3 On Fire | Kerry's Page | My FanFic | Because of You | New Beginings

The party, as it turns out, went great. Hilary hung out with Greg’s little sisters and talked to old friends of her mother. She heard over and over how much older she has gotten since she was 3 and how pretty she was. She got a feeling like she was wanted there.

While Hilary was talking to people, Greg was standing afar watching her. Whenever she smiled, he smiled too. Tim, A friend of Mr. Raposo approached Greg.

“Got your eye on her? She’s a cute one.” Tim laughed.

“Hilary? Oh, naw. It never worked out…”

“Really? That’s surprising,” Tim smiled, “You two would go well. She’s a good catch for you. Ok, well just know that you have a great girl in front of you, don’t be blind.” Tim he walked away.

A great girl in front of me, don’t be blind. Yeah Tim, if it were only that easy.

After the party and most of the guests went home, Hilary was up stairs reading magazines in Amanda’s room with her.

“Ok girly, I’m going to find Greg; I’ll see you later though!”

“Alrighty, by Hil!” she walked into the hall and Greg’s bedroom door was cracked open. I’m such a snoop! I shouldn’t be doing this!! She opened it a little more and before she even stepped in, the familiar smell of Greg had already taken her over. She stepped over to his bed stand where she saw the picture she had given him of the two of them. She smiled, and then her eyes found a paper underneath the picture. The smile went away just as fast as it appeared. When she picked it up, she noticed the NYU seal at the top.

‘We are happy to inform you that we have accepted you into New York University

“Good God.” She whispered to herself. There was another paper underneath the letter. The tuition check and book forms had both been filled out. “He’s really leaving.” Hilary suddenly heard Greg’s voice coming up the stairs.

“Amanda have you seen Hilary?” she quickly put the papers back where she found them and slipped out of the room.

“Oh, hey Greg! Look I have to go but I guess I’ll see you around sometime. Thanks for having me, the party was great!”

“Wait wait! Hilary I have to talk to you.” she got uneasy and leaned against the wall. “Are you ok? You don’t look so good.”

“Yeah, yeah I’m fine, I just need some fresh air, that’s all.”

They walked outside and down the street to the park. When he sat her down on a bench, she knew what he was going to tell her. What she knew already. Stupid, stupid me! Why did I go through his stuff?!

“Ok, gosh this is hard to tell you. But as we learned from past experiences, it’s better you hear it from me.”

          “What’s going on?”

“Hil I’m definitely going to the city for college.”

“Wow, that’s a shocker.” She laughed at herself.

          “What?” he got confused.

“Nothing, forget it. So when do you leave?” Hilary got quiet.

“Just my luck, I have to take a summer course, so in two weeks, and I know that’s really soon but I want to spend all the time I can with you.” his eyes got really soft and he was so sensitive.

“Greg, that’s really sweet and all, but, well I don’t know. I think its better that we just say our good bye’s now, because in two weeks I don’t know where I’m going to be.”

“We’re not saying bye. I’m going to see you again and-wait! Did you just say you don’t know where you’re going to be? Where are you going?” he questioned.

“Chill, Greg. I don’t know. I mean, what’s here for me in this town, why not go to California and try to get a job, or somewhere else? I want to wash my hands in this mess and never come back. I already told you in not stepping back on school property ever again, so-” he didn’t even let her finish.

“I have a great idea! Why don’t you stay with me? I’m not even staying in a dorm, so you can live in my apartment.”

“Are you nuts? I can’t do that. Look I have to get back home and figure out what I’m doing. We can still keep in touch, right? Like phone and all?”

“Yea, phone and all…” she stood up and pulled her arms tight around his neck. Oh man I’m going to miss his hugs! A tear was rolling down her cheek, but she wouldn’t let him see.

Greg grabbed her in his muscular arms, her body so small against his. How am I going to get through a day without her?

“Bye Greg,” she softly whispered. Tears were streaming down her face, where did they come from? They just couldn’t stop.

What am I doing! Hilary asked herself. I want to go to New York, I want to spend every waking moment with him. Turn around and go back, you still have a chance! But Hilary didn’t look back. She never looked back.
