On the way to Kate’s house Jesse was driving faster than usual.

Kate: Well that was nice of you Jesse.

Jesse: What? My mom bugs me.

Kate: Couldn’t I have said hi to her at least? I mean come on, they walk into their house and see you and me on a couch, so what kind of impression of me do you think they have?? Not a good one.

Jesse: Don’t worry about it baby, it’s just my family. Not so important.

Kate: To me it is! They seemed nice and I wanted to meet them. You didn’t have to rush me out of the house like that.

Jesse: Oh Kate give me a break!

Kate: Just bring me home, I don’t want to be in the car with you right now, or with you at all.

Jesse glanced over to Kate quick then rolled his eyes.

Kate: What is with you all of a sudden?

Jesse: What? Look im sorry I ‘rushed’ you out of the house, next time we’ll stay to ‘chat’.

Kate: Whatever.

Jesse: Look I told you I was sorry but I guess that’s not good enough??

Kate: NO Jesse I want you to slow down!

Jesse: Aw am I going too fast??

Kate: PULL OVER!

Jesse: no. you said it yourself you didn’t want to be in the car with me, so I’m taking you home.

Kate had tears building up in her eyes.

Kate: Jesse I just want to go home!

He sped up crossing a small bridge, but when then came over the other side, Jesse lost total control over the Land Cruiser. The car spun out. It happened so fast neither of them remembered anything. One second Kate and Jesse were arguing over meeting his family, the next his car was totaled and molded around a tree. It was a gift from God that Jesse was able to pull himself out of the broken window with a scraped head, but Kate wasn’t so lucky. The first thing that popped into Jesse’s mind was Kate.

Jesse: KATE!

He was screaming and ran around to the passenger side. After seeing she wasn’t moving, he pulled out his cell phone and dialed 911. he was yelling into the phone and the operator tried to calm him down.

Operator: Ok sir, sir, please calm down and tell me what happened.

Jesse: You don’t understand! She’s hurt! It’s my fault and she’s hurt!

Operator: What happened sir?

Jesse: My car, it’s wrapped around a tree. Please help. Please.

He proceeded to tell her where they were. Within 5 minutes there was a fire truck, an ambulance, and 2 police cars at the scene. Jesse was so overwhelmed by all the flashing lights and sirens going off.

Kerry ran up to her room after bringing Greg home. She decided to call Jen and catch up with her.

Ring. Ring. Ri-

Jen: Hello?

Kerry: Hey chicka what’s new?

Jen: Oh hey! Nothing, Chris, me, Kate, and Jesse went out on the lake today for a bit and got a boat and all that.

Kerry: Oh cool.

Jen: Yea, it was fun. What have you been up to today?

Kerry: Oh I just did a little shopping……

Jen: Oh really? What for?

Kerry: Greg invited me to this Award show thingy, nothin big.

Jen: Are you kidding me?! Award show?

Kerry: Yea, so.

Jen: Kerry, Greg’s like, a singer. And at these award show “thingy’s” there are going to be other singers. Other famous singers.

Kerry: Oh. So what?

Jen: Oh never mind! Haha.

Jen turned on her TV and was flipping through the channels and stopped on the news covering a car crash.

Jen: Oh dear, that’s a really bad car accident…I don’t doubt someone died in that.

Kerry: What are you watching? The news?

Jen: Ya, turn on channel 2.

Kerry: Wow, that is pretty nasty.

All of a sudden Jen gasped. Just starting to cry…

Jen: KERRY!

Kerry heard her crying and got scared..

Kerry: What? Jen are you ok? What’s wrong?

Jen: Kerry are you sitting down…?

Kerry: Yea….why?

Jen: That car, it’s……it’s……

Kerry: Jen talk to me, what about that car?

Jen: It’s JESSE’S!

Kerry: *gasp* well, well, um, don’t worry, Kate couldn’t have been in it…right? I mean I see Jesse right there sitting down talking to the cop, so, uh, don’t worry, Kate couldn’t be there…

Jen: Kerry, there’s an ambulance, and it isn’t near Jesse, it’s at the car…

They both started crying to each other and they tried to call Kate’s cell to make themselves feel better. But when she didn’t pick up, they felt even worse.

It took 40 minutes to get Kate out of the car without hurting her even more. Her cell phone, which was in her back pocket, rang 4 times, but no one could get it out for her. Jesse was sitting off to the side taking a blood test with a cop to test if there was any alcohol in his system, which there wasn’t. The cop, Lieutenant Garagy was asking him questions about the accident as much as he could remember. There were reporters all around and the police did their best to block off the accident area to keep them away. Once Kate was out of the car and on a stretcher, the ambulance rusher her to the nearest hospital. Jesse was left at the scene. He called his mom at home and explained what happened. She immediately came. Mrs. McCartney didn’t think it was best for him to go to the hospital to see her, even though he wanted to so badly. While his mom discussed some legal things with the cops and took care of that, he sat on the side of the road and thought about everything. He was so mad at himself. He let his anger get the best of him, and he hurt the one thing he loved.

When Kerry and Jen hung up and called Chris, Spencer, Sparkle, Matt, and Frankie, they all had the same reaction. Jesse hadn’t called any of the guys and none of them heard from Kate either. All worried, they called the McCartney house. Mrs. McCartney answered and told them Kate was in the hospital and wasn’t taking visitors. She said the cops had been to her house and Kate’s parents and family was all there, but no one else was allowed.

After the hung up with Mrs. McCartney they all comforted each other over the phone.
