Burning
Man Earth Guardians - What is there for you?
This year, Earth Guardians are trying to think of new ways to stimulate the Burning Man community to appreciate the Black Rock environment and embrace LNT in their own creative ways. By focusing the community's tremendous artistic, technical and spiritual energy, we can go beyond "no trace" and leave positive traces on the land. Below are some of our
initial ideas to make this happen. Please let us know
if you're interested in volunteering with one of these teams or if you
have your own ideas on how to spread the LNT word!
compile LNT information that will be send out to theme camps as they register with Burning man and prepare for the event. The team also coordinates with Harley's theme camp placers to spread the LNT word to camps as they arrive at Black Rock City. The team will also help to organize a LNT tour during the event (going from model camp to camp). Let us know if your camp is interested in being a model camp! Email Karina@burningman.com trips and develop LNT training material for Burning man internal staff and volunteer coordinators to spread the LNT work within Burning Man's internal groups (e.g. greeters, rangers, lamplighters, etc. - so that they can spread the word and keep their own camps LNT. Email Harley@burningman.com
streets of our fair city and spread the word person to person can be EG Crusaders. Their job is to pass from camp to camp helping folks better understand how to easily incorporate LNT into their day-to-day camp life. Email Shibumi@burningman.com participatory education during the walks introduced participants much more directly to the nature that is a part of the Black Rock (in contrast to the idea that it's a wasteland) and opened. These folks will continue the nature walk tradition in 2002. Email Abakery@yahoo.com patrols of the hot springs in 2002. Burning Man has agreed with BLM that participants will not use the springs during the event as part of our permit. The springs are little treasures in the wilderness and cannot handle but a few occasional people. Earth Guardians visit the springs during the event to let people know about the restrictions and protect the springs. Interested? Email freddyo@desertdrivel.com LNT information out the citizens of Black Rock via our local radio stations! Email feldspar@well.com outreach will help heal the scars of past and present uses, making the event a net positive impact on the environment. This project will have intertwined branches at the Frog Farm site: Environmental Restoration: Rebuilding and enhancing impacted habitats around the Playa, channeling the energy and volunteer spirit of Burning Man participants, and Environmental Art: Creating interactive, site-specific art while learning, working and playing together. Email Abakery@yahoo.com LNT COMMUNICATION
FROM THE EG PAVILION
from the pavilion where folks can come for information. email markgiannuzzi@yahoo.com display, an Interpretive walk. This will be an interactive, 24/7 attraction that includes information on the Black Rock desert and history, LNT techniques, etc. Visualize a walled, curved pathway with displays, lights, sounds, and textures. After going through the walk, folks will enter an inspirational, zen-like space in which they will be able to leave their thoughts on the Black Rock. After this room, the participants will move on to a discussion lounge - where they can talk with other participants and enjoy a refreshing drink from our water bar. email karina@burningman.com lime- light can perform on the stage in the Earth Guardian pavilion. This year we're going to have quite an array of activities and music during the event. Anyone interested in performing on the stage should email Josiah at sunbittern@hotmail.com
