Lunar: Magic Empire Session 22 Log ============================================================ Cast of Characters: Rune as "GM/Narrator, Par, the bush, Leon, ~Valina" Seath as "Earendil" GORN as "Rein" Hahn as "Kadan" Aes as "Valina" Mia Ausa as "Geint" SOLaike as "Tarrant" Dyne as "Arzel" Ayeye as "Ayeye" ============================================================ GMRune: ------game on------ GMRune: The group of you reach the foothills of the Nanza Barrier, slightly west of where the manors of House Banshee were clustered on you last visit here. The mountains rise impossibly high and the air is chill. Rein rubs his arms to try to get out the chill. GMRune: Somehow, the group of you will have to pass through the mountains to get to the Red Dragon Cave and the old sage's spire on the other side. GMRune: The path you are following begins to narrow and almost fade away as though it hasn't been used for a long time and the plant growth is once again beginning to cover the bare earth. Tarrant: Plants.. That is a good sign.. GMRune: Finally the bare rock of the mountains before you block all way around. A single dark opening yawns before you. It stands roughly nine feet high and fourteen wide in a rough semicircluar shape. Ayeye: Is this your cave? Geint: Uh uh. Geint: This just takes us to the Nanza barrier. Ayeye: Oh, we don't want to go there, do we? Par: Don't you mean "through", Geint? Earendil: Oh joy, another dank cave. Geint: Well, you usually go through a cave... Rein: Do you know the way through, Geint? Arzel shakes his head and looks unhappily at his burnt hood. Tarrant: Let's just go through the cave... It can't be that bad... Besides I am afraid of heights.. Geint: Well, I DO know my way through. Geint: This is getting close to home. Ayeye: How dangerous is it? Geint: Not anything we can't handle. Kadan: B'ah... climbing a mountain is no challenge for me! Tarrant: Perhaps I can make a vine rope to assist in climbing... Geint: I wish I was big enough to fly people! Ayeye: Kadan, since the, er, dragon knows the way through, we should probably use the cave. It would be faster. Leon looks up... and up... and up. "We really gonna climb?" Earendil: Alright, it's either the mountain or the cave, even though the mountain would be a good change, the cave is probably safer. Kadan smirks at Ayeye. "Aww... I suppose. No use breaking all these wimps' legs, right?" Rein: Seems to me that it might be kinda tough for Leon do make the mountain trek... Geint: I could carry HIM. Rein: Oh, that's.. true.. but I bet the cave would still be faster. Geint: Not the rest of you. Maybe a really small one of you, and that's it. Geint: I like caves! Earendil: Geint, are you 100% certain you know the way through the cave? Geint: Course! But we may run into monsters on the way! Arzel: Isn't the path OVER the Nanza Barrier almost impossible to pass? Isn't that why the cave is there? Kadan: Monsters? P'ah... Par: If we still had the wyburns we could fly over it... Earendil: The cave it is then, we'd probably get lost over the mountains. Geint: I dunno. I always took the cave. Ayeye: Almost impossible isn't good enough, we could make it. Geint: But we don't sooo...... Arzel: Ya, but we don't Par, so we don't have that option. Geint looks to the cave. GMRune: The cave looks very dark. Earendil: We can stay here arguing all day, let's just go. Geint flies up to it. "Weeelll?" Geint: C'mon! Ayeye: Lead on, Geint. GMRune: The party follows Geint into the cave. It is quite dark inside. Geint: =D Tarrant: Let's just go through the cave.. Far weaker parties have made it through.. Earendil: Wait, before we run into any monsters, let's get healed. Earendil uses his Jasmine and Herb. Tarrant goes to heal Geint. GMRune: Earendil regains 79 hp. Kadan suddenly notices he's horribly injured. GMRune: Geint gains 52 hp. Rein: Is everyone injured? Maybe I should Heal Aura. Arzel: I'm fine. :) Ayeye: No, I'm fine. Earendil: I'm okay over here. Rein: Well, I can do some healing, in any case..... who needs it? Geint: . . . . Kadan is bleeding horribly. Tarrant hurries over to Kadan and heals him. GMRune: Kadan gains 50 hp! Kadan hates dying even more than magic. Kadan: I... I've learned recently about the importance of my surivival. Rein: Anyone? Rein: How's Val? ~Valina: I think I'm fine, thank you! Ayeye: If everyone's ready, Geint, lead us through the cave...please. Geint: =) Geint continues. GMRune: The cave gets dark very quickly. It's not long before all light from the opening is obscured and you are in utter blackness. Earendil falls back to Leon as he is walking. "Hey kid." Ayeye: We forgot the torch again, didn't we? Geint searches the ground for sticks. Geint: If I can find a stick I could light it up. GMRune: Geint finds something rough and thin. Geint lights it up. GMRune: A whoosh sound erupts as Geint breathes a gout of flame. But oddly enough, the darkness does not light up with the energy of her fiery breath. Rein: We're ready, Geint, it's dark in here. Geint: I tried... Ayeye: Try again. GMRune: You all can feel the remnant heat from Geint's fire. Geint: ..uhhh guys.... Geint: I don't think that was a stick. Rein: Hmmm.... anyone got sonar? Kadan steps away from Geint. Tarrant: Your tail? Earendil: Nobody move! We can't risk getting lost. Ayeye: Let me guess, we're in big trouble. Par: Er... Geint. If it's not a stick. Then what IS it? Geint: I don't know!! Earendil pulls out his starlight to see if it glimmers. GMRune: The starlight doesn't glimmer. Earendil can't see a thing. Geint just breaths into the air enough to try and get a glimpse. GMRune: Nothing happens. Geint's flames don't even show in the darkness. Earendil: Well, looks like light is swallowed up by this cave. We're blind. Geint: What the heck?? Par: I take this isn't normal then. Kadan: Wait... stick together... Ayeye: I would hope not. Geint: Umm... Geint: This thing feels weird. Ayeye: Can you still get us through? Kadan steps away from the group. "Everyone stand back..." Geint: I don't know. I think I can, but I'll probobly bump into walls. =b Earendil: Kadan, don't go too far. Kadan is heard fiddling with his mask. Kadan grunts, almost in pain. Geint gives the stick to Earendil to see if he knows what it is then watches Kadan. Kadan is heard bumping into the back wall, a wild snarl coming from him. Arzel: Maybe we should go over... GMRune: Geint can't see Kadan. Geint can't see anything. =) Kadan pants and breathes heavily. Kadan speaks in a deep whisper. "Follow..." Arzel: How do we follow what we can't see? Earendil gropes for the stick-thing but doesn't get it. Rein: Maybe we should tie ourselves together so we don't lose anyone Geint: ...Stuck with the stick.... GMRune: You see a pair of vague red eyes in Kadan's direction. Geint: Oh yay. Rein: Is that Kadan? Geint: Wow! I wonder how he broke the light problem thingy we're having. Earendil: Well, he is a Shadowcat, maybe they can do those type of things. Ayeye: Maybe cats can see beyond light... Kadan: Geint... drop that arm bone. It won't work. Geint: Well, I guess the fact he's a SHADOW cat... Geint drops it. Geint: Eeewwwww..... Leon: Arm bone? Ew... Rein covers Leon's eyes. Rein: Just kidding. Earendil starts walking toward the red eyes. Leon shuffles along, trying to avoid where Geint's voice was so he doesn't touch the arm bone. Kadan moves toward a passage to the left, the red eyes following him... Arzel attempts to follow Kadan. Tarrant tries to follow the group the best he can... Geint swoops up and then a loud *THUMP* is heard. Geint: *OoOwww* Par: Er... Geint? Maybe you should ride on someone's shoulder. Ayeye: Kadan, do you know how to get through this cave? Rein tries his best to keep his footing in the dark. Geint swoops down to where Kadan's eyes are and manages to find his shoulder. Geint: Now tell me what you see. Kadan does not speak, the red eyes peridocially flashing back to the group. Geint: Maybe I can guide like this. =) Geint: . . . . . Geint: Maybe now. Geint: << not >> GMRune: The party soon enters an open-aired area. The air is chill around you and you hear some dripping sounds. Geint: Hmmmm... Kadan moves forward, and sloshing footsteps are heard. Geint: There USED to be a chamber here with a really big lake in it..... is this it? Rein: Be careful, Kadan... you don't know what's in there... Earendil: Or how deep it is. Geint: Kadan, can you swim while entranced? Kadan grumbles lowly. "Stay." Ayeye whispers, "I don't like it when he wears that mask." The bush rustles and makes a huffing sound in agreement. Kadan's eyes are seen kneeling down, closer to the water. Leon squirms, making little sloshing sounds near the edge of the water. Earendil: (to no one in particular) What's he doing? Geint: Leon... Kadan is heard battering something beneath the water. Leon: Geint, is it true that fish live in the water of caves? Geint: uhhmmm...well.. Kadan grunts, then stops battering the object. Geint: well... SOME do...... Geint: ..why? Leon: Cuz I felt something slimy next my leg... Geint: Then get away from there! Leon thrashes away! Leon: Waaahhh! Geint: AAAH!! Geint: Leon!! Leon splashes and disappears with a loud sploosh! Earendil: Kadan, get over here and help, Leon!! Geint: What happened?? Geint flies over to where the sploosh was. Kadan stands up, boldly sloshes over in the water and moves right up close to Ayeye. GMRune: A splashing arises, and you hear Leon call out. Geint tries to find Leon's hand. Kadan grunts. "You." and pushes a pair of clanky, cold metallic objects in Ayeye's hands. Geint: Leon!! Rein: Nobody cast any lightning spells! Leon accidentally smacks Geint! Ayeye takes the objects. "What are these?" Geint: OoOf Earendil pulls out his sword, but hesitates, "I don't want to risk hitting Leon. Kadan notices Leon, and quickly leaves Ayeye to attempt to pull him out. GMRune: Leon yelps. Geint tries again. Geint: C'mon, Leon!! Kadan gets a firm grip on the boy and snarls while trying to pull him out of the deeper end of the pool. GMRune: A bubbling sound emerges from Leon's location. Rein also moves out into the water, trolling in front of him with his staff. Geint: uh oh..... LEON!! Geint: .... Is he OK now, Kadan?? o_o GMRune: You hear a loud squeal and a giant thrashing from the lake. Tarrant: Leon look out! Kadan grunts and seems to pull harder, ignoring the sloshing water around his feet. Kadan picks up the boy and hurries to the shallow end of the water. GMRune: There's a loud thrash as something smacks against the surface of the water. Geint: !!!! Earendil: Everyone out of the water ASAP! Rein sloshes for the edge of the pool Arzel attempts to follow Rein. Earendil backs up the exact way he came. Par: Kadan! Is there a way out of here? Geint flies a little higher, but still keeps an eye on Kadan's eyes. Kadan's eyes are seen moving toward the tunnel that led them into this chamber. GMRune: Kadan leads the group from the lake-filled chamber and back into the warmer confines of the tunnel. Leon clings tightly to Kadan, shivering. Geint: ...Leon? Rein: Geez, that was lucky. Leon: I think I'm okay, Geint... Geint makes a tiny, cute, sigh of relief. ;) Earendil: Is across the lake the only way out? Geint: . . . . Geint: *sigh* Geint: Yea... it is.. Geint: Why it's so dark I don't know. Rein: Well... we can pull out the lightning spells now, right? Rein: That's assuming magic works in here... Kadan's eyes are seen moving past the left tunnel, and towards a decline ahead. Ayeye: We're stuck in a cave that is absolutly dark, and we have to cross a lake? Did anyone bring a boat? Arzel: Tarrant has all his vines... Earendil: Did you? Ayeye: Maybe, but I can't see into the backpack to find out. Tarrant might be able to make a small canoe but it would suck up my magic and maybe take 2 at a time.. GMRune: The path beneath you gets a somewhat steeper as you follow Kadan. Earendil: Kadan, where are we going? Kadan glances back occasionally in a panting silence, then steadily moves forward. Par: I *hope* he knows what he's doing... Geint: Me too... GMRune: You see Kadan pause someplace slightly ahead of you. Ayeye: Don't worry, he almost always knows what he's doing. Geint: What's up? Arzel: Almost... Ayeye: Like I said, he doesn't seem to be himself while wearing the mask. I don't like it... Kadan pauses for a moment and blinks. "Jim...?" Rein: Jim? Kadan's eyes are seen moving to the left, then forward again, as if circumventing something. Geint: Jim... Bones.... this is getting weird... Tarrant: Take off that mask...It is corrupting you. GMRune: Rein walks around and Earendil smacks into a rock wall. Earendil: Ouch, dammit! GMRune: The rest of the party pretty much makes it around okay. :) Earendil feels something like a wooden block above his head Earendil: I think I bumped into something Arzel: Probably the wall, Ear. Earendil: It's some sort of wooden block, kind of rectangular. Rein: Wait for Ear, Kadan. Geint: Wood? Earendil tries pushing on the block. GMRune: The hunk of wood doesn't move. Earendil: Some good this thing is other than hitting me in the head. Par: Shall we go on then? Rein: Yes, let's. Earendil pounds on the block one more time. "Yes, might as well go." GMRune: The party moves on, Earendil carefully skirting the rock wall. GMRune: The block falls down on Earendil's head. *thunk!* Earendil falls to the ground. "uhhh. oooo." *** Signoff: SuNFiRe (Leaving) Par: You okay, Ear? Earendil in a dazed voice. "But mommy, I don't want to go to school today." Tarrant: Hey, Earendil, you need a little healing... Or maybe a hard hat... Earendil climbs back up rubbing his head. "I'll be fine, let's go." GMRune: The party continues along... GMRune: You hear an eerie wailing sound coming from somewhere ahead of you. It sounds almost like the wind, but there is a darker note to it. Kadan moves up a slight incline, then halts. Kadan makes a faint sniffing sound, then darts toward a left branching. GMRune: The air becomes noticeably colder as you progress. But this cold isn't the simple cold of being in a windy cavern. It seems to be getting icy in here. Earendil wraps his cloak around himself tighter. GMRune: The wailing increases slightly. You seem to be drawing nearer to it. Rein: Was it always this cold, Geint? Kadan moves forward more slowly. Geint: I don't know. This cave gets weirder and weirder every time I travel it. GMRune: The footing starts getting treacherous beneath you. There is definately something slippry beneath you all. GMRune: You hear a thunk from Tarrant's position. Rein moves in front of Leon and grips his staff tightly Earendil uses his sword like a staff making sure he doesn't fall again. Ayeye mumbles, "I hate the dark, I hate the dark, I hate the dark..." Earendil hears the thunk. "Tarrant, if it feels like a wooden block, leave it alone." Arzel inches along cautiously. Kadan stops, then moves forward very apprehensively Par: What is it, Kadan? Kadan steps forward and taps his foot on the ice. Rein: Man, that sound is annoying... Leon slips a little bit and clings on to Rein for support. Rein slings Leon up on his back. Tarrant feels something on the back of his leg. GMRune: A loud squawk echoes down the tunnel from up ahead. Kadan's eyes appear to take a confrontational stance at the squawking. Tarrant notices there is a big, fat leech thirsting on his leg. GMRune: Although Kadan isn't moving forward any more, the wailing draw nearer. Tarrant: Someone want to get this leech off me? Earendil: Leech, what leech? Ayeye: Leeches, this just keeps getting better. Rein checks his footing and holds his staff before him, listening intently to the approaching sound Arzel: Well, leaches don't like fire. GMRune: A tapping sound as of something sharp clicks towards you across the ice. Kadan growls and a faint glimmer of a gold axe- shaped spark outline appears in front of him for a brief moment. GMRune: The wailing suddenly increases, and the group is blasted by a sudden wave of cold! Geint: This is a bit different than the last time I'd been here.....Ok, let's face it... THIS BLOWS. GMRune: The clicking sound is almost up to Kadan by now. Rein stands up straight, shielding Leon from the cold wave. Leon: Umm... What's that ahead of us? Kadan: Follow my movements... they are approaching... Leon: Is it a monster...? Rein: C-cold Rein: shh.... Tarrant pulls his robe tightly around him as the wind picks up. Rein: Hold on tight, Leon Leon: It's cold! Leon hugs on to Rein! GMRune: ------combat!---- GMRune: targets: ----- front row ------ back row Kadan attempts to marshall the group's movements into a more advantageous position. Kadan: Strike toward the cold! Rein: We need a gameplan, Kadan. GMRune: Kadan uses Surround! Earendil: Just listen to Kadan, its our only chance Tarrant: Anyone have some fire magic to light the situation? GMRune: Kadan, Ayeye, Earendil, Geint, and Par appear behind the enemy back row! Geint: Yea, and I tried that. Kadan: Tarrant, Rein, Valina, and Arzel: Strike toward the air... The others follow me around to their rear. Tarrant: Yes sounds like a good plan to me... Kadan hopes Leon conjures up some Dragon Cannon or something... GMRune: Ayeye claws at something chilly! Earendil feels a blast of flame go past his head. "Geint!" GMRune: Earendil dashes forward and quickly slashes at something chilly! Tarrant: Earendil, today is not your lucky day... Rein swings Leon down and tries to determine who needs healing. GMRune: Arzel is no longer stoned. Arzel: I shure wonder why Geint. Earendil wasn't hit once during the battle. "This is a first." Geint: . . . . . Arzel: It's really no fun being stone! Tarrant has the strange urge to slurp someone. ~Valina: Could you heal me, Rein? GMRune: Tarrant turns back into a human. Geint: You were stone?!?! Geint: AHH!! Why does this all have to be so...so......MEAN?!?! Earendil: What do you mean by "mean"? Rein heal litanies Val. Geint: This whole cave was not a nice place. =b Geint: Honestly guys! It wasn't always like that! GMRune: Valina gains 36 hp. Rein: More? GMRune: Par sighs. "Well, it's not your fault, Geint. Try not to worry about it too much." ~Valina: I think it's enough. Geint: ...Can I have a little heal? Tarrant heals Geint. GMRune: Geint gains 52 hp. Geint: =) Leon tries petting the little air bunny, but he can't find her in the dark. Tarrant: Hey, that's me your petting buddy... GMRune: Now that the monsters are dead, the air is getting closer back to normal cave temperature. Kadan cautiously moves ahead. GMRune: The party again follows Kadan. As you go, the footing becomes easier, and the ice disappears from beneath your feet. You can walk without worry of slipping now. Kadan's eyes come to a brief pause. Par wonders what is it now. GMRune: Kadan seems to be looking downward at something. Kadan is seen kneeling and a grinding of motion is heard beneath him. Earendil: Kadan? GMRune: Something rumbles in the ground beneath you, and suddenly the entire floor beneath the party drops out from under you! Tarrant follows Kadan's eyes as he kneels on the ground. GMRune: Everyone falls down a looooong dark hole! Tarrant: Whooaaa!! Earendil: Iiiieeeee! GMRune: The fall goes on for quite a while. You feel a slight curving beneath you, and realize that you are on some sort of slide! Geint: Eepp! GMRune: It slopes ever so slightly, bringing your fall, if not your momentum, under control. A light is seen rushing up ahead! Geint: ...The light! Geint: ...I wonder why that cave was so dark. =( GMRune: The party gets spat out of the shaft (which is some seven feet above the floor beneath you) and crash on to the stone floor of a large squarish chamber. Geint: Ack!! Who's on me? Rein: Great Althena... Leon squirms, having made a semi-safe landing on top of Rein. Geint crawls out. Earendil gets up and covers his eyes until they adjust to the light. GMRune: The huge hall appears to have been hewn out of the rock by some ancient group of mortals. Glowing bulbs of light line the walls, providing light for you all. Rein: It's so bright! Ayeye stands up and brushes herself off. "Finally, light!" Kadan gets up and shakes his head. GMRune: There is a single small door at the far end of the chamber. Ayeye looks around the room, "Geint, do you remember this place?" Geint: ..... Arzel blinks. Rein: Did you know this was here, Kadan? Geint: I didn't even know it was here. I don't think.... I don't REMEMBER it. Earendil heads for the door. "Shall we?" Par: Might as well... Ayeye opens the door. "Well then, I guess we go forward." Rein takes another look around the hall. GMRune: Ayeye finds a small tunnel beyond the doorway. It is cut in a meticulously rectangular fashion, lending a very blocky look to the entire path. Ayeye walks down the tunnel. GMRune: The party follows Ayeye done the tunnel. It twists and turns, every now and then, always changing direction at a ninety degree angle. GMRune: Finally, the hall enlarges to the point where it ends at a giant set of gold-rimmed double doors. Great rings hang from their centers from the mouths of lions carved in relief. Geint: ....the hell.... Earendil: Curiouser and curiouser. Leon: The hell? Ayeye: I hope they don't come to life... Earendil: Geint, don't corrupt the kid Par: They're just the heads though.... Geint: ...don't say that, Ayeye. Geint oopses. =b Ayeye trys to open the big double doors. Geint sits on Leon's shoulder and tries to be nice. =) Leon picks up Geint and hugs the lil' dragon! GMRune: There don't appear to be any hinges to the doors. Geint: =) GMRune: Ayeye pushes on the doors. They waver a bit, but she can't seem to get them open. Kadan presses against the doors to assist. Ayeye keeps pushing. GMRune: The doors swing wide open! GMRune: A great hall appears before you. And at the far end, a giant tapestry hangs. GMRune: It reads: "Welcome to the Gym of Increased Muscle Strength". GMRune: -----session end------
