    Past events:

Anza Borrego

Often in January, we take a three day biking trip to the Anza Borrego desert.  We take this in preparation for our biking trip to Death Valley.  We start out right after breakfast and continue until we have reached an adequate camping area, or as long as light permits.  The van takes all the gear two to three miles down the road and the group bike towards it.  We stop at the van for water and for everyone to catch up, and then we're off again.  The last trip, we biked over fifty miles.

Death Valley

We set up camp at Stovepipe Wells and stay there.  We bike to Dante's View and then to furnace creek the first day.  The change in altitude goes from 5000 feet to 0, in a distance of only 50 miles.  We then visit a mining ghost town in Rhyolite Nevada and bike to Titus Canyon.  Finally, we go see Scottie's Castle and return to Stovepipe Wells.   We are usually riding on dirt trails.  On our last trip, there was quite a bit of snow at the charcoal kilns.

Colorado River

We usually begin our trek at Palaverde and Kayak for three days, camping along the way.   Each of us carries our own personal gear in our kayak.  A Boston whaler travels along the river with us carrying the patrol boxes, tents, and food.  We explore small lakes along the way, and beach ourselves on sandbars to have lunch, or to go swimming.  We end our trip at Squaw Lake, 53 miles from where we began.

Catalina

We have taken this trip for the past four years.  We usually leave sometime in the afternoon and motor/sail through the night to get to the island early in the afternoon the next day.  We use the San Diego Yacht Club beach campsite at Whites Landing and can do pretty much as we please.  We  go swimming or snorkeling, hike some of the trails, go walk around the town, or explore the beach.  This and the river are our two most popular trips.

Other Events

In years past the Sea Scouts have worked meals at the Wooden Boat Festival - a grand event.

We attend the scout fair every year and always have a booth in the Exploring / Venturing section.

Often, we join our friends the Scuzbums for a messabout.  This gives us a chance to use a variety of different boats and meet people who share common interests.
