GENE LOVES JEZEBEL

On Heavenly Bodies, the first release on their new label, SAVAGE Records, Gene Loves Jezebel return with an edge that could only be achieved after years of evolution as a musical unit. As pioneers of the alternative music scene, the band seizes the spotlight in the 90’s with a record that captures the creative spark and musicianship that has become the band’s trademark.

“Heavenly Bodies is the record we have always wanted to make,” says lead vocalist/songwriter Jay Aston. “SAVAGE let us make the album our way, which has really benefited the record. It is our most complete work and captures the essence and chemistry that is Gene Loves Jezebel."

That “essence and chemistry” come together in the powerful combination of Jay Aston’s haunting vocals, James Stevenson’s stinging guitar and the steady rhythm section of bassist Peter Rizzo and drummer Robert Adam.

“This is the strongest the band has ever been musically,” states James. “We are four minds in the same place with the same common goal which has resulted in more creative freedom.”

Heavenly Bodies showcases the band’s growth as a musical entity. The songs on the record paint a musical tapestry inspired by the physical, the seductive, the mystical. Each song has its own personality and vibrancy yet together they represent a cohesive body of work. The potent songwriting marriage of Aston’s poetic lyrics and James’ biting guitar hooks is evident on the ethereal “Any Anxious Color,” the stirring “Voice in the Dark,” and the powerful “Wild Horse.”

Slated for release in January of 1993, Heavenly Bodies will be preceded by the October 1992 release of a 5 song EP titled “Josephina.” The EP features the moody title track, a tune written by Aston about unrequited love and loss.

Gene Loves Jezebel got their start in the Spring of 1982 when brothers Michael and Jay Aston left their native Porthcawl in South Wales to start a rock band in London. The band’s flamboyant stage presence and electrifying live shows quickly earned them a place as one of the most influential rock bands to emerge in the mid-80’s. The success of their third LP, Discover, in 1986, catapulted the band into the international spotlight. The first single and video off the LP “Heartache” made the band the sweethearts of MTV. The next single, “Desire,” went all the way to #7 on the Billboard dance chart and earned them nominations for three American Video Awards.
