The Y2K Online 500 was completed on February 12th, 2000 with Jim Smith(NOFEAR) coming out on top after the smoke had cleared. There were two attempts at the 500 on Saturday morning when a warping glitch caused a mass black flag in the opening lap of the first try. CShearburn and Bob36 took the front row. On the second try things went much smoother and CShearburn again came out on top for the pole. Amish_TB took the outside front row with Bob36 relegated back to 6th.
When the green flew there was some good clean racing for a while. A few incidents in the first half left some cars in the garage area including last year's 500 winner CShearburn, who would go on to finish the event, and a few more out of the lead lap. By the halfway point only 16 cars remained on the lead lap and 19 cars were left in the race. With just over 90 laps to go the field would make the first and only greenflag stop. Bob36 came out the leader but was quickly run down by the lead lap cars to form a 8 car draft once again. A caution with 79 to go bunched up the field yet again.
With all the good racing in the middle stages of the race it still came down to a sprint to the end. A caution with 9 to go bunched the field up again to fight it out to the finish. After the green flew on lap 183 another caution came out. This bunched the field for the final time to make it a 2 lap dash for the win. Bob36 restarted the field with ErickT in 2nd, and NOFEAR in 3rd. When the green flew 4th place FASTKEV went to the outside to make a move but the hole was filled and he dropped back a few spots.
Heading down the backtretch FASTKEV and Digital_6 made slight contact starting a chain-reaction through the field causing the final caution of the event. The leaders raced through 3 - 4 knowing it was the end of the race. Off turn 4 Bob36 held the lead but he and ErickT made contact sending Bob36 spining and losing the race. NOFEAR swooped to the outside to take the lead along with Plex2_ and Digital_6. ErickT crossed the line in 4th and K_Otto came home in 5th. After a post-race review by TRS, ErickT was penalized 12 positions which left NOFEAR still 1st, plex2_ 2nd, Digital_6 in 3rd, K_Otto in 4th, and plex1 rounding out the top 5.
