Lunar: Magic Empire Session 43 Log ============================================================ Cast of Characters: Rune as "GM/Narrator, Mage, Lira, and Skeleton" GORN as "Rein" SOLaike as "Tarrant" Dyne as "Arzel" Ayeye as "Ayeye" ============================================================ GMRune: -----game on------ GMRune: Tarrant, Arzel, Ayeye, and Rein begin their journey through the hills east of Vane towards Yegaar's tower. The sun rises in the sky as you travel through the terrain. GMRune: After a hour or so of walking, the four of you see three cloaked figures standing in the path before you. Tarrant: Looks like we have a welcome party. Ayeye glances at the cloaked figures, "Looks like the usual..." Arzel: Don't we always? GMRune: The figures stay at a distance, moving no closer to the party even when they notice you. Rein glances nervously at the figures. Ayeye keeps walking, hopefully right by the offending cloaked figures. GMRune: The figures move to block Ayeye from passing. Tarrant feels the adrenaline start to kick in as he suddenly becomes cautious. Rein looks to the other party members. Ayeye looks up at the figures. "Oh...hello..." Ayeye: I don't suppose you would move out of our way? Mage: I'm sorry, but the Master is busy right now. You may not pass, unless of course, the young mage in your party returns the stolen star magic to Master Yegaar. Tarrant: Ha, do not make me laugh. Ayeye: Ah... that thing again... How can he return it from here? Mage: We can remove it from him if he is willing. Rein: I believe your master was expecting us. Ayeye: What if he insisted on seeing... that... annoying... wizard type-person? Mage: He is. We were sent here to wait for you. Mage: He will have to fight his way past us. He may succeed. He may not. We only follow our orders. Tarrant: If it is a fight you want, you've got your wish. Rein: But what if Tarrant is killed? Won't the magic be lost? Ayeye looks at Tarrant. "Ano... Tarrant... We seem to be short on the muscle bound people..." Mage: We can remove the magic from his corpse so long as it's killed by star magic itself. Rein: They wield star magic as well... The mage nods. "That we do. The Master is a great study of the stars." Ayeye takes a step back and raises Zara's Spear. "We can't have you killing him, he's like family to us." The mage shrugs. "So what do you intend to do? Force your way past? I suppose we could use the exercise." Arzel snickers. Ayeye smirks. "As could we..." Rein: If this magic that Tarrant's got is so great, aren't you at least a LITTLE scared of it? Arzel: I'll have that carved on your tombstone. "He just wanted the exercise." Mage: The Master does not believe he has mastered it yet. Rein looks at Tarrant. Tarrant: That's it you sorry excuse for a mage... Prepare to be stardusted. GMRune: The mages prepare to attack. A brutal vine snakes out of the ground and lashes the Magi! GMRune: 210 damage! GMRune: Magi #3 dies! GMRune: ------victory!------ Rein: Yes..... GMRune: Ayeye wakes up with 1 hp. Tarrant: Yeah. GMRune: The party earns 186 XP, 483 MEXP, and 54 S. Ayeye stands up and holds her head in her hands. "Oww... I miss Kadan, he's so much better at absorbing blows..." Rein: Alright, everybody, round up for a Heal Aura. GMRune: Tarrant casts Heal Aura! Ayeye gains 82 hp and is at full. Rein gains 145 hp and is at full. Arzel gains 190 hp. Tarrant gains 190 hp. Tarrant: He might be able to absorb blows but not magic spells. Ayeye drags herself over to Rein. "Hai..." Rein: Tarrant, you should save your strength for battle... we're gonna need it. GMRune: After the magi fall, there is a sudden rush of wind and you see a lithe figure appear in front of you. Her appearance is not such as from a teleportation, but rather that her movements had been so swift she had darted into view before you could register otherwise. GMRune: As her brown hair falls to rest around her face, you recognize her as the dryad you freed from House Flysse. Lira. Rein blink-blinks. GMRune: She glances curiously down at the dead magi and then turns to look at up at all of you. Ayeye stares at the new arrival, a confused look on her face. "Hello?" Tarrant stares at the woman for a few seconds, then reconizes her. "Hello." Arzel puts his hood back over his head. Lira: Hello. Lira: Are you on your way to that wizard's tower to the east? Ayeye pauses. "You are going to let us though, right?" Lira nods. "Of course I will." Ayeye: That's where we're going. Ayeye: Why are you here? Lira: I thought you might. I actually am here on a rescue mission of sorts. Tarrant: Rescue who? Ayeye: A rescue mission? Lira: My sister Seera has been capture by Yegaar. He needs her to complete an incantion of his. Ayeye: Oh... I don't suppose you'd like to travel with us? Rein: I don't suppose he's going to let her go after the incantation's over with? Lira: I suppose. I know you are capable of fighting him. But... where is the rest of your group? Lira shakes her head. "Dryads are highly magical. I doubt he would let her go even after he's done." Rein shakes his head. Ayeye shrugs. "They went off to meet some silly dragon." Lira: Dragon? I would not call such a thing silly. But perhaps they may seem so to humans. Tarrant: Are you a human, Lira? Ayeye: Uh... yeah... humans... Right, let's get going before that wizard-guy sends out more flunkies! Lira shakes her head with a smile. "No, I'm a dryad. Had you forgotten?" Tarrant: Perhaps I had.. Lira: Your friend is right, we should be going before more of Yegaar's followers arrive. He is becoming very dangerous as we speak. Rein: Why? What's happening? Lira: Yegaar is trying to become even more powerful than Kargeth. He seeks to become a lyche, an undead wizard, so that his magic will not be limited to mere mortality. Rein: Wow! Tarrant: Let's take him out before it happens. Lira nods. Ayeye taps the spear against the ground impatiently. "Come on!" Rein: Alright already! GMRune: The party sets off towards the tower again, and it is not much past noon before it rises into view. Ayeye digs through her backpack, pats the bush, and takes out the Serpent Bracers. "These may be useful..." GMRune: The tower is a tall stone structure colored in deep gray. Gargantuan gargoyles leer down at you from the roof. Roughly cylinderical in shape, there is an odd bulge running from the seventh to eighth floors of the tower. Ayeye equips the funny bracer things. Rein: Front door? GMRune: There a large stone doorway leading inside. Its face is covered with rune carvings, protraying both words and beasts of unknown origin. GMRune: The tower has no windows that you can see. Ayeye walks up to the door and looks at it. "Tarrant, I don't suppose this door is safe, is it?" Tarrant: Well I'm not really sure. Ayeye traces some runes with her finger. "Do you know what these are?" Tarrant looks at the runes GMRune: The runes rain minute bits of gravel under Ayeye's touch. Rein: What the... Rein: They're probably not too dangerous if they can't even hold themselves together, eh? Tarrant: They seem to say something about a warning and the rebirth of death. Ayeye continues tracing the runes. "Rebirth of death, huh. Isn't that a bit of a contradiction?" Lira shudders. "Seera will wilt in a place like this..." Ayeye finishes playing with the runes and attempts to force the door open. GMRune: The door opens with a groan of protest. Ayeye steps inside. GMRune: You enter a reception chamber of sorts. There are a couple easy chairs nestled in front of a barren fireplace. To the left of the fireplace and by the wall is a spiral staircase. Strange scratching sounds echo from above. Ayeye heads for the staircase. Tarrant follows Arzel. GMRune: The stairs continue upward, but on this floor is Yegaar's eating room. There is a small pantry, a wooden table, and a stove. Crockery stands on end in one corner. Arzel follows Ayeye. Rein: My this is all so homey... Lira: Even evil mages must eat... Ayeye continues up. "These crazy wizard types usually are on the top floor, right?" Arzel: Oh ya, I know a lot of crazy wizards. GMRune: This room showcases several objets d'art that Yegaar must have accumulated over his years of life. There are several ancient tapestries, ornamental swords, and china vases among them. Most of the glass cases are coated with a thick layer of dust as though no one has entered here for years. Ayeye looks back at Arzel. "From what I've seen of your 'friends', I wouldn't be surprised..." Ayeye continues onward and upward. GMRune: This floor is barren except for two skeletons lying on the ground. Ayeye glances nervously at the skeletons before continuing up. GMRune: As Ayeye sets foot on the staircase to continue up, there is a scratching sound. It comes from the skeletons. GMRune: The bones gather themselves with unseen ligaments and withered tendons hold them together as they manage to stand. Ayeye stops and again glances at the skeletons. Rein: Hurry, don't let them form! Rein jumps to try to knock the bones apart. Tarrant: Well I think we found our dead... A skeleton reaches out and grabs Rein by the arm. The skeleton speaks in a wheezing dry voice. "None may pass without the danger..." Rein whacks the skeleton on the head. The skeleton refuses to let go of Rein's arm and increases its grip on him. Ayeye stabs at the skeleton's arm. Rein looks at the party. Ayeye attempts to shatter the skeleton. "Er... Rein... did it just say something?" The skeleton turns its head to look at Ayeye. Its companion skeleton snatches Ayeye's spear to prevent her attack. Rein: Uhh... what danger? Skeleton: Possess the danger...! Ayeye stomps on the skeleton. "Let...go!" The skeleton holding Ayeye releases her. "Cannot pass without the danger." Ayeye stumbles back, surprised by the release. "Wh... what just happened?" Arzel: So, we gotta find this danger, can't be that hard. Lira: But carry it with us? What kind of danger? Ayeye: That's silly, you can't carry danger, it's a word, a concept, nothing more... Rein casts Revive Litany on the skeleton that grabbed him! Tarrant: Well.. Where does one look to find danger? Arzel: Ahh, but you can assign names to things, you are a person Ayeye, but your name is Ayeye... it could be a rock or something. :P The skeleton looks very hale for something so dead. The skeleton lifts its arm, lifting Rein in the air. "Bring the danger..." Ayeye looks down at the skeleton and, feeling foolish, asks, "What is the danger?" Rein: Alright already! We'll bring the freakin' danger! Rein: Geez... The dead can be so pushy. The skeleton opens its hand, dropping Rein to the ground. GMRune: Neither skeleton answers Ayeye. Rein looks sullenly at the corpse. Ayeye stands up straight and shrugs in exasperation. "Right, that's it, they want us to find an intangible item. Great..." Lira: So where do we go now? We have to get up the tower! Rein: Maybe we could go get Kadan, he's usually pretty dangerous... Rein: Or we could hit the kitchen Ayeye: I don't know! This is silly! How can we find danger! I mean, if I haven't run into it yet, there probably isn't any here! Lira: Maybe it's not immediate danger so much as the potential. Arzel looks around the room for danger. Arzel looks at the roof. "Falling rock, maybe." :P GMRune: The skeletons seem to regard the party with something resembling impatience. Ayeye sighs. "Right, do the skeletons count, if we try to walk by they'll grab us and we'll starve, does that work?" Lira shrugs. Tarrant: This is getting us nowhere. Ayeye: Yeah, and we're getting there slowly. Ayeye: Well, there are two skeletons, right? Anyone see any others? Arzel: So, where would a demented evil mage hide danger? Rein: Could the "danger" have anything to do with this star magic everyone's so fired up about? Arzel: Ya, star one of 'em Tar. :) Tarrant: Well... Rein: That's not what I meant. Arzel: It might work. :P Ayeye looks at each of the party members. "We're stuck, really stuck..." Ayeye heads back down a flight of stairs. Arzel glances around and follows Ayeye. GMRune: The party heads back down to the very dusty art room on the third floor. Ayeye starts exploring the dusty objects. Rein too. GMRune: As soon as Ayeye touches a glass case, the dust in the room flies up to coccon her in a suffocating gray coat! GMRune: The remainder of the dust proceeds to stiffle Rein. Arzel: Uhh... Arzel tries to get the dust off Ayeye. Ayeye stumbles back, no doubt tripping over something, and waves her arms wildly. "Argh!" GMRune: Neither Ayeye nor Rein are able to breath or speak as the dust is thick and clings to the mouth and nose. GMRune: Ayeye breaks an expensive vase. Tarrant goes to the ancient swords. Rein sneezes wildly. Ayeye: Mmmphh mmphh mphf! GMRune: As soon as Tarrant touchs a sword, some of the excess dust leaves Rein and Ayeye to suffocate him. Now all three are being smothered. Lira looks wide-eyed at them. She turns to Arzel. "Uh... I don't suppose you can get them out, can't you?" Arzel: Uhh, no. Rein hacks up a lung. Arzel tries to brush the dust off. Arzel: Fire won't work on dust, neither will light. GMRune: The dust doesn't come off when brushed. Most of the dust that is endangering them isn't dry anymore. Lira: Fire might... Couldn't you burn it? Arzel makes a little firey in his hand and tries to burn the dust off Arzel tries not to burn Ayeye though. GMRune: Arzel burns Ayeye for 5 damage, but she's able to breath again. Rein manages to hack "water". Ayeye: Argh! What is this stuff! Arzel: A little pain or death? *does it to the others* Arzel: You okay, Ayeye? I'm sorry. GMRune: Rein takes 5 damage and Tarrant 1, but they are now freed of the dust. Arzel: But I'm not in the mood for dead friends. Rein rubs the char off of his face. Ayeye stands up and brushes herself off. "Did that qualify?" Arzel: Did what? Tarrant gags as the oxygen fills his lungs. Ayeye looks at Arzel and smiles. "Almost being fried by you." Arzel: Hey! I control my flames better than that! Arzel: I should let you suffocate next time. *hmph* Ayeye: I'm sorry Arzel... Thank you... Rein: Crap... well, this place seems off limits. Lira looks back up the stairs. Lira turns to Rein. "It would appear so. Yegaar must want to protect his things." Arzel does like Lira. Ayeye looks over the room. "Nice defense system..." Rein: I still don't think we have danger... Rein: What would be dangerous to a skeleton? Arzel: A mace. Rein: Yeah, a coffin... Rein: Or fire, maybe? Arzel: Did someone say fire? Rein groans.. Lira: I think you guys could do fire... Arzel: Sorry Rein. Rein: Let's get a torch or something. Lira: Maybe the kitchen has something. Rein nods. Ayeye: Fire? Fire? Fire isn't that dangerous... Lira heads down to the second floor. Lira: Coming, guys? Tarrant: Yep. Arzel follows Lira. Ayeye stomps after Lira. "This is just silly..." GMRune: The party returns to the second floor. You are once again in the kitchen. There is a wooden table, a pantry, and some crockery by a stove in the corner. Arzel: Don't touch anything! Lira: I thought we were going to get a torch. Arzel: If you find one . Ayeye defiantly touches a piece of crockery. Rein: Some of this stuff would probably work. GMRune: Ayeye is unharmed. This room has no dust. At least, very little dust compare to the other. Ayeye: You could use the table. Arzel: Break a leg off? Rein: We can find some random wood, can't we? Arzel: Someone find some wood, and I'll make a torch. Lira digs under the stove and pulls out a small log. "Will this do?" Arzel: Ya. Arzel takes the log and lights it. Rein: Let's go see if this works. Arzel wanders back up stairs. GMRune: The party returns to the fourth floor where the skeletons are still standing, waiting for you. Arzel: So, what do I do with fire? Light 'em up? Rein: Old bones will crack from fire. Arzel tries to burn the skeletons. GMRune: The skeletons look impassively at Arzel, but move aside to avoid the fire. Skeleton: Bring the danger...! Arzel tries to get past the skeletons. GMRune: The skeletons don't seem to appreciate him trying to get past them. They attack the party. GMRune: -------round 1------- Rein: Oh great... Arzel: Whoops. The skeleton hisses, "The danger...!" Arzel: Well, lets see how they like fire. GMRune: target: 2 skeletons Ayeye: This was spectacularly unsuccessful. Lira: Maybe... Lira takes a step back to stay out of the battle. GMRune: Ayeye attacks Skeleton #1! Ayeye attempts to split a skeleton with Zara's Spear. GMRune: attack 1: *critical* 110 damage GMRune: attack 2: 53 damage GMRune: Skeleton #1 attacks Tarrant! GMRune: attack 1: 58 damage GMRune: attack 2: 32 damage GMRune: Skeleton #2 attacks Tarrant! GMRune: attack 1: *critical* 240 damage GMRune: Tarrant falls! Arzel: O_O GMRune: Skeleton #2 moves on to Arzel! GMRune: attack 2: 164 damage Rein: O_O GMRune: Rein waits. Ayeye watches Mr. Defense-of-Doom fall, and begins to fear the skeletons. GMRune: Arzel casts a wall of flame on the skeletons! GMRune: Skeletons each take 51 damage GMRune: ------round 2------ Arzel: We're dead. Ayeye twirls her spear, trying to look courageous. "Scared of a pile of bones, Arzel?" GMRune: Ayeye attacks Skeleton #1! GMRune: attack 1: 54 damage Arzel glances at Ayeye. "Uhh ya." GMRune: attack 2: *critical* 103 damage GMRune: Skeleton #1 attacks Arzel! GMRune: attack 1: miss GMRune: attack 2: 134 damage GMRune: Arzel in knocked out. :( Rein: D'oh! GMRune: Skeleton #2 attacks Ayeye! GMRune: attack 1: miss GMRune: attack 2: miss Ayeye dances around the skeleton's clumsy blows. Arzel does the unconcious rag doll flop again. GMRune: Rein casts Revive Litany on Tarrant! GMRune: Tarrant revives with 43 hp! GMRune: ----round 3--- Rein: We'll never make it through another round... Rein: We'd better get out of here.... GMRune: Ayeye attacks Skeleton #1! Tarrant: What the heck has Lira been doing this whole time? Lira shrugs from the sidelines. "I'm not a fighter!" Tarrant: You're not much of anything are you? GMRune: attack 1: *critical* 110 damage GMRune: attack 2: 53 damage GMRune: Skeleton #1 dies! Lira: I suppose. But my sort of magic isn't useful for combat. Ayeye starts jumping again. "I did it! Yeah!" GMRune: Skeleton #2 attacks Tarrant! GMRune: attack 1: *critical* 160 damage GMRune: Tarrant falls. GMRune: Skeleton #2 attacks Ayeye. GMRune: attack 2: miss GMRune: Rein casts Revive Litany on Tarrant! GMRune: Tarrant revives with 43 hp. GMRune: ------round 4------ Ayeye nimbly avoids the slow skeleton. GMRune: Ayeye attacks Skeleton #2! GMRune: attack 1: *critical* 116 damage GMRune: attack 2: *critical* 94 damage GMRune: Skeleton #2 attacks Ayeye! GMRune: attack 1: miss GMRune: attack 2: miss GMRune: Rein casts Heal Aura on the front row! Ayeye laughs at the silly skeleton. "You are too slow!" GMRune: Ayeye gains 5 hp and is at max! Tarrant gains 93 hp! GMRune: Tarrant casts Vine Scourge on Skeleton #2! GMRune: 210 damage! GMRune: Skeleton #2 falls! GMRune: -------victory!------- Rein strikes a victory pose. GMRune: The party earns 268 XP, 58 MEXP, and 10 S. GMRune: Arzel wakes up with 1 hp. Arzel stands up woozily. Ayeye kicks at the discarded bones. "That wasn't so hard..." Arzel: I'm beginning to regret coming with you Tarrant. Arzel heals himself. Rein: I think maybe you should hang out in the back like me, Arzel. GMRune: Arzel gains 125 hp. Arzel does it again. Ayeye starts up the stairs. GMRune: Tarrant casts Recovery Litany on himself. He gains 162 hp and is at full. Rein: We'd better keep moving. GMRune: Arzel heals 41 hp and is at full. Arzel: I feel better now :) GMRune: The party goes up to the fifth floor. GMRune: There are several pairs of bunk beds crammed into this room. All of them are empty, their sheets left in disarray. Rein: Let's keep moving. Ayeye continues up the stairs. GMRune: The staircase ends here, leaving you in a large library. Bookcases line the circumference of the floor, with another staircase begining from an outcropping from the main structure. Rein looks around warily. Tarrant stares at all of the books. Ayeye walks slowly by the books, reading the titles of some of them. Ayeye pulls a thick book of the shelf and starts looking through it. Ayeye turns to a bookmarked page. Rein glances at the stairs. Ayeye begins to read something from the book out loud. GMRune: Ayeye reads the following rhyme: Feather of the pegasus, heart from the song, Stars from the magic, hope carried long, Danger from the heroes, tears of the woodfolk, Essence of the bone, sulfur from the yolk. Waning of the day, hold the skull up high, Darkness comes the night, death begins to fly. Reach the hand to necros, soul from hell do filch, Embrace the wither in the heart, and arise the mighty lyche! GMRune: The velvety bookmark glows with each syllable she speaks. Ayeye: Odd... Tarrant: Um stop speaking.. Ayeye: Why? Lira: Tears of the woodfolk.... Perhaps that is why he needs my sister. Tarrant: I have a feeling you're casting a spell. Rein: Looks like we've brought the danger after all... I wonder why all the guards, then? Ayeye: What? We brought the danger? I'm casting a spell? Umm...I don't get it... Lira: Perhaps... perhaps you have to prove that you are a danger before the spell will work? Ayeye: We could burn the book. Ayeye scans the room. "Where is that evil wizard person, anyway?" Lira: I don't know if that would work. Rein points up. Ayeye looks up. "What?" Ayeye: Oh. Lira: Well, we know what ingredients he needs for his spell, maybe we can disrupt him somehow... Ayeye takes the book and heads toward the stairs. "Anyone have any ideas?" Rein: What time is it? Ayeye: Easy enough, he needs the Star Magic, right? Send Tarrant home. Lira: From the time we spent here I'd guess it's late afternoon. Arzel: Ya, but if we do that Ayeye, Vane will be burnt. Ayeye: Oh...er...I forgot... Rein: Well... if we don't threaten him, we won't really be bringing the danger, right? Rein: And he can't kill us, because he needs us... Lira has a funny look. "How do we not threaten him?" Ayeye ponders that. "If we disrupt him in anyway, won't he still burn Vane?" Rein: Maybe we could bake him cookies or something? Rein: Well... I guess. Arzel: Not if we kill him. Ayeye stares up the stairs. "I'm going up!" GMRune: The party heads up the stairs to the seventh floor. GMRune: --------end session--------
