Gene Loves Jezebel, "Josephina" EP (SAVAGE RECORDS) It's been nearly three years since Gene Loves Jezebel issued their "Kiss Of Life" album, itself somewhat of a rebirth that found Jay Aston to be the lone founding twin in residence. Cut loose from the Geffen roster a year later, the band reportedly signed a new deal with Atlantic then quietly faded from view. Even though new material failed to appear, they toured here in The States and eventually it was learned that the supposed Atlantic contract was null and void. Finally the band has surfaced with Jay leading long-time companions Pete Rizzo (drums), guitarist James Stevenson (at one time a member of Generation X) and newcomer Robert Adam. The upstart Savage label will be issuing their long awaited "Heavenly Bodies" album, and "Josephina" serves as a perfect reacquaintance to their trademark of smoldering sex and wail. Production was turned over to old friend Peter Walsh, who previously drenched their dials on 1987's "The House Of Dolls" not to mention his multitude of outside credits - including Simple Minds, China Crisis and Peter Gabriel, to name but a few. This advance EP gives us two mixes (both are worthy) of "Josephina," as well as a pair of non-LP tracks - "Tomorrow's Colours" and "Life Without Love." Brother Michael has yet to surface, but this new chapter is already airing at KKDJ. (MM)
