She charges forward, running him through with her sword only to disappear and emerge back where she started. Valina glares at the leader. GMRune: 105 damage! Earendil turns from the leader and gives the bowman the same look he gave the leader before he attacked her. GMRune: 152 damage! GMRune: ------round 4----- GMRune: Kadan attacks Bowman #2! GMRune: attack 1: 147 damage GMRune: Bowman #2 dies! GMRune: ----victory!----- Kadan snarls with a grunt of satisfaction. Kadan twirls around, then thrusts his fist in the air repeatedly in victory. Earendil rushes back over to Valina. GMRune: Valina strangely does not awaken. GMRune: The party earns 147 XP, 218 MEXP, and 64 S. Earendil: Valina? Valina! Valina: ... Earendil calls upon the power of the Blue Dragon. Earendil casts Blue Dragon Heal. GMRune: The party regains full HP. Kadan immediately tries to investigate the warriors, and see if any of them are conscious. Valina hummms... and shows signs of life, but she doesn't wake. Earendil: Come on Val, wake up! Earendil: Dear Althena, don't let this happen to me again! Kadan tries to slap Soldier #2 awake. "Talk to me, you!" GMRune: None of the warriors appear to have survived the battle. Kadan: Who were these imbeciles? Earendil: . o O (Father, mother, Elanor . . . Valina. Is everybody I try to protect doomed?) Par: They may have been mercenaries hired by the warlocks. Protectoriate makes good use of them. Earendil just sits on the ground, cradling Valina in his arms. Kadan shakes his head. "Money can cause so much destruction among desperate people." Par nods. Earendil mutters, "If only I had asked Rein to come with us." ~Geint flaps over to take a seat on Earendil's shoulder. "But we don't know why she's still knocked out. Maybe she's still kinda crazy." =P Kadan: Earendil, we need to get moving. Perhaps you can find some tonic or something or other inside the city. Come on. Earendil: Geint, don't call her crazy! ~Geint makes a sad face. "Sorry, Ear." Earendil picks Valina up. "You are right Kadan, let's go." Kadan turns and walks faster through the damp tunnel muttering something to the effect of, "Wow... didn't actually think he'd agree with me." Par shrugs and follows after Kadan. Earendil follows the group. GMRune: The party continues through the sewers. The stench grows slightly more bearable as you progress. After a while you begin to see ladders leading up to the surface. Kadan: We shouldn't stay in the light too long once we ascend. Let's look for a place to hide, and plan our next move. Par: We must be below the city by now. If we just get a little further in we should be able to find a place I recognize. Earendil still feels kind of nauseous but doesn't let it interfere with him. Par nods again to Kadan. GMRune: A few squeaking sounds echoes down from further ahead, and there is the sound of creaking as though someone has opened a rusty grate. Earendil: Par, how much further do we have to go? Par: I'm not sure. I don't recognize this place yet, but I think I'm getting an idea of where we are. Earendil: Hurry . . . please. Par points towards an offshoot that comes up on the party's left. "Let's try that way." GMRune: There is the sound of rushing water down the path Par has chosen. And you notice that the flow of water in the sewer is heading in the opposite direction you are going. There are still ladders to be seen every couple hundred yards or so. Par seems a little unnerved by the sound of the water but keeps on going. GMRune: The sound of water increases as the party continues down the path, but the water flowing alongside you doesn't seem to be going any faster. Indeed it seems to be moving at a relaxed pace. Earendil: I know you can't hear me, but I have to get this off my chest. Earendil: This is all my fault, I said I would protect you and see what happened. Earendil: When . . . when you've woken up and I know you'll be all right, I'll leave. Earendil: My presence seems to be a curse around anyone I love. Par walks along quietly, unable to help overhearing Earendil's soliloquy but trying hard to ignore it. Earendil: I will go after the rest of the dragon armor on my own. Valina: ... Earendil: You can . . . you can find somebody else who can live up to his promises. Kadan: We could get lost down here. Let's at least take a look at the surface to see where we are. GMRune: The sound of water suddenly begins to thunder, and you feel the flooring of the sewer beneath you begin to shake. Earendil: Uh Par, what's going on. Par: Uh.... remember that creaking sound we heard earlier? Earendil: Uh yes. Par: I think that was the opening of a floodgate. Earendil: Then let's get out of here, now! Par nods and bolts for it. Earendil runs after Par. GMRune: The party dashes down the slippery passageways of the sewers. Kadan: Where is that rushing water coming from? GMRune: The roar of the flooding waters gains on you, driving you back towards the ocean. You glimpse a ladder dangling from above you as you run, but it is too high to reach. It's at least four feet above your heads. Earendil: Par says a floodgate opened. Par nods empathically. Kadan: Great... Par: Should we try for this ladder or look for another one? Kadan: We need to grab on a ladder. Any ladder! Are any of them closer to the ground? Par: I don't know. There might be if we keep looking... Earendil frantically looks around for another ladder. GMRune: There is a sparkling just barely in view further down the tunnel, but you don't know what it is. The floodwaters get even louder still... Kadan runs instinctually towards the sparkling. Earendil runs toward the sparkling. GMRune: The sound of water crashes behind you as you run. Out of the corner of your eyes yu can just barely make out a gaining movement. The shimmer you saw is indeed a ladder. Its lowerest rung is six and a half feet in the air. Earendil hoists Valina onto his back. "We don't have time to go back, let's try for this ladder." Kadan dashes toward the ladder, hoping for a burst of adrenalin. Kadan clutches onto the ladder and clambers up with all his might. GMRune: The party reaches the space beneath ladder. The floodwaters are in the distance, but still in view. Par: Ear, you go first! You've got Valina. Earendil: Par, you go and then help Valina and I. Par: Well, alright. Par leaps up and hauls himself part way up the ladder before stopping to reach down and help Earendil. Earendil reaches up for Par's hand. Par locks his legs around the rungs to hang upside down to help Earendil get a good hold on the ladder. Earendil grasps onto rungs. Par helps pull up some of Valina's weight and moves further up the ladder to give Earendil room. Par: C'mon Kadan! Get yourself up! Kadan clutches onto the rungs hand over hand to get himself up the ladder. GMRune: The water roars beneath the ladder as the party climbs up the ladder. Kadan's legs are caught within the torrent though. Kadan tries to muster every bit of strength he has to clamber up the metal ladder against the water. Par is almost to the grate near the surface by now. GMRune: Kadan's grip slips for a moment. But then he pulls himself up and out of the water with a grunt. Earendil climbs up behind par, pulling Valina's weight with him. Par pops open the grate, explosing the party to the waning light of sunset. He climbs out and offers Earendil a hand up. Earendil accepts Pars help and climbs up Par expects Kadan will be able to get out all right, but checks to be sure. "Can you get out okay?" Kadan: I'm... growl... just fine... Par glances around then while Kadan climbs out. Earendil tries to remember of a place that can help Valina. GMRune: The party seems to be on an alleyway, a rather seldom used one. There is a lot of sawdust on the ground and it is thick, without footprints. Kadan immediatly looks in all directions to assess the area. Par sighes. "At least we're in now, although we certainly could smell better." Earendil: C'mon, I have to find somebody to help Valina. GMRune: There appears to be two ways out of the alleyway. One of the ways is towards the west, offering a good view of the waning sun. Par: You know, we might have a hard time traveling through the streets if we smell like a bunch of rats. Earendil: Then what do you suggest we do? Kadan sniffs the air. "It doesn't bother me much." Par shrugs. "I don't know. But we should try avoiding people we have no business with." Kadan: We should avoid the streets. Par nods. "But where should we head? We need someplace to go." Earendil: I think I can get up to my old house safely. If I'm correct, it should still be abandoned. Kadan: Can we find a healer on Caldor Isle? Shouldn't we find a ship before nightfall? Earendil: I don't think we have the time. Par: I hope so. It wouldn't be too good to come home and find someone else in your own house. Par: I'll have to agree with Earendil. I don't think we'll be able to sail before tomorrow. Besides, Valina might not be able to wait. Par: The journey to Caldor isn't going to happen overnight. Earendil head to the path behind the buildings. "C'mon, follow me." Par shakes some of the water off of his robes and heads after Earendil. GMRune: -----end session-------
