Kate
sat on the curb waiting for Jesse, and when she saw him in his new Range Rover, she stood up. She noticed when she grabbed
the door handle to open it, he looked away out the window. When
he pulled away there was silence between them both. “Look
Jess, I-” she started, but was interrupted. “You
know I’m only doing this because it sounded like you were in trouble or something, not because I love you anymore.”
After he said that it got quiet again for the next five minutes. I really screwed up.
God I HATE Landon! “Thanks
Jesse, for picking me up. I didn’t know who else to call…” “Oh
so that’s all I am, just someone you know will always be there, well sorry Kate, but I can’t, and I won’t.
I’m not a rebound guy either. You may think I’m always going to be there, but I wont. So don’t get used
to me dropping what I’m doing to come and be your personal driver.” “I
know, I can explain everything, but it may take a while…” “I
have a while. you don’t expect me to drive 20 minutes to get you and not get an explanation do you?” Kate
told Jesse all about “I
don’t know, but I don’t think I would have stayed around long enough to find out if he started to.” He can’t possibly still care about me, could he? Sure he asked me, but that has
to be some sort of common courtesy. She thought. I have to tell her. I want to tell her. I love her so much, but she can’t know,
not after how tuff I’ve been. Jesse played in
his head. When
pulled into Kate’s driveway, they both sat there for a few seconds. “Well,
thanks again, so much,” Kate said. “Yeah,”
Jesse whispered, “I guess I’ll see you around then,” he said a little louder. And with that Kate opened
the door and walked up the sidewalk to her house. “I love you more than you can imagine,” Jesse said to her after
the car door closed. |
