Ayeye had found a list of "ingredients" to Yegaar's spell that would enable him to become a lyche, an undead wizard. GMRune: So far, it would appear the only thing Yegaar is for certain missing are the star magic Tarrant posses and possibly danger from the heroes, yourselves. GMRune: Now you ascend the staircase from the sixth floor up to the seventh. However, when you reach the seventh, you find you way blocked by a thick door with a rather conspicuous golden keyhole in it. Rein: Huh? Why is this here... Tarrant: I hope someone brought a skeleton key.. Lira: Well, there were skeletons... Ayeye pushes on the door, "I didn't see one, do we have to go looking again!" Arzel: I don't feel like burning dust off all of you again. :P Tarrant: Well, I do not feel any magical presence from the door nor the keyhole.. Lira: Yegaar might be trying to delay us so he has the right amount of time before he can try completing his spell. Ayeye shudders at the thought of being suffocated again. "I don't think I'd like that either..." Lira: Well, we could try avoiding the dusted room. Rein: Or maybe he's just trying to get us all excited so we're more 'dangerous', whatever that means... Ayeye taps Zara's Spear against the door. "Any idea as to which room it's in?" Lira: Well, he wants Tarrant, so he obviously expects us to get through. The key shouldn't be that hard to find. Rein: Maybe it's in the library. Tarrant: Does anyone remember seeing a key anywhere? Lira: We can check. There are enough places to hide it there. Arzel: Nope... I never saw one. Ayeye sighs and heads back to the library. Arzel follows Ayeye. Lira heads down after her. Tarrant stays by the door. GMRune: The party, except for Tarrant, arrives back at the library. Bookcases line the circumference of the floor and you see the second staircase leading back down to the fifth floor. Arzel: I might be able to teleport to the other side of the door, but I've never tried before and I might kill myself by teleporting into a wall or something. Ayeye quickly searches for keys. Arzel does like Ayeye. Arzel pulls on somthing behind one of the shelves. Arzel: There's something back here. GMRune: A steel bar with some strange indentions pops out from behind the bookcase. Ayeye pulls something from behind some books and looks at it. Arzel looks at the bar. GMRune: Ayeye acquired a Jasmine. Arzel: This might be a key. O_O Ayeye holds out the Jasmine. "Ano... what's this do?" Lira: It's a kind of herb. If you crush it, its fragence will heal you. Arzel shows the bar to Ayeye. "This might be a key." Ayeye shrugs. "I don't know... I'm not a locksmith... We could try it." Arzel wanders back up the stairs. Arzel tries the bar on the lock. Ayeye follows Arzel back to the door. GMRune: The bar swivels in the keyhole and makes a loud click. Arzel pushes on the door. GMRune: The door slides forward a bit under Arzel's pressure, but seems to be a little jammed. Arzel looks for what's jamming it. Rein: Careful... GMRune: The hinges seems to be complaining a tad bit. They probably haven't been used in a while. Ayeye pushes against it. Arzel pushes harder. GMRune: The door swings open beneath Arzel and Ayeye's combined strength, spillin them into the room. Tarrant: Does anyone else have the feeling as if we are being watched? GMRune: The door opens to reveal a laboratory filled with beakers and foul smelling liquids. A white horse with wings stands chained to the wall on the far side of the room by a staircase. In the very center of the lab rests a massive chimera. Its three heads; goat, lion, and serpent, watch you through smoldering eyes. Ayeye steps back from the door, "No, not me." Rein: This all seemed a bit too easy. Arzel looks wearily at the chimera. GMRune: The chimera raises itself on its haunches and looks intently at the party. Ayeye waves to the chimera. "Er...hello?" Tarrant: Good boy... Uhh... Please lay back down... GMRune: The pegasus rattles his chains slightly as he turns towards you. "You've got to run! I don't think you can beat that thing! It's Yegaar's pet monster!" GMRune: The chimera growls deeply from the throats of its lion and serpent heads. Ayeye stares blankly at the Pegasus. "A horse that can talk...wow..." Lira scoots back to the doorway. Tarrant: Can you defend yourself my friend? Arzel: Uhh... does anyone have any chimerabane? Rein: Where's Yegaar? Pegasus: He won't bother with me. He's just here to guard the passage to his master." Pegasus: Yegaar is upstairs, on the roof! GMRune: The chimera looks at Arzel and the lion's head licks its lips. The monster gathers its weight beneath its haunches and leaps forward to attack! Pegasus: I can't believe it! You actually defeated that creature. The pegasus bows his head in deference to you. Ayeye waves it off. "It was nothing..." Pegasus: Still, that was an incredible battle. Arzel: Don't worry Rein... I plan on staying in the back now. Rein admits, "We ARE pretty cool sometimes." Arzel unchains the Pegasus. The pegasus spreads his wings to stretch them and nods to Arzel. "Thank you, young mage." Pegasus: What brings people like you here to the home of a renegade warlock? Arzel bows his head. Ayeye glances up the stares as a worried expression crosses her face. "We could barely beat that chimera, do you think we stand any chance against that warlock?" Lira shakes her head from the doorway. "I don't know. Perhaps a small one, but I think it must be taken." Tarrant: Will you help us defeat him Lira? Arzel: A person's guards are usually more powerful than the person, otherwise the person wouldn't need a guard. Lira: I'm not a fighter. You know that. Perhaps I can help heal you during battle if necessary. But though I despise him, I cannot raise a weapon to harm him. Ayeye stares up. "I...I don't know if I can do it..." Arzel: Tarrant will invincible you again I'm shure. :) The pegasus turns his head to one side to look at Ayeye. "You may. It will be hard, but Yegaar is not immortal. You've defeated his guardian, so you have the potential--you _and_ your friends." Ayeye lowers her head. "Well, however this is going to turn out, we should continue..." Pegasus: The world doesn't need a second Magic Emperor. And Yegaar will seek to displace Kargeth if his spell succeeds. Though Yegaar is completely of this world, that doesn't make him any better than a dark lord that isn't. Pegasus: I'll be looking to see you heroes again. My tribe may have a gift to give you before the Darkness passes. Capture the feather Yegaar has taken from me, and I will see you shortly thereafter. Ayeye looks curiously at the Pegasus. "A dark lord? What dark lord?" The pegasus looks curiously at Ayeye. "He who already sits on the throne." Arzel: He means Kargeth. Ayeye: I thought he was a warlock... The pegasus raises his head and utters a melodic cry. He then vanishes in a soft white light. Tarrant: Well, our goal seems clear... Arzel: Yes, it does. Ayeye isn't quite as impressed with teleportation as she used to be. Arzel: We should continue on. Lira nods readily. Arzel starts up the stairs. Ayeye catiously follows Arzel. Tarrant follows Ayeye. GMRune: The party reaches the top of the stairs and emerge under the open sky. The horizon is a deep red, bloody with the color of sunset. To the east, the first stars are beginning to emerge. At the center of the circular roof, stands a hooded figure; Yegaar. Arzel looks wearily at Yegaar. Yegaar raises a gnarled hand from the sleeve of his robe. In it he holds an ancient skull. His other hand remains in a pouch at his side. Rein: Boo! Yegaar: I see you have arrived, Tarrant. Are you prepared to hand over the star magic now? Ayeye raises her spear and tries to look determined. "You will not succeed!" Tarrant: Never. Yegaar chuckles drily. "Who are you to foretell what will or will not be? Fate is never decided by mortal will alone." Arzel: But mortal will can influence fate, and that's what we're here to do. Yegaar: You may wish to reconsider. After all, you might be able to withstand my magic since you are young and talented. But what about your friends? And don't forget, I killed Corwin as well." Ayeye: Maybe I'm no mortal! Yegaar laughs, turning his hooded cowl to Ayeye. Green lights flicker with amusement from within its dark recesses. Tarrant: Your mind is as feable as you are. Yegaar: Very well, if you will not hand over the star magic so easily, I will give you a demonstration of my power. Then you, Tarrant, will want to hand over the magic to spare the lives of your friends! Ayeye takes up an attack position. "Ready guys?" Yegaar: Danger from the heroes, isn't it? Well, show me what danger you possess! GMRune: -------round 1------- GMRune: target: Yegaar GMRune: Ayeye attacks Yegaar! GMRune: attack 1: 1 damage GMRune: attack 2: *critical* 13 damage GMRune: Yegaar raises the skull in his left hand and points it at Rein! Green lights shoot out from the sockets of the skull of paralyze Rein! GMRune: Rein is paralyzed. Arzel glances at Rein. "That could be bad. O_O" Rein: Grk... grk... Rein drools on himself. GMRune: Lira waits hesitantly. GMRune: Yegaar casts Star Shield on himself. GMRune: Arzel casts Convalescene Litany on Tarrant! GMRune: Tarrant gains continual healing. Ayeye shudders as she watches the big bad warlock become even harder to hurt... GMRune: Tarrant casts Star Shield on himself! GMRune: Tarrant gains 50 hp from the litany. GMRune: ------round 2----- Tarrant: Thanks Arzel. Arzel: No prob Tar! GMRune: Ayeye attacks Yegaar! Tarrant is hit for 126 damage! Lira is hit for 250 damage and knocked out! GMRune: Tarrant casts Quiet on Yegaar! It fails! GMRune: Yegaar lowers his skull and looks Tarrant in the eye. Tarrant: Uhh.. Lira anytime to heal would be nice. Yegaar: Now, young one, are you ready to surrender the magic? I could kill your friends if you persist on fighting me. Tarrant: You'll never take it from me. Rein continues to drool melodically. Yegaar: I don't want to take so much as to receive. How about an exchange? The lives of your friends, for the star magic your grandfather locked within you. Tarrant: I wish it were that simple, but as you can see I am not a gambling man. Tarrant spits on Yegaar. GMRune: The spit evaporates with a hiss as soon as it touches Yegaar's robes. Yegaar: A pity. I was hoping to have someone witness my moment of triumph. But I suppose things must be done the hard way. GMRune: --------round 3------- Yegaar: Prepare for death to receive you, young one! Tarrant: Death is eternal, Life is never eternal. GMRune: Yegaar casts Meteor Rush! GMRune: Tarrant takes 176 damage! GMRune: Tarrant is knocked out! GMRune: -----the party loses...------ Arzel wonders what happens now. GMRune: As Tarrant falls he feels a strange sensation of something strong and malicious ripping the strands of his magic from his being. Tarrant begins to vibrate. GMRune: The party passes through a state of darkness, but soon a light emerges towards you. At first it is only a flicker in the blackness, but it draws nearer, soothing you of the damage Yegaar has wrecked. Voice: Four tribes to guard the moon, four tribes beneath the goddess... Phoenix, Pegasus, Dragon, and Shadowcat, wardens of this world's fate... Voice: Have we failed? The prisoners of the past are soon to be set free... Voice2: *We* have not. Our failure was in investing so much in these humans. This same breed became the Magic Empire. They can be the end as well as the salvation. Voice: Then they must correct the balance. I would give them another chance. Voice2: If you must. The female of the four doesn't like me much. Voice: Now isn't the time for anger and revenge. Althena would not wish it. Voice2: ... ... Very well, for Althena's sake. Voice2: But they have better not die another time! They're starting to owe me... GMRune: The party is engulfed by the light and you awaken to find yourselves in a large city. It is nightfall. Ayeye blinks and looks around. "What was that?" GMRune: The party is at full hp and mp. Tarrant awakes with a tingling feeling. Rein wipes his chin. Ayeye grabs for her spear. "Where are we, and where is the warlock?!" GMRune: The party also notices that Lira is no longer with them. Tarrant quickly gets up, he looks towards the heavens and realizes something. Tarrant takes his cane on the ground and drifts off away from the party. Arzel: Uhh Tarrant? Ayeye follows Tarrant. "Umm...Tarrant? Did we win..." Tarrant throws his cane at a building. GMRune: The cane dully thunks off of the stone wall. Rein: You hit it. Rein: Nice shot. Arzel: Hurting inanimate objects solves nothing Tarrant... I suggest we look for the rest of our group... with them we may be able to beat Yegaar. Tarrant: How frivolous your attemps at condolences, you do not see the big picture... Ayeye turns away from Tarrant and stares off into the sky. "We failed... I knew it! I am useless! If Kadan were there, he could've done something." Arzel looks at Ayeye. "This is not the time for that." Arzel turns to Tarrant. "Would you then enlighten us on the 'big picture'?" Ayeye: We failed, didn't we? Everything is lost... Tarrant: You're right about that Ayeye, everything is lost........ Rein twirls his staff absently. Ayeye takes a deep breath and lets herself fall against a nearby building. Tarrant: For you see, from this point on you will never be invincible Ayeye. Arzel: No! Everything is not lost...we still have a Dragonmaster! No matter what the odds we will be able to stop Yegaar, and Kargeth. Tarrant: But a lyche must surely be more powerful than a Dragonmaster. Arzel: Shure, a lyche is more powerful than a Dragonmaster! But not a Dragonmaster, four dragons, Althena, and a group of adventurers! Rein: Althena is important Arzel: The warlocks may even join in the fight against Yegaar! Kargeth will not give up his throne easily! Tarrant: What more can we possibly do that we haven't already done? Arzel: Shure, we may not beable to destroy Yegaar now, but we can't give up hope! Arzel: So... what are we going to do? Sitting here hitting that building doesn't sound very productive. Tarrant: That's it... I have had enough of this BS, I am outta here... Ayeye: What can we do? We failed... Tarrant walks off. "Don't bother following me." Arzel: Tarrant! Ayeye frowns as Tarrant takes off. GMRune: -----end session------
