Chapter 18 During lunch
Kerry found Kate outside on the picnic tables studying. Kerry: Got
a test? Kate: HUGE
test…and of course I didn’t study last night. Kerry: Yeah,
I figured that. All of a
sudden jenny walked up without a lunch and plopped down next to Kerry. Kate: Jenny
where were you this morning? You weren't at your locker. Jen: I got
to school late, I slept in. Kate: Oh
ok. So you excited for Sunday! Kerry’s
face dropped. Yikes, I forgot to tell Jenny! Jen: What’s
Sunday? Kate: Kerry
told you, did you forget or something? Jen: I haven’t
talked to Kerry since dinner the other night. Kate glanced
at Kerry. Jen: But
I guess everyone’s just forgetting about me lately. Kerry: No,
Jenny don’t say that. I’m sorry I just got busy with school and Zack and I’m so sorry! It was just something
me and Kate thought of, since we haven't really seen much of each other lately and- Jen: Forget
it Kerry. I’m busy anyways. I’ll see you around. With that,
she got up and walked off. Kerry: I
really am sorry! Kate: I know
you are. But you just forgot all about it, and you know she feels left out whenever someone forgets to tell her something. Kerry: I
know…gosh I feel bad now. Kate: Ok
I HAVE to go get help on this stuff, or Mrs. Keely wont be happy when I fail it, and I don’t think it’ll go over
well with my parents, either! Later babe. Kerry: Ok
bye Jenny got
into her car and left school, she didn’t care what anyone told her. Her parents wouldn’t know she’d cut
classes until the end of the term, and she’d take care of that then. She drove
to the mall, thinking shopping would make her happy. Jen walked into FYE to see if she could get the new John Mayer cd, instead,
the first thing she saw was an enlarged Dreamstreet poster. “Great,
just great,” she mumbled to herself. She just stood there looking at it when a man’s voice said something to her
from behind. Man: Can
I help you? If you’re looking for one of those cds, you’ll have to wait until we get more in stock. Jen: What? She looked
at his nametag; it said Nate. Nate: Dreamstreet.
If you want a cd you’ll have to wait, we’re sold out. Jen: No!
I don’t want a Dreamstreet cd!! Nate looked
at her funny: Ok, yeah I’m not a big fan of them either. Then is there anything in particular you’re looking for? Jen: Uh,
umm. Suddenly
her mind blanked out and she forgot what she came in there for all together. She walked fast to the food court and bought
a diet coke from a vending machine and sat down at a table. Greg was
in his computer class, but wasn’t exactly in class.
His body was, but in his mind, it was already Saturday. He couldn’t wait to spend the day with Kerry. Greg had come
to like Kerry a lot, to a point where every thought he had belonged to her. It was like nothing he’d ever experienced
before. Teacher:
Mr. Raposo…….GREG! Greg: oh,
sorry. He looked
around the classroom and noticed everyone’s eyes on him. Greg: Oops. The teacher
went back to showing the class a new program. Chris went
to the same school as Greg, and was 2 classrooms over. But it was a little different with Chris. He wasn’t thinking
about Jen, his mind (and eyes) were on Natasha, the girl across from him who was giving Chris a full view up her skirt. And
Chris wasn’t making an attempt to look away. The idea of “out of sight, out of mind” applied with every
girl Chris came in contact with. After school
Kate and Kerry chatted in the parking lot then got in their cars. Kate was closing the door to hers when someone’s hand
interfered. Jesse: Wait Kate: What
do you want McCartney? Jesse: I’m
sorry about Cammy, I cant help how she is. Kate: No
but you can help yourself and who you date. Jesse: *sigh*
I know. But I felt bad for her. Kate: Anything
that you could possibly feel bad for her for, she has done to herself. So don’t give me that crap. Cammy is the only
person that needs to wallow in “Cammy pity”. So please move your hand or you wont have one. He stepped
away from the car and she started the engine. Kerry tried
calling Jen’s cell, but there was no answer. She got voice mail over and over. She was trying to apologize for forgetting
to tell Jen. Maybe Jen was screening her calls? After a while she gave up and called Greg. They were on the phone until late
and Kerry was half asleep. Kate spent
the night watching movies with her mom since her dad was on a business trip to Jen spent
the night figuring out what to put in the email she’d be sending Kate and Kerry. How
could my best friend forget to call me. shows how important I am to her, right? Oh well, all the more reason to run I guess. |
