacked before they come back. It's past sunrise now. Tarrant: You can never be completly sure about anything. ~Arzel meanders back into the house. Earendil mutters under his breath, "You don't understand." Tarrant: I don't think you understand the situation... Kadan: Are we sure that was Elanor? Or rather, the young lady that's been a thorn in our sides? She spoke as if she'd been in this city for quite some time. Earendil: I understand the situation very well, but I could care less about the warlocks or about Yegaar right now. The only thing on my mind is making sure Valina is well. Par: Pffft. Do you think the Empire's started cloning or some... thing? Par's voice fades off. Kadan: It reminded me of our situation with Liana. In both cases, the people seemed like very unlikely candidates for imperial warlocks. What is going on? Par: I wish I knew, Kadan. Tarrant: Well what's our decision? Earendil: You know where I stand. Par: I guess we wait for them to return then. Tarrant: Or we could go find them... Kadan: Somehow I think cosmic forces are aligned against our revival of Valina. Par: If you want to Tarrant. I think I remember how to get there. Par: But I don't think another group of two or three of us show just up and vanish. Tarrant: That's true... Earendil goes upstairs to check on Valina. GMRune: Valina is sleeping peacefully. Her face is a little pale but her breathing is regular. Earendil takes a seat by her bed and waits. Tarrant is getting restless... Tarrant turns to the window and notices something. Tarrant opens the front door and leaves the house. Earendil hears the door open and runs downstairs. "What's happening?" Par: Tarrant just ran out! Par stands in confusion by the open doorway. Earendil takes a look out the door. GMRune: Tarrant is still in front of the house. GMRune: Tarrant disappears around a corner in a big hurry. Earendil: . o O (What is going on here?) GMRune: Tarrant comes back into view from the front of Earendil's house. Tarrant enters the house. Earendil: Tarrant, what happened? Tarrant: I saw somebody... Earendil: Who? GMRune: Ayeye and Rein return to Earendil's house. With them is a young man (early twenties) dressed in the robes of a priest of Althena. Tarrant: A shadow... I could not tell who it was. Kadan: Is this your friend, Rein? Earendil: Sir, are you a priest of Althena? The priest comes in and bows to the assembled party in Earendil's living room. "Good day, I am Deacon Ellis of Althena's temple here in Shelladon." Ellis turns to Earendil. "It is good to see you again as well, Earendil, son of Tuor. You may not know me, but I was a great believer in your father." Rein: This is Deacon Ellis. Earendil is taken aback. "I am honored that you think so highly of my father." Earendil: But please, there is a young woman in great need of your help. Ellis nods. "All right. Where is she? I'll do what I can." Earendil: She is upstairs, please follow me. Ellis follows Earendil. Earendil leads the deacon to the room with Valina. Kadan looks at the floor. "What's happening?" Rein hops upstairs. Kadan looks at the walls. "Does anybody else feel that?" Ayeye looks curiously at Kadan. "No." Ellis kneels beside Valina's bedside and clasps his hands in prayer. Rein does likewise. Earendil whispers, "Please, you must help her." Ellis: I will try, Earendil. That is all I can say. Ayeye stares at the ground and whispers, "This isn't a good thing..." Ellis concentrates, and Valina is covered by a soft blue glow. Tarrant: Do you feel that? Ayeye: Unfortunately. Kadan sits on his knees and puts his hands on the floor. "Does this house have any foundation water leakage issues, Earendil?" Earendil looks up suddenly. "I think I feel it too." Rein is lost in concentration Earendil: To my knowledge, no. Ayeye looks out a window for a possible cause. GMRune: The house begins to shudder to the point that everyone besides, Rein, Ellis, and Valina are aware of it. Tarrant: I am going outside to see if I can see anything strange... Kadan: Rein, are you doing anything funny? Earendil: It might be an earthquake, but I have never felt one before in all the years that I have lived here. Rein: ... Ayeye: Guys, you might want to see this... Earendil: Please, Kadan, don't disturb them. Ayeye points out the window. Earendil takes a look out the window. Kadan runs to Ayeye's side. GMRune: Somehow the outside of Earendil's house doesn't seem to be shaking in harmony with the walls around you. Tarrant goes outside... Earendil: What in Althena's name is happening? Tarrant goes back inside... Tarrant: Guys outside it is not shaking... Only inside. Rein looks almost limp. GMRune: The shaking inside increases in strength, and the floodboards of Earendil's living room begin vibrating. Kadan: Rein! Grab Valina! We need to get out of here. Earendil: We have to get out of here, Ellis, Rein, we have to get Val out of here. GMRune: Rein remains motionsless, praying over Valina, as is Ellis. GMRune: Valina continues to be bathed in a soft blue light. Earendil: No, wait, what if it's coming from them? Earendil points to Ellis and Rein. Kadan steps outside of the house. Earendil stays inside with Rein, Ellis, and Valina. GMRune: The floor in Earendil's living room suddenly erupts, and a group of small, disc-shaped creatures roll out into the room. They have sharp, triangular teeth, well equiped for burrowing. Earendil: . o O (Okay, maybe I was wrong.) GMRune: The creatures screech loudly upon seeing that they are indeed inside the house. Kadan: What on Lunar...? Earendil takes out his sword. Tarrant: Now you have done it. You've got Earendil mad. Ayeye tackles the guy and tries to bring him to the ground. GMRune: The creatures, being no more than two feet high apiece, form a small circle and chirp loudly. Three men come out of their tunnel to join them. Ellis suddenly falls over. He screams, and the light fades from Valina. Earendil: Ellis? Rein slumps over, doing his best sack-o-taters impression GMRune: The men and their creatures attack the party in the living room (Earendil, semi in the living room, semi- in the bedroom, can join in whenever). GMRune: -------round 1------ Earendil rushes down the stairs. GMRune: targets: 3 Soldiers in front, 6 Diskers in back ~Geint remains sleeping stolidly on the couch. GMRune: Kadan casts Tactic on himself! Kadan looks very efficient! GMRune: Ayeye goes to Rein, Ellis, and Valina. GMRune: Kadan moves to the back row, equips his Silver Bow, and attacks Disker #1! GMRune: attack 1: 290 damage GMRune: Disker #1 is dead! GMRune: Kadan moves on to Disker #2! GMRune: attack 2: miss GMRune: Disker #2 spins forward and attacks Kadan! GMRune: It misses! GMRune: Disker #3 spins forward and latches on to Earendil! GMRune: 10 damage! The Disker is still firmly locked on to Earendil's leg! Earendil violently tries to shake the thing off. GMRune: Disker #4 spins forward and attacks Tarrant! Kadan blinks at the strange creatures. "They certainly can lash out from afar!" Earendil: Get off me you bloody creature. GMRune: *critical* 17 damage! The Disker is firmly locked on to Tarrant's arm! GMRune: Disker #5 whirls and attacks Kadan! Tarrant: Get the hell off me you leech. GMRune: 3 damage! Disker #5 has latched on to Kadan's arm! GMRune: Disker #6 attacks Arzel! GMRune: 74 damage! Disker #6 is firmly stuck on Arzel's arm. Earendil: Guys, prepare yourselves, this might hurt a little bit. GMRune: Earendil uses Blade Anger! He lashes out at all his enemies, including those stuck to the hapless party members! GMRune: All Soldiers take 114 damage! All Diskers except Disker #3 are obliterated! Kadan takes 7 damage! Arzel takes 49 damage! Par takes 68 damage! Tarrant takes 1 damage! Earendil: Um, sorry about that, but I had to get rid of the diskers somehow. Par: Could've... been less painless... GMRune: Soldier #1 attacks Earendil. GMRune: attack 1: 3 damage GMRune: attack 2: 1 damage GMRune: Soldier #2 attacks Earendil! GMRune: attack 1: *critical* 117 damage GMRune: attack 2: 1 damage GMRune: Soldier #3 uses Blade Smash! He dashes forward and impales Earendil on his sword before phasing up and reappearing back where he started. GMRune: 80 damage! GMRune: Arzel casts Calm Litany! Kadan gains 125 hp! Earendil gains 125 hp! Arzel gains 125 hp! Par gains 68 hp! Tarrant gains 18 hp! GMRune: Par casts Ice Slivers on the Soldiers! They each take 205 damage! GMRune: Tarrant casts Thorn Shower! The Soldiers are bombarded with spiky thorns! 319 damage to each! GMRune: ------round 2------ GMRune: Kadan attacks Disker #3 (and Earendil)! Kadan gets into a hacking frenzy. Earendil: Uh, Kadan, keep that axe away from me. GMRune: Kadan's first swing goes wild! His second catches Earendil's thigh, missing the Disker altogether! Earendil takes 90 damage! Arzel: Poor Ear. Earendil tries limping away from Kadan. Kadan: Hackey! Hackey! Par shakes his head. Earendil: Help! Help! Arzel: I'd help but I too slow. GMRune: Disker #3 bites in deeply on Earendil's leg. It suddenly glows red hot and explodes! Earendil takes 86 damage! GMRune: Disker #3 is dead. Kadan: What curious creatures. How dare they do that before I have the pleasure of dicing them into little bite-sized cubes?! Earendil grasps his leg in pain. "Kadan, get that bloody thing away from me and my leg." GMRune: Earendil uses Broad Slash against the Soldiers! GMRune: 117 damage to each! All the Soldiers die! GMRune: --------victory!------- Kadan spins around on one toe, then thrusts his fist into the air repeatedly while smiling gleefully. Arzel: I think someone should heal Ear... my magic isn't good enough to do it affectively Earendil gapes. "My living room . . ." Earendil: Dammit, almost forgot about Valina. Somebody help me upstairs. GMRune: The party earns 188 XP, 315 MEXP, and 141 S. Arzel: Hey Tar? Can you manage healing Ear? GMRune: Valina is still lying undisturbed in the bedroom. Ellis and Rein are still lying on the floor near her. Tarrant: Sure. Rein: ... Tarrant casts Recovery Litany on Earendil. Arzel heals himself. :) GMRune: Earendil gains 220 hp! GMRune: Arzel is healed to full! Arzel: Yay. Earendil: What happended to them? Par follows after Earendil. "I don't know..." GMRune: Ayeye is also in the room with the two priests and Valina. Earendil trys prodding Rein awake. Rein twitches, but makes no sound. Earendil sighs, "Now all three of them are comatose." Par: Great, instead of one unconscious person we now have three...." Arzel attempts to heal Rein. Earendil: What am I to do now? GMRune: Rein is at full health. Par: First of all, what happened to them? Earendil: All I know is that they were praying and suddenly Ellis screamed and slumped over. Kadan looks at Ellis suspiciously. Arzel: Do we know anyone skilled in mental magic? Par: I'm afraid not, Arzel. Hopefully they'll be able to come out of whatever hurt them on their own. Earendil: What have I done now? I hurt two more people. Arzel: I meant if we knew anyone with mental magic that would attack them. Par: Well... Gausuton might... I think someone said he might sometime before. Arzel: Hmmm... well I'm stumped then. Earendil sits down in a chair and looks extremely depressed. Kadan: The mainland is infected with corruption now. We need to get out of here. Par: We'll just have to hope then. This really hasn't been a good morning... GMRune: -------end session-------
