~Chapter 7~

Graduation was on May 29th, a Saturday. The Friday before, Greg was lying in his bed debating over whether he should call Hilary or not. She wont come, she’s mad at me. Greg stop being stupid, just call and ask, you’ll never know unless you do. Mr. and Mrs. Raposo had all their family in and were throwing a huge graduation party for Greg. Mrs. Raposo told him he should call and invite Hilary. Obviously his mom was oblivious about her being mad.

          Rrrring! Rrrring! Rrrri-

-Hello?              Hilary answered with her sweet voice.

          -Um, Hil?

          -Greg?

-Uh, yeah, look I’ll make this quick because I know you don’t want to talk to me.              I do though! I want to talk to you so bad Greg! Hilary thought.

          -Ok, what’s wrong?

-Well, nothing’s wrong, I was just wondering if you want to come to my house tomorrow after grad, my parents are having some people over for a party. I was just wondering if you wanted to come.

There was silence on the phone.

-Ok, I didn’t think you’d want to come, ok, well I guess I’ll see you tomorrow.

-No wait. Greg don’t hang up.

          -Yeah?

-I’d love to come. I mean, I’m not doing anything else.

          -Great! I mean, cool.

-And one other thing, if you don’t mind….

          -No what?

-Can you give me a ride tomorrow to the school? I’m not planning on having my dad come or anything, and I can’t get there.

-Not a problem, we’ll pick you up.

          -Thanks Greg.

          -I’ll see you tomorrow.

          -Bye.

Click.

You see Greg, now that wasn’t so hard, you coward.  Greg laughed at himself then turned off the light. He slowly drifted off to sleep thinking about Hilary. But what his thoughts were far from reality, and he knew that.

Hilary hung up the phone after talking with Greg. She quietly opened the door to check on her dad sprawled out on the couch, then walked back into her room. After checking to make sure her outfit for graduation was still hanging in the closet, she turned out the light, locked the door, and went to sleep. She had worked up enough babysitting money to afford a simple black dress that barely covered her knees, along with new black heels.

She wasn’t expecting her dad to go with her tomorrow, or even that he knew about it. Frankly, she didn’t even want him there. She had been waiting for this day for a long time, and it was finally there. She wasn’t going to let him rain on this parade, no way.
