But I'll ask them to log just in case. *Kadan* *Kadan* Kadan closes his eyes and admires the slight breeze. *Kadan* Kadan takes a deep breath and examines the road ahead, spotting the small community up ahead. --> Kadan As you approach the town, the weather is amiable and pleasant. However you know that the rumors a magical staff's location in this city are pretty accurate. *Kadan* Kadan eyes the city with an almost accusatory squint. --> Kadan It is said to be hidden beneath a ring of stone slabs in the center of town. *Kadan* Kadan thinks about his current operation, and idly wishes his comrades from the last hunt were with him now. *Kadan* Kadan warily approaches the modest gates to the town, perhaps a bit unnecessarily stealthy and cautious. *Kadan* Kadan feels the back of his belt, reassuring the presence of his weapon. --> Kadan You see the gates are unguarded except for a single youth who appears to be very bored. --> Arzel <> Your travels have brought you to the small town of Mertyl. You are currently on the road towards the town. *Kadan* Kadan immediately switches into tactic mode. *Kadan* Kadan tries to analyze the disposition and abilities of the youth. *Arzel* I keep walking towards the town --> Kadan The youth eyes you and his lids are low, but it appears to be more from fatigue than suspicion. *Kadan* Kadan decides that this situation requires little to no careful direction. --> Arzel As you get closer, you notice a youth guarding the town gates, and a much larger man nearby. *Arzel* Are the gates closed? *Kadan* Kadan staunchly marches up the path and stops a few paces from the boy. "Ho there, lad. And by what name does this good city go by?" --> Arzel No, they're open. *Arzel* I continue towards them --> Kadan Youth: This is the town of Mertyl. --> Tarrant <> You've heard of a powerful magic staff in the small town of Mertyl. "And would you have any misgivings about my entering?" --> Tarrant Oops! It's the small town of Mertyl. Famous for it's wine for the most part. --> Kadan Youth: Um, no sir! If you wish to enter, you may certainly do so. I'm merely here to keep track of who enters and leaves. *Tarrant* Tarrant looks over at the burly man *Kadan* Kadan eyes the youth with a new interest. "And who do you report to?" --> Kadan You see a traveler come from around the outside walls of the town and look at you. --> Kadan Youth: I report it to the town elders, of course. --> Arzel You see a man come from around the outside walls and look at the large man near the youth. *Kadan* Are they your masters? Are you paid for the service? Can you leave whenever you wish? --> Kadan Youth: Hey, look! I'm just doing my job! They aren't my master or anything. Not like the warlocks at any rate. I'm not paid, but I have lots of freedom to do what I want! *Arzel* I keep walking towards the gates --> Arzel The youth seems rather upset at what the man is asking him. *Kadan* Kadan tries to appear dominating to make his questioning more intimidating than annoying. --> Tarrant The youth guarding the gates is rather flustered from what the burly man is asking him. *Arzel* Arzel decides its no buisnes of his and keeps walking towards the town entrance --> Kadan The youth swallows hard. So what if there is a staff? What would you do with it? *Arzel* <> --> Arzel <> *Kadan* I am but a humble tourist. Arzel: Oh? why is that? GMRune: The man brushes back some long white hair, but you notice his face is quite youthful. GMRune: The staff was sealed away centuries ago. *Kadan* Kadan nonchalantly ducks into an alley between an inn and a residence, eyeing the center of town suspiciously, taking extreme care to observe every minor detail. GMRune: Common belief is that it was by magic. Arzel: hummm --> kadan You notice that there appear to be an abundance of cats in the alleyways, although the alleys themselves are meticulously clean. Tarrant: Heh that will teach you to mess with us Arzel looks at the liquid stone --> Kadan The area is silent once more. GMRune: The stone trickles back into place and the griffon carving is no longer moving. Tarrant: Now where is that magical staff? Arzel: COME BACK HERE YOU COWARD!!!!! --> tarrant You get the disctinct feeling he's still around here somewhere. Tarrant: He couldnt have gone far --> Kadan You can hear all their yelling about calling you a coward. Arzel: I say we go after him! *Kadan* Kadan ignores their insults, considering all magic users sub-human. *Kadan* Kadan tries to remain perfectly still, paralyzed with either hatred or fear; he is not sure. Arzel: Tarrant? what do you say? --> Kadan You hear a disembodied roar coming from behind you. It seems to be heading towards the circle of slabs. Tarrant: Lets get the staff first Arzel looks to the center Tarrant: Lets get that staff it has to be under one of these slabs GMRune: A roaring sound seems to be approaching the town circle and the slabs of stone. *Kadan* Kadan swiftly whips around, holding his axe vertically in front of him. "Who's there?!" Arzel looks at the slabs and the carvings Arzel: whats that noise? Tarrant: Sounds like a uh.. Tarrant: I guess that is the best straiety Tarrant slowly retrets *Kadan* Kadan growls, and wonders to himself if this might actually be Killith. Arzel: Umm, Tarrant lets go Arzel starts to leave at a quick pase GMRune: The roaring sound nears, and is virtually at the circle now. *Kadan* These growls, these beasts... that accursed staff must be causing it all! Tarrant quickly retreats Arzel runs away with Tarrant *Kadan* Kadan realizes that he must retrieve the staff before the hideous magic users find it for their nefarious purposes. Kadan dashes out of a nearby dark alley, rushing straight for the center of the stones. "Foul beasts, taste my blade! I shall find that staff!" Tarrant: he is going to need our help lets go save his sorry butt Arzel looks to Tarrant "should we help him?" Arzel: lets go Kadan: Stand back, you foul practitioners of evil, it is my duty to get that staff before you do! Come, magical beasts of the underworld! I challenge you! Kadan stands firmly, not disoriented by the air. GMRune: The lion carving's jaws roar silently in response to the audible one. Arzel listens to what Kadan says Arzel stops and stays out of the battle Arzel: If he doesn't want my help I won't help! Kadan is careful to keep his distance from Arzel and Tarrant, concentrating on the lion figure. GMRune: And a blue beam of light, arcs around the corner from where Arzel and Tarrant originally came from and strikes the lion carving! GMRune: The lion roars, voice and stone joining together and the stone beast begins to pulls itself from the slab beneath it. Arzel: Tarrant! its that damn pendent that making them attack!
