Mahtin's page of Queer Boston links
Boston has a very active GLBT community. However, in contrast to other cities, Boston does not have a queer community center, and there are only about 2 or 3 bars or clubs in the area that have women's nights. :( Here's my list of queer stuff in Boston:
- I put my Boston queer youth links on a separate page.
- Some GLBT and activist Internet Mailing Lists in the area.
- Mass Pride Net lists organizations, businesses, and websites of GLBT folks all over New England. They even tell us about Out in the Park
- A listing of queer events in the Boston area.
- Triskelion, Brandeis University's GLBTQSU group.
- The Bisexual Resource Center, Boston, Mass. Biversity Boston is also in there! Lots of events and groups and stuff.
- Biversity Calendar, with phone numbers deleted.
- Boston Pride (the event)
- Getting around Boston Pride
- Boston Transgender Pride, that same week!
- Gay Boston (the men, anyhow)
- In the summertime, or any time people want to just get away, lots of queers head out to Provincetown, on Cape Cod. More on P'town.
- My favorite queer bookstore in the area is Glad Day, because they have such a good selection of books and magazines and they're in a pretty good location. Well, maybe that's just because I have only been to one of the other local bookstores, and it wasn't as easy to get to!
- Bay Windows, New England's Largest Gay and Lesbian Newspaper.
- Sojourner, a feminist/lesbian newspaper.
- The Boston Phoenix publishes a GLBT section of the paper once a month that is called 1in10.The Phoenix also has a list of gay clubs.
- Yahoo Boston's Guide to Gay Clubs in Boston (out of date, naturally)
- The Pink Pages, a listing of businesses and organizations in New England.
- Boston's Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Speakers' Bureau. They also address TG concerns.
- Citizens Against Homophobia. I'm not actually sure they still exist.
- The Gay and Lesbian African American Salon.
- The Queer Asian Pacific Alliance, a very active group in the area.
- The Gaylaxians, the Boston area "organization for gay, lesbian, bisexual people and their friends interested in science fiction, fantasy and horror." They even have a convention in the summer.
- Gay Fathers of Greater Boston
- Boston Gay and Bisexual Married Men's Support Group. Why don't we have the equivalent for women, I wonder?
- Women Meeting Women, a group for northern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire women.
- FORM, Boston's right-to-marriage group.
- Boston Freedom Trail Band
- Boston Gay Men's Chorus
- Boston Gay and Lesbian Country Dancers
- Gays for Patsy. Their site includes a listing of country/western dance events in the area.
- The International Foundation for Gender Education, some really nice people who do education, and of course some support, around gender (transgender) issues. Their office is nearby.
- GenderTalk is a trans/queer radio show on Wednesday nights. This site also has a bunch of great trans and queer links.
- The Hero's Journey, an FTM Conference.
- Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders
- Massachusetts Gay and Lesbian Political Caucus
- Can't forget the Fenway Community Health Center, which back in its day was _the_ place for queers to go to get health care. In the '90's, they're kind of more HMO-style, but they do have cool free programs.
- Boston's AIDS Action Committee.
- BostonPride.com, a site of GLBT events, personals, etc. in the Boston area.
- Adult Children of Heterosexuals, a "sex-positive, queer cultural visitation-point" which began merely as a mixed-gender cabaret/political-theater - rock-band in Boston, but just look at them now!
- Planet Q
- Hanarchy Now Productions. They do cool events for queer women. And they have an excellent mailing list, which is _the_ way to find out about queer/women's events in the area. Also a resource for job and apartment listings.
- The Amazon Slam, a monthly women's poetry slam.
- Boston has a chapter of Lesbian Avengers. :) They're cool. And they have an Internet mailing list.
- Grand Opening, a women-centered (safer) sex boutique.
- Another sex shop in Boston (it's more focused on fetish stuff, but there are also toys and safer sex stuff): Eros Boutique.
- NLA: New England (chapter of the National Leather Association), including events.
- New England Bears
- Family Tree, people actively interested and/or participating in alternative relationship and family lifestyles.
- Love Without Bounds, a local polyamory (discussion, mostly) group
- Dudley's Queer Maine Pages
