Summer finished and school was about to start. The Sunday before school started the girls met up. They were at Morgan’s house tanning outside on her back deck.

Jen: Morgan, you should throw a pool party this year.

Morgan: I was thinking about this Saturday. You girls and the guys.

Kate: That sounds fun!

Kerry: Sounds awesome!

They kept talking but everyone realized how quiet Crystal was. Kerry was the first to bring up Crystal’s quietness.

Kerry: Crystal what’s going on? You’re really quiet…

Crystal: You guys, I have something to tell you.

Kate: Is it something bad?

Crystal: Ya….

Jen: Did Matt break up with you?!

Crystal: No that would be good news compared to this.

Everyone got scared. Everyone knew how much Crystal liked Matt. For him to break up with her being a better issue then the news she had to tell them made them anxious and worried. Crystal sat up to face her friends who were already sitting up. She looked down at the lawn chair then back at their faces.

Crystal: Well you know how my dad’s a marine?

Morgan: Yah? What does that have to do with this?

Crystal: Well he’s being transferred to Boston and he’s working in ports there.

Kate: Are you moving?!

Crystal: We leave at the end of the month. The school still wants me to start the school year.

Jen: You can’t leave us!

Crystal: Believe me I don’t want to.

The girls all hugged Crystal. They were going to make the rest of the month fun with her. Plans for the pool party at Morgan’s house were set for Saturday. Luckily news of the party got their minds off Crystal’s leaving temporarily.

The next morning Crystal arrived at school wearing jeans and a cute tee to see Morgan at her locker wearing a jean skirt and black tank. The two girls were so early only about 10 people from their grade were at the school. Jen decided to wear jeans and a pink top with a “J” in the right corner.  She got their next and sat in her car for a few moments. Chris and her had made plans to meet in the parking lot. Kate decided to wear her American Eagle navy shorts and turquoise lacy tank. She got in her Mercedes and drove towards the school. When she pulled into the parking lot she spotted Jesse walking with Greg, Matt, and Frankie towards the school. She hurried out of the car to catch up with him. Kerry quickly grabbed an apple from her kitchen and said bye to her parents. She wore navy cargo pants and a light blue long-sleeved shirt. Her hair was straight and a New York Yankees hat that had been worn a lot was on top of her head keeping her hair down as the fall wind brushed across her face. She climbed into her Audi TT and drove off to school. When she walked in she went to her locker. Mrs. Sanders walked by and told her to take off the hat until school was over. Disappointedly Kerry put the hat in her locker and Greg walked over to her. She gave him a hug and a kiss on the cheek. She grabbed her books and headed down the hall to first period English with Greg.

The day went by slow but all friends were happy when lunch came. Luckily, they all got the same lunch. They sat at a picnic table outside. Crystal had yet to tell Matt she was leaving. She was going to wait until the pool party that Saturday. Greg and Frankie finished lunch early and said they had to go to the library to start a report. Kerry went to throw out her trash when a familiar voice called out her name from behind her. She turned around to see Tyler Edger. Tyler walked over and hugged her.

Tyler: I thought about you a lot this summer.

Kerry: Why? It was your idea to split for the summer.

Tyler: I know and I was dumb.

Kerry: Actually, I’m kinda glad we split.

Tyler: Well maybe we could hang out. I mean I missed you and I realized I didn’t like us being apart. I still like you a lot Kerry.

Kerry: Tyler, that’s sweet, but I have a boyfriend now.

Kerry looked at Tyler. He looked hurt. Kerry’s heart had shattered when Tyler told her he thought it would be better to not be together during the summer. She liked him so much that she cried for 2 days before hanging out with her friends. He had always been sweet to her, and did nothing wrong. It shocked her when he wanted to take the break. She couldn’t figure out what she did wrong. Now here he was. Wanting to get back together. She wanted so much to throw her arms around him and kiss him. Greg entered her mind and told him she was sorry but she had Greg now. Tyler asked if they could still hang out. Kerry said she didn’t know. The bell rang and she ran off. Tyler went back to his friends and told them what happened. They told him to screw Greg and get her back. Typically that wasn’t Tyler’s way, but he liked Kerry so much he would almost do anything. Anything.

The week went by slowly and everyone could only think of the party. Tyler had over heard Kerry talking to Jen about it, and he decided to crash the pool party.

When Saturday arrived Crystal showed up smiling but her cheeks were stained red from crying. Matt walked over to figure out what was wrong with her. Everyone decided to sit by the pool and they watched the two walk down towards the back of the yard towards the dock. Matt hugged her tightly when they reached the dock and bushes and trees kept them out of sight by the others. Crystal started crying again. Matt kissed her neck softly. Crystal pulled away and sat down in the grass. She wrapped her arms around her knees and hugged them close to her chest. Her head was buried in her arms. Matt sat next to her. He put his arm on her back and waited until she wanted to talk. She looked up to face him. She hugged him and the only words she got across were “I’m sorry”.

Matt: Sorry about what, Crystal?

Crystal: My dad’s getting transferred. We’re moving to Boston at the end of the month.

Matt felt like someone had just punched him in the stomach. His vision somewhat went blurry and Crystal’s embrace held him close to her. Crystal calmed down but the two didn’t get up. Matt ended up kissing her and they stayed there for 15 minutes just kissing in the grass.

Chris turned to Jen to see if she had any idea of why Crystal was upset. The girls explained how she was moving to Boston. They were all upset. They figured Crystal was telling Matt right now. They were interrupted when they heard the screen door open and in walked Tyler and his friends Jake and Mark. Tyler sat down by Kerry and hugged her. Greg got kind of upset but held it in. Kerry pushed Tyler away and moved closer to Greg. She felt better when she felt Greg’s arm around her.

Morgan: I don’t remember inviting you three!

Jake: Calm down Morgan. We come in peace.

Jen: What makes you think you can just come here without being invited, Jake?

Jake: Tyler overheard Kerry and Kate talking and we thought it would be fun.

Kerry: Wow, Tyler. You really have changed. You never used to act like this.

Tyler: Well if you weren’t going to talk to me at school I thought maybe you’d talk to me here.

Kerry: And what makes you think that. It was your idea not mine Tyler.

Greg sat confused and stared at his friends. None of them knew what was going on. They had no idea who Tyler, Jake, and the other guy was. Kate stood up trying to make things less tense. Uh, guys this is Tyler, Jake, and Mark. You guys this is Jesse, Chris, Frankie, and Greg. Matt and Crystal are down at the dock.

Mark: Sorry if we busted things up, but Tyler said he wanted to come.

Tyler: Please, Kerry, just talk to me.

Kerry looked at Greg. Greg was confused but Kerry stood up.

Kerry: Fine.

Tyler and Kerry walked down through the backyard. Kerry came by the bush and saw Matt and Crystal laying in the grass kissing. The two jumped up. Kerry and Tyler laughed.

Crystal: Tyler? What are you doing here?

Tyler: Long story. You must be Matt?

Matt: Cool to meet you Tyler. Well we’ll head back up to the party.

Matt but his arm around Crystal’s waist and the two walked back up towards the pool. Kerry sat down where Crystal had been sitting and Tyler sat down next to her.

Kerry: What is there left to say, Tyler?

Tyler: Kerry I liked you so much last year. I felt that things would go so wrong if we stayed together during the summer. I thought it would be best this way. But when I saw you on Monday you were all I could think about. I miss you.

Kerry: That’s sweet but I’m with Greg now.

Tyler looked down at the ground. He looked sad. Kerry leaned over and kissed his cheek. She sat back in her regular position and looked at the ground. She almost felt shy with Tyler. Tyler faced her. Kerry’s heart almost melted when she looked at him. He was so hott. His blonde hair came to his eyes and he had the prettiest blue eyes.

Back up at the pool, Greg turned and asked Jen who Tyler was. Jen explained how the two dated for 3 months last year but broke up right as summer started. She explained how Tyler decided it would be best to not be together for the summer. Greg couldn’t understand then what he wanted to talk to Kerry about. That’s when Mark stepped in.

Mark: So Greg, you’re the new boyfriend huh?

Greg: You could say that.

Mark: Kerry’s a heartbreaker, watch out.

Jen: Shut up Mark! Tyler broke up with her. She never really liked a boyfriend like she did Tyler, until she met Greg. All the other guys were just losers who wanted to get with her cuz she was pretty.

Mark: I’d love to get with her…

Mark bumped hands with Jake and started laughing. Greg got mad and wouldn’t let them talk about Kerry that way. He was about to punch him when Mark said something that stopped him.

Mark: Yah, and now Tyler wants her back. If what Jen says is true, then Kerry liked Tyler a lot. Looks like you’re gonna have some trouble, Greg.

Greg threw the punch. The two started hitting eachother. Morgan’s parents weren’t home but her sister Liz. Jesse went over to help Greg and ended up getting hit really bad in the nose by Jake. Morgan told him to go inside and ask Liz to help him. Chris stepped in and stopped the fighting. Jake grabbed Mark while Chris held Greg. Jesse walked in with his nose bleeding and his hand bleeding. Liz told him to sit on the kitchen counter and handed him tissues for his nose. She cleaned his bleeding hand and bandaged it up. When his bloody nose stopped he looked down at Liz.

Jesse: Thanks. And you are?

Liz: I’m Liz.

Jesse: Thanks, Liz. How old are you?

Liz: 16, I’m only one year younger than you guys.

Jesse and Liz ended up talking for half an hour. Jesse liked talking to Liz and ended up getting her number and screen name. Kate had walked in at that point and kissed Jesse’s cheek. Liz looked up and smiled at Kate.

Liz: Are you two going out?

Kate: yep.

Liz looked kind of bummed because she liked Jesse. Jesse wasn’t sure of many things anymore. He loved Kate, but for some reason for the remainder of the party he kept thinking about Liz.

When the fight ended, Mark and Jake left and went down towards the lake to tell Tyler they were leaving. When they got down there they were surprised. Tyler was kissing Kerry.
