T'lain himself lies motionless in the bed, sheets neatly tucked up to his chin. His skin is pale and flaccid and his eyes are shut. On the dresser nearby sits a single candle which lights the room and a small blue sphere. Kadan stands to the rear of the group, silent. The cat sits down on his haunches and gazes expectantly at the party. Arzel runs up to the side of the bed and sees if T'lain is still alive. Earendil lowers his head. GMRune: T'lain is not breathing. Arzel checks for a heart beat. Arzel: Rein? Can you do anything? Valina: ... Please Rein. Rein: I'm afraid it may be too late... Arzel tries to heal T'lain. Rein examines T'lain. GMRune: The blanket covering T'lain is stained somewhat with old blood. Arzel: I think I felt a fain heartbeat. Rein peers strangely at the blood. Rein: Is he wounded? GMRune: The blood appears to have stemmed from injuries on T'lain's body. Rein pulls the covers down and examines the sage. Arzel: Nahh... he's just bleeding from nothing... of course he's wounded. Valina: ... GMRune: The wounds strangely do not appear to be fatal though. Earendil: This is no time to joke around. Kadan tries to melt into the shadows, his presence feeling a bit awkward here. Arzel: I thought I felt a faint heartbeat... it was like a small flutter. Rein shakes his head. "I'll do what I can... " Arzel stands back and lets Rein work. Rein prepares a spell, and bigger sparklies than you've seen from him before spin around the room. Arzel: Is there... anything I can do? Tarrant: Need some help Rein? Rein casts Healing Litany. Rein: I may... Rein is lost in deep concentration. GMRune: All of T'lain's injuries disappear under the brilliant sparklies of Rein's spell. But the sage does not move, and otherwise seems as dead as before. Valina: ... Humm that didn't do too much. Earendil: His soul has left him, there is no more that we can do. Rein bows his head. Rein checks for a pulse again. Arzel: No... I don't think so... I've known a few sages, they've all shown a great will to live, I don't think T'lain would give up, he has too much to share with the world. Valina: Anything? The saber-toothed cat yowls and grabs a mouthful of Valina's arm (gently of course). Rein: Noo.. but the body's not too cold. The cat pulls gently at her. Rein: Maybe it happened recently. Arzel looks at the cat. The cat's gaze shifts to Arzel then back at Valina. Earendil: I wonder what he wants. Arzel walks over to the cat. Rein: Very odd... The cat lets go of Valina and instead takes a mouthful of Arzel's robe. He pulls him towards the small dresser. Arzel goes to where the cat pulls him. Rein: I wonder where the heat is coming from.. by all indications he's passed on, but... Rein runs a hand through his hair in frustration. The cat lets go once Arzel is at the dresser. Arzel looks at the dresser. Arzel starts to search the dresser for something. GMRune: On the dresser is a single candle and a blue sphere the size of a child's ball. GMRune: The dresser itself is empty. Rein: I wonder if he could have enchanted himself somehow... to appear dead perhaps. Arzel pics up the sphere. GMRune: The blue sphere suddenly sheds translucent light over the party. A beam shines from one side away from Arzel, projecting an image of T'lain. Though not as pale as the body next to you, he looks haggard and weak. Still, there is a fierce determination left in his gaze as his voice emerges from the sphere. Arzel examines the sphere. Arzel: T'lain! Kadan hides his eyes from the light. T'lain: No doubt you are deeply disturbed by the circumstances under which you have found this sphere. GMRune: The image of T'lain shakes his head and tucks his hands into the large folds of his sleeves. Arzel gazes at the image. Rein: I should say so... T'lain: Not long after you left with young Ghaleon the Empire finally decided I was too dangerous to be left alone. I entered a difficult battle with a warlock named Bane, whose forces have never been very far from my tower. Arzel shudders. Valina: Oh... great. Valina: Bane. Geint is asleep on Earendil's shoulder. =b T'lain: Though I succeeded in driving him away from here, it was not without its cost. Bane has an enchanted mirror, one which can capture the soul of anyone he uses it against. Normally it is too difficult to use in normal combat due to the amount of concentration and energy that must be channeled into it. But he had a companion with him. And this one concealed himself until the incantion was complete. Earendil baps Geint to wake her up. T'lain: I warded off its effects long enough to drive them out. But the unleashed magic would not leave, and my own defenses dwindled beneath its pressure. Finally I prepared this chamber and instructed my cat to take you to me should you return. T'lain's image sighs. Valina: ... Good cat. The cat purrs deeply. T'lain: The crystal chamber at the top of my spire is complete and undamaged. You need only take Ghaleon up to the large crystal on the dais and it will activate in response to his life signs. The only drawback is that you must summon someone else through the crystal for it to work. The exchange will take place immediately after he vanishes. So he will go ahead to his future time, and this other person shall come to you. Earendil: Who? Will it be someone at random? Valina: Humm? T'lain: I warn you. Do not attempt to summon powerful warlocks, dragons, phoenixes, and other such creatures through the crystal no matter how much you may want to. Try for another person similar in power to Ghaleon. Arzel: Maybe that's how we can get Ayeye. Geint is out cold. =b T'lain: That is all I really have left to say. It has been good to meet you. I wish I were here longer. Do not worry for me though, no matter how much you may feel inclined to do so. I am not dead. I believe that one day, perhaps soon, Bane's mirror will be broken, and I and the other souls trapped in it will be free. Good luck to you all. GMRune: With that, the image fades and the sphere dims. Arzel puts the sphere back on the dresser, and looks at T'lain's body. Earendil: It seems that we have yet another quest to take care of. Kadan tries to pet the cat softly. The cat makes a rumbling sound deep in his throat. Rein rearranges the body, preparing it to lie around for awhile. Arzel: Yes... but we are not powerful enough to defeat Bane. Arzel: Now... I say we send Leon on his way. Ghaleon frowns slightly. "I suppose..." Ghaleon: You have to promise to free my parents though! Valina: Yes... let's send him to what will hopefully be a better future. Arzel: It's for your own good, Leon... the warlocks in this time will hunt you for all eternity. Earendil: We all knew this day would come, Leon. Arzel starts to walk out of the room. Ghaleon nods solemnly. "I'll be ready this time. I know everyone wants me safe." The cat lopes after Arzel, head turned back to see if the rest of the party follows. Rein pats Ghaleon's shoulder and nods at his answer. Valina: I guess it is up to us to make a good future for you. Arzel slows his pace waiting for the others. Earendil: Yeah, you'll know what happens to us before we will. Ghaleon smiles slightly. "Yeah. I hope everything turns out right." Rein moves after Arzel. Arzel: Yes Leon, I'm shure you'll be able to read about Dragonmaster Earendil, and his group who saved the world from this tyranny. GMRune: The party moves after Arzel and the cat. After the last person leaves the room, the hidden door to the chamber glides shut. Earendil puts his hand on Ghaleon's shoulder. "And don't worry, we will save your parents, I promise you that." Ghaleon nods brightly to Earendil. "I look forward to hearing about it." Arzel: Now... let's get this over with. Valina just stands there and looks. Arzel starts to climb the tower. GMRune: The party passes unobstructed by the monsters of T'lain's Spire as they head up the stairs to laboratory on the fourth floor. GMRune: Before long, they reach the top. As T'lain had said, the laboratory is undisturbed and seems to be in perfect working order. The large aqua crystal on the dais shimmers brightly at your entrance. Arzel glances at the dais. Arzel: Well... this is our only way to get Ayeye back. Arzel: Are you ready, Leon? Par: We'll wish for her, and for Leon. Ghaleon nods and walks to the dais. The crystal glows brighter as he nears. The saber-toothed cat eyes the party and trots after Ghaleon. Arzel: Goodbye, Leon... be good and stay safe. Arzel looks at the cat. Earendil: Good luck Leon, and remember to practice with your sword. Ghaleon: I'll do my best. Thanks for everything, especially for teaching me so much about how to fight and what to fight for. GMRune: Ghaleon enters the crystal and the large saber- toothed cat disappears with him. Arzel tries to summon Ayeye back. Kadan crouches slightly and watches intently. Rein: Umm.. was the cat supposed to do that? Arzel: It knows what it's doing Rein... it's probobly smarter than all of us. GMRune: The crystal emits several white beams from its corners and the light spectrum changes from from a soothing aqua to a blazing crimson. The silouette of a young woman of about 5'4" appears before it. When the magic fades, Ayeye comes into view. Ayeye stumbles forward and blinks as she tries to adjust to the light. "It worked!" Valina: ... Arzel: Ayeye! We got you back... where were you? GMRune: Ayeye is carrying a large spear the party has never seen before. Rein looks away in relief. Ayeye looks around the room. "Wow, how did I get here?" Arzel: We sent Leon off... and were able to bring you back. Earendil: Ah, welcome back, Ayeye. Arzel: Where've you been? Where did I send you? Ayeye looks at the spear. "No, the spear brought me back, just like Zara said it would." Earendil: And from now on, let me try out my stupid ideas. Arzel: And... where did you get that spear? Arzel: Zara? Arzel collapses in a heap of confusion. Earendil: Who is Zara? Par tries to console Arzel. Arzel: This is just about enough to make me give up this teleportation magic. O_o Ayeye: Yeah, I was somewhere that was all black, it was like nowhere, it was wierd... And Zara was there, she said she was my ancestor! Ayeye: She gave me the spear. Camille puts a hand to her forehead. "You know, following you guys around just gets weirder and weirder." Arzel glances at Camille. "No one's making you come." Arzel oogles at Ayeye's story. "I had no idea my magic was strong enough to send someone so far away." Ayeye: Err... I have to go find someone... Camille glances to Arzel. "True. But if the Red Dragon is putting her faith in you guys... I'm just trying to figure out what she sees." Arzel pets Geint. "She's stuck with us. :)" Ayeye absentmindedly twirls the spear around. "I have to find Damon..." Camille smiles wanely. Earendil: We've been through more than you know. Do not underestimate us. Arzel: Damon? Arzel: Who is Damon, Ayeye? Ayeye frowns. "Dunno, but I know he can help me." Rein looks curiously at the spear. Arzel: Hmm... the world's a big place... and I don't know how many Damons there are. Ayeye continues in a quiet voice. "And he's a warlock..." Valina: Great... Arzel groans. Earendil: Well, there are good warlocks. Earendil: As few as they are, they do exist. Right, Par? Valina: ~sigh~ Hopefully this Damon will be good. Par nods slowly. "There are few of us, but we do exist." Arzel: Ya, but I'm sick of them... I'd be happy if I never saw another warlock in my life, Present Company accepted of course, Par. :) Ayeye continues in a even quieter voice, "A warlock of House Nissa..." Par smiles. "I'm not much of a warlock anymore though, being an outcast and all." Rein swallows nervously and looks around at the group edgily. Earendil: Now that is different, I have never heard of a "good" warlock from Nissa. Arzel: Nissa? There's a name I don't wanna hear again. :/ Valina still remains quiet on the situation. Ayeye lowers her head. "You don't have to go with me, you don't need me to complete your mission." Arzel: No Ayeye...you're stuck with us... we're all in this together. Valina sighs... Rein: Well... why do you... need to find him? Earendil: You have helped in my quest to become a Dragonmaster. I must, at least, help you with yours. Arzel: Anyway, it was my bungling that caused this, so I want to help you as much as I can. Ayeye smiles weakly. "He can tell me who I am..." Rein: ... Arzel: We all need answers to that question Ayeye... and you have all of us behind you. :) Ayeye: He's supposed to be around here somewhere, or back in... Arzel: Killith? Valina: Please... no. Ayeye nods. "Unfortunately." Valina sits down... Arzel is already on the floor. Arzel: How will we get back to Killith? Our gryphons were captured... unless Geint has the power to teleport us all like Canth did. Ayeye: He may be at House Flysse. Ayeye: The information was vague. Par shudders. "House Flysse again? We'd have to pass through there anyway to leave this place..." Valina really doesn't want to go back to Killith. Arzel sighs and lays back. Rein: Maybe we should just keep visiting the dragons and, ya know, if we happen to run into him... that sort of thing. Par: The black and white dragons remain. Valina: ... Par: I don't know where either of them are though. Arzel: Now we have 4 quests that I remember, find this warlock, make Ear a dragonmaster, get the Serpent Staff, and save T'lain. Earendil: Isn't the cave of the White Dragon all the way on Caldor Isle? Ayeye looks at Rein. "If you want to, go ahead, I know what I have to do." Valina begins to shead a tear... Earendil: Valina, what's wrong? Valina: ... Caldor... I don't want to go back. Par shakes his head. "We have to pass through Flysse's lands to get back to Shelladon. And with that in the warlocks' control, booking passage isn't going to be easy." Rein: Well... I was just saying... hmmm... Rein shakes his head. Valina: Not after what Gausuton did... Earendil: Don't worry, I'll be there to help you. Valina: There is nothing that can be done now... Valina: ~sigh~ Arzel: When we're ready to leave, tell me... I don't think I have anything else to add to this conversation. Par: We can debate on what to do as we go. Either way, we have to go through Flysse. Perhaps we'll meet Ayeye's warlock on the way. Arzel takes his book on teleportation out and starts to read the section about teleporting others. Valina: ~sigh~ Let's go... I guess there is no stopping destiny. Ayeye spins the spear around. "I'm ready." Arzel stands up, but continues to read his book. Ayeye taps the spear against the floor impatiently. Arzel: Well, let's get going... nothing left to do here. Valina wanders off with Arzel. Arzel starts to climb slowly down the stairs, still reading. Earendil follows suit. Kadan rubs the back of his head sheepishly, remembering the last encounter with Bane. GMRune: The party exits the laboratory and heads down the spire and outside. The turtle is still lying in the narrow strait; more or less ready to transport you back to the badlands around Flysse. Ayeye gets onto the turtle. Arzel: Well Kadan, you've been pretty silent this past while... no comments to add to our discussion. Valina willingly hops on the turtle. Arzel hops on the turtle. Earendil steps onto the turtle. Rein does likewise. GMRune: Everyone is now back on the turtle, who is still relaxing serenely on the strait's basin. Arzel sits down on the turtle. Arzel: How do we make it go? Par prods the turtle with his cane. "How did you make it go earlier?" Arzel taps on the shell. Arzel: Go, turtle! Go!!! Earendil: Valina used her beautiful voice I believe. Valina: ~sigh~ Must I do everything. GMRune: The turtle sends up little air bubbles through the water. Valina sings a lovely song. Kadan tries to sit as squarely on the center of the turtle as he can. GMRune: The turtle lifts itself and swims to the south, then southeast, towards where you found it. Arzel: Oh stop sucking up, Earendil. :P Earendil blushes despite himself. Valina doesn't even look at Earendil. Valina: ~sigh~ GMRune: The turtle seems to remember that there are people on its back this time and doesn't sink down too far into the water. Before long it reaches its former resting spot and settled back down along the shore to the east. Arzel says in a mock Earendil voice. "Valina used her beautiful voice I believe." *flutters eyelashes* Rein laughs. Valina walks off the turtle trying to ignore Arzel and Earendil. Ayeye steps off the turtle and on to the shore. "I just thought of something... how do all of you expect to get into the House?" Arzel smiles at Ear and steps off the turtle. Earendil walks behind Arzel and gives him a painful flick to the ear. Arzel: Sneakily. Kadan disembarks quickly, somewhat timid of the water. Par: I hope not "into" so much as "through". Though I suppose we always could fall down that hole again. Arzel g'ahs. Arzel: Hey 'bud' it was just some friendly razing. :) Ayeye: Couldn't we just go up to the front door? Arzel walks over to Ear and lightly hits him on the back. Earendil gives Arzel a stern look. "I'm not in the mood." Par: I don't know if I'd have the nerve to do that. Besides, some of the warlocks of House Flysse will recognize me. Geint is jostled, but is still asleep. The bush peeks at Geint from its spot in Ayeye's backpack. Arzel frowns. "Sorry Earendil, but if you don't have laughter, you don't have anything." Earendil: Laughter has been in short supply lately. Valina: Ya... Ayeye twirls the spear more while thinking, "How else could I find out if Damon's there? Sneaking in sounds like a horribly inefficient way to find him." Arzel: I don't know... of all the crappy things that have happened, I've been really happy for no apparent reason. GMRune: As the party heads north towards House Flysse you hear an angry feminine shout and sounds of magic-induced explosions. Valina: What the? Valina turns and looks. Rein covers his head. Arzel: I guess it's because I actually have friends now... Garreth was my only friend in Vane... him and the wyburns. Ayeye turns her head toward the sound. Earendil's hand quickly goes for his sword hilt. Arzel: What? Arzel looks around. GMRune: A battle starts coming into view as the badlands open up before you. A familiar young lady with orangish hair is fighting a small unit of warlocks and their creatures. GMRune: Her back is towards you, and the warlocks seem too intent on their prey to have noticed you. Arzel sighs. Valina goes to help without thinking about it. Arzel: I'm not in the mood for a fight. Arzel: Val! G'ah. Rein breaks after Val. Arzel goes after Val. Earendil: Come, we have to help. Earendil rushes forth. Valina: Come on! Don't you reconize her! Liana is in trouble here.. Ayeye runs toward the battle. GMRune: The party comes to Liana's defense. GMRune: -----rounds 1----- GMRune: targets: 3 Snapping Turtles in front, 3 Warlock Rangers in back Earendil gives Geint a good shake to wake her up. Rein runs behind Val and prepares a spell. "Time to try this out..." GMRune: Ayeye attacks Turtle #1 with her new spear! Ayeye spins the spear around a bit before stabbing it at the first turtle. GMRune: attack 1: *critical* 40 damage GMRune: attack 2: *critical* 47 damage GMRune: Kadan attacks Turtle #1! GMRune: attack 1: 126 damage GMRune: attack 2: 130 damage Kadan snarls as he rips through the hostile creatures. GMRune: Turtle #1 dies, shell crushed beneath the weight of Kadan's axe! GMRune: Geint attacks Turtle #2! GMRune: attack 1: 99 damage GMRune: attack 2: 103 damage GMRune: Earendil raises the Red Dragon Shield high and the fiery image of a long-eared red dragon appears just behind the party. After a moment it winks out of sight, leaving flaming meteors to rain down upon the warlocks and their creations! Kadan lurches backwards, aghast at the towering explosions of heat. Arzel: Ahh... heat... I like it Rein "gah!"'s Earendil stands firm, his face full of grim determination. GMRune: 165 damage to each Snapping Turtle! Turtle #2 dies! 145 damage to each warlock! Valina looks with determination. GMRune: The warlocks seem considerably taken aback. Kadan glares over to Earendil, speaking in a subdued tone. "Please... inform me... when you plan on doing that... again." Earendil: Um, sorry Kadan. I wasn't quite sure what affect that would have. GMRune: Turtle #3 attacks Camille! GMRune: attack 1: 30 damage GMRune: attack 2: 29 damage GMRune: Warlock #1 leaps into the air with his sword and smashes it down on Tarrant! GMRune: 86 damage! Kadan still wonders how a scrawny little magic- using chef developed such a thick hide. GMRune: Warlock #2 blurs and strikes at Arzel! Arzel: Egad. GMRune: 76 damage! GMRune: Warlock #3 leaps high and brings his sword to bear on Geint! GMRune: 181 damage! GMRune: Rein casts Convalescence Litany on Valina! GMRune: Valina heals continuously. GMRune: Camille attacks Turtle #3. GMRune: 30 damage GMRune: Valina brandishes her sword and sends waves of energy at all of her enemies! GMRune: 63 damage to the turtle and 58 damage to all the warlocks. Valina: :) GMRune: Arzel conjures up a wall of flame on the back row of warlocks! GMRune: 76 damage to each! GMRune: Par casts a sharp of ice at the last turtle! GMRune: 138 damage! GMRune: Turtle #3 dies! GMRune: Tarrant conjures up a row a shrubs to impale the warlocks! GMRune: 160 damage to each! GMRune: The warlocks all collapse! GMRune: ------victory!----- Kadan: Ouch! Erm... those are really... umm... nasty shrubs! Kadan spins around a few times, then thrusts his fist into the air triumphantly. Ayeye approaches the downed warlocks and looks for their symbol. GMRune: The party earns 514 XP, 216 MEXP, and 108 S. Arzel yawns. GMRune: Ayeye finds out they are wearing golden symbols; House Flysse's color. Kadan isn't quite surprised. Ayeye sighs, "Probably just some guards or something, let's continue." Earendil: Aren't we forgetting something? Are you alright, Ms. Liana? Liana gets up off the ground after the warlocks are slain. Kadan moves his head slightly to see if Liana is unharmed. Liana: Yes. Yes. Thank you. I'm fine. I'm just so glad I found you guys. Arzel: Found us? Something happening? Rein looks around for Par. Ayeye stabs the spear into the ground and leans against it. Liana: I've come all this way to talk to you because you won't be-LIEVE what's happened! Bad enough Vane's down in the gutter, but these guys from House Flysse are all over the place now! There's a virtual blockade running from here to to the Nanza Barrier... And get _this_ part. They're all out to stop YOU! Par is supporting himself with his wizard's cane. He still looks somewhat sick from his treatmen in Killith, but still awhole lot healthier. Ayeye: We know that they are all after the Dragonmaster. Liana: I tried rushing out to warn you as soon as the movement started. But I got delayed so much in the mountains! I thought I'd never see daylight again! Earendil: After everything we've been doing lately, I am not suprised. Kadan gulps. Kadan: I suppose it was inevitable we could only maintain our low profile for a short time. Earendil: It is more likely that my sister is after me. Rein: I knew we were popular, but this... Geint wakes up from her sleepy stance she's been in. Arzel: The warlocks have finaly took the step I feared the most. Geint: ... Valina: Wha? Arzel: There's enough of them to cover everyway out of here... Geint sighs. Earendil: Our path is now set it seems. None of us can leave it. Ayeye: I have to get to House Flysse anyway. If I'm too late, I'll have to go back to... that place... Liana: I don't know how to get back through them. You can't use the roads... Arzel: They can squish us like a bug, we can't take on that many warlocks. Valina: ... I don't like this. Ayeye: Why do we have to take them on? Arzel: There's no way around. Arzel: And my magic isn't strong enough to take us away... you've experienced that first hand, Ayeye. Geint: What we need to do is make you a dragonmaster, Earendil...and FAST. Liana: I think if you're lucky, you might avoid them off the roads. But with those quicken steeds of theirs, if they see you, you're caught. Earendil: Even as Dragonmaster, I can't take on the entire warlock army. Geint: I know... I know... Valina: But you will have more power... Geint: But it helps a heck of a lot more..... Ayeye: I don't care, I have to get there, with or without all of you... Ayeye starts walking toward House Flysse. Kadan looks concerned for a moment. "Ayeye... no... you can't go somewhere that dangerous alone." Liana: Lord Bane is away from Flysse right now, so I've heard. But the warlocks patrollers of House Flysse are the best trackers on Lunar. Liana: One of Bane's top hunters is currently in charge of the land. Earendil sees Ayeye walking away and murmurs, "Now is not the time for rash decisions." Geint mutters. Geint glides around agitated above everyone. Rein: Well, it's kind of a cool idea... while they're out wandering the world looking for us, we show up the last place they'd look... Par nods. "There is also Lady Jera, if we manage to get a hold of her." Geint: Hmm...... well..... I don't know.... Liana: Are you guys really serious about just marching up to House Flysse? Kadan: If we go, we all go together... it's too well guarded. Valina sighs. Arzel glances at Liana. "Yes...apparently we are." Geint can't belive this! Geint: How..... What are we gonna do when we get there? =b Rein: Ooh... good question. Par: We get lucky? Earendil: At least I have to go. I told her that I would help her in her quest and I can't back out of my word. Valina: Can we rely on luck? Par: I don't know. But we may have to. Geint sighs. Liana: I guess if you're going, I'll come too. The way back to Vane is closed off for me as well, until you guys punch in an opening for yourselves. Valina: Oh boy... another surprise entrace for us! Kadan smacks his fist into his palm. "Heh. I guess we'll end up doing that soon enough." Kadan says casually, almost as in afterthought. "How do you suppose Mileria and Elron are doing?" Camille: If you guys can do it... Geint flies to Earendil's shoulder and sighs. Geint: I don't like this. =b Earendil: Let's hope they're are still suspended in those cylinders. Earendil: Neither do I, but it is duty that must be done. Par: As long as they live, there is hope. GMRune: The party sets off to the north with Liana and it's not long before your road ends in the first blockade. GMRune: -------end session------
