The Trash Collection

The trash at the ramp with Theresa. That is a television set on top. All those balls and most of this trash came down that small stream from Maysville. It runs through a very deep ditch along a street on the west side of
Maysville and under Rte 58 and empties into Lake #2.

A second life for some of the balls.

The White Oak River under Route 17. The river has dropped down about six feet. The White Oak Family Campground is no longer flooded. It makes for excellent paddling at this level if you can make it.

We have sent the following to the Commissioners of Jones, Onslow and
Carteret Counties and also to the press.
"We don't need a Landfill, folks. We have the White Oak River and it is
free to discard your trash here! Or any other creek or river or roadside
ditch!

Ernesto flushed out a very small stream that originates in Maysville and
brought a large percentage of this trash into the White Oak River where
it runs through eight of the nine beautiful Quarry Lakes.
This was picked up on the shores of the first six lakes by eleven
dedicated people who want our waters to be clean. As you can see we had to go back to the ramp and unload. We then paddled back to join the
others who were cleaning up the last three lakes. We even went a short
way down the White Oak River too.

We need eleven thousand folks across our State to pick up wherever you live.
This was the very first day of our Governor's Declaration of CLEAN SWEEP from September 16th to the 30th. Please participate and pick up litter wherever you are.
Remember, "If no one litters, there will be no litter." That's all it
takes. Please do your part.

This Wednesday the 20th of September we will meet at 9:00 AM at the
bridge over The Newport River on Nine Mile Road. We unload our boats there and set the shuttle up on Old Route 70 at The Wildlife Ramp in Newport.
This section of the Newport River has just been desnagged of all blown
down and fallen trees by our very own Gary Scruggs and over 60 other
Newport residents and Carteret County officials with $90,000 in grant
money from the N. C. Divison of Water Resources. We thank you all for
this fine work.
We will pick up all trash and litter as we paddle as usual. Please join
us if you can.
On Saturday the 23rd we have permission to paddle Stones Creek in Camp Lejeune. Elmer
