Monochromatic Work
My monochromatic body of work consists of paintings, either on panel or on paper, as well as lithographs and embossings. I wanted to make work that takes time to create and time to be revealed. By narrowing the scope of color, motion, and tradition, I hope to find something larger than each of those things.
I started with simple wave patterns found in classical Chinese painting. The images are layers of these patterns, either white on white paper or black ink on panels of sanded black gesso. The waves become new shapes as the layers become denser, fading away as the ink merges with the color of the paper.
