Burning Man Earth Guardians - When Are
We Going to the Playa?: Calendar of Events 

April 6-  Burning Man Town Hall Meeting -  San Francisco - 11 am-3pm 

  * SomArts Gallery  -934 Brannan (at 8th Street)
  * Find out how you can volunteer with Burning Man! Thousands of volunteers are needed to make Burning Man happen. Meet great people and start the fun before you get to Black Rock City. 
  *Representatives from all volunteer teams will be present to show you how. Barbecues will be provided. Bring your own food and drink to share!

April 19 - Wilderness Restoration Activities- Doobie Lane

  * Sometimes known as Guru Road, this is an art installation which starts about 3 miles north of Gerlach on Rte. 34 and meanders along for nearly 3 miles more. Installations such as the  "Wedding Chapel" and "TV Station" have been severely weathered and need maintenance, and the entire road needs to be canvassed for trash.
  * Please RSVP to DPW by Friday, April 11th, metric@brc-dpw.org 
  * It will be a great opportunity to join forces with DPW to restore a local landmark!

April 26-  Earth Day on the Playa- Black Rock desert 

  * Come learn and enjoy the desert with workshops on Wilderness Restoration, Leave No Trace, and Invasive Plant Identification. 
  * There will be a potluck meal / barbecue Saturday PM followed by music and the usual campfire lies - sponsored by BLM and Friends of Black Rock/High Rock.
  * It will be a great opportunity to join forces with other desert stewards

April 27-  Wilderness Restoration Activities- Black Rock desert 

  * Take the wilderness back from the roads: Volunteers are invited to work with BLM/AmeriCorps crews to restore closed roads and ways in the Black Rock-High Rock Wilderness areas.

  * It will be a great opportunity to join forces with other desert stewards

April  27-  Initial scoping and weed removal meeting for Earth Guardian Restoration project - Garret Ranch

  * Join Earth Guardians in working to restore this degraded spring into a green oasis. * For Info: Andy Baker, bakery@yahoo.com or join the email discussion group by emailing karina@burningman.com 
  * It will be a great chance to meet other earth guardians and restore the environment.

May 10/11 - (Sat and Sun) LNT Backpacking Trip

   *  This is the annual Earth Guardian Backpacking trip to an area in the mountains    around the Black Rock desert.  This is our most important training for the year.
  * The weekend is focused on teaching an understanding of Leave No Trace and backpacking skills to all that come. 
  * This will be the second trip lead by Burning Manís own LNT Masters, so will developed specifically for the  BM community.  See photos from last year.

May 12-16 - (Mon - Fri) LNT Masters Training - Hosted by BLM / NOLS

   *  Backpack in the East Fork High Rock Canyon Wilderness. 
  *  Four Earth Guardians (including Senior Staff member Harley!) went to this training last year in Arizona, now you all are lucky to be able to attend the training in Black Rock Desert.

   * The class is limited to about 12 participants, an includes an enrollment fee to cover food and class materials.

May 17/18 - (Sat and Sun)  Assessment of Historic Sites - High Rock Canyon

 *  BLM needs volunteers to help them assess historic sites in the area
  * Small crew needed, preferably with archaeological background / interests.

June 14/15- (Sat and Sun) Exploring Trip -Visit High Rock Canyon and help locate historic sites

   *  Explore spectacular High Rock Canyon  and help BLM find historic traces of pioneers and settlers
   *  We'll be helping BLM by GPSing various sites throughout the canyon
  *  We'll be car camping on Friday and Saturday night, vehicle with 4-wheel drive needed.
   * Meet Friday night at 80 acres

June 21/22 - (Sat and Sun) BLM Volunteer Training
    Learn about the Black Rock Desert and its many different desert stewards

   *  Come join us for the annual  BLM Volunteer Training 
   * Are you interested in learning 1st Aid and CPR?  Do you really understand how that nifty GPS you got for Christmas works? 
   *  What about that map of the Black Rock desert?  Do you feel like you could venture off on the playa on your own with the Map and the GPS?  Want to learn how to operate an All-terrain vehicle?  This is your weekend
   * Meet Friday night at 80 acres or Saturday morning at Gerlach community center @ 9am

June ? - (Sat and Sun) Playa Field Trip for Restoration Project
    Come help us give back to the Black Rock Desert!

   *  Come contribute to our "Adopt an Oasis Project"
   *  We want to create environmental art that both beatifies the
      area, and or importantly encourages the use of fowl in the area.
   * Lets make a safe haven for wildlife in the harsh desert environs
   * Meet Friday night at 80 acres or Saturday morning at TBA @ 9am

June 28 - (Sat) Rene Lassen Historic Tour - Friends of Black Rock trip

   *  Mt. Lassen, Lassen National Park and the Applegate-Lassen Trail are just a few namesakes that bear Peter Lassenís name.  Peter Lassenís greatÖnephew, Rene Lassen, a Danish schoolteacher, has spent numerous summers in the United States researching his uncleís history.  He will provide humorous insights and slides on his famous or infamous uncle.
   * Brunoís Gerlach Country Club will be the site of dinner and the lecture at 6 PM. Cost will be $35.  A guided tour to the Lassen-Clapper murder site on the edge of the Black Rock Desert will begin in Gerlach at 11AM  earlier that day.

July ? - Burning Man Flambe Lounge - SF 

  * Come join us for the  first flambe lounge of 2003!
  * If costumed, you get in for $10, otherwise it's $15
 

July TBA - Camp Planning Meeting / Workshop, 11:00 am, BM office, SF 

  * Discuss camp layout and EG goals for 2000
  * Form sub committees to plan decorations, set up crew, take down crew, 
     schedule of events, kitchen facilities for those camping with EG
 * Prepare more PSAs for Burning Man Information Radioİ 
 * Prepare more EG tools/ pouchesİ 

July TBA - Volunteer BBQ,  SF 

  *  BBQ Potluck for all Burning Man Volunteers
  *  Where:  TBA
  *  Eat, drink, be merry, meet other BM volunteers
 

August TBA - Camp Planning Meeting / Workshop, 7:00 pm, BM office, SF 

  * Finalize EG camp, Q & A about BM 2001
  * Finish development of EG swag
