DESTINATION
"KAPU"RANCHO ALMENDROS
|
This beautiful
private Cabo Matapalo retreat is located at the southern
tip of Costa Ricas "Last Best
Osa Peninsula"
in front of Playa Matapalo Beach. Enjoy the harmony and privacy of this pristine
natural setting with virgin coastal rainforest and ocean beaches right at your doorstep.
Part of an ongoing reforestation project of Indian Almond Trees to support the
endangered Scarlet Macaw, "Kapu"Rancho Almendros has the first solar powered houses built in the
Cabo Matapalo area. Rancho "Kapu" (as known by
locals) is a sustainable development of land, water and solar
energy. Food and raw materials are harvested on the property
from renewable sources which include our fruit orchards, bamboo
vegetable greenhouses, worm composting, and bee farming.
Currently, there are three
cabinas available for rent. Each house comes complete with kitchens
with refrigeration,
private baths connected to garden showers, solar electric lighting with bed-room fans,
hammocks, an outdoor barbecue and, a cooling pool of artesian creek water. There are
five-six bedrooms available in three houses, with two guests per room for a maximum of
10-12 guests. Being a small development assures our guests the maximum in peace and privacy that
larger establishments cannot offer. All of our rooms are built in the tropical style; plenty of
fresh ventilation with large generous windows that are fully
screened* in rooms of beautiful hardwood construction. Emphasis
has been placed on your privacy. This is truly an alternative to crowded hotels
with multiple cabinas.
Wireless satellite internet is
now available to all guests with laptop computers.

*Many lodges in the area
advertise "tropically efficient" unscreened bedrooms
with mosquito netting. This does not work in the tropics
with nighttime electric lighting. Mosquito
netting ends up covered with insects that can keep you pinned to
your bed all night. This can be made worse by periodic
migrations. Screened rooms are essential and our louvers and
creative landscaping give you an extra touch of additional privacy
which we work to maintain for our guests

A NATURE LOVER'S
DREAMSCAPE
|
Denise Stanfield's 2004 article about Rancho Kapu in On-the-Edge Magazine
refers to this private retreat as "An undiscovered
treasure at Matapalo Point".
Unlike all the luxury lodges
in Cabo Matapalo who have locations high on the cape with long
distance walks to the beach, Rancho Almendros is known since
1990, for its extremely
desireable "on the beach" location.
Beautiful nature trails, abundant with unusual flora and
fauna, lead from the Rancho in all directions. There are short
hikes to a 20 meter waterfall, to the top of the Cape and
through the dry coastal forest that runs adjacent to the numerous
world class surfing beaches of Matapalo.
In addition,
Rancho Almendros also has excellent kayaking with guides,
horseback riding, bird-watching, onshore and offshore
fishing, snorkeling, world-class surfing
directly in
front of the property or at 3 other locations within walking
distance, and safe swimming at "Backwash Bay";
everything available locally.
English speaking naturalists
and guides are always available for tours of the
Cape through "Everyday
Adventures".
They have, for the more adventurous, a tree climbing and waterfall
rapelling tour that's not to be missed!
However, one does not have to
venture out to see the incredible abundance of wild life.
The reforestation of almond trees right on the property attracts
hundreds of Scarlet Macaw and other bird varieties, and in
addition, 2 out of the 4 varieties of monkeys can be observed at feeders
in view of our "Main Rancho" dining veranda.

"HOUSE
RENTAL PLAN"
|
Three
cabinas are
currently available for renting. Two have private kitchens,
with at least two double rooms with private baths.
One of the houses is the "Honeymoon Cabina",
with its upstairs bedroom surrounded by a 360 degree veranda, full view from forest to ocean, a moon deck,
comfortable chairs and hammocks and a small cooling pool of Artesian
creek water at the bottom of the staircase. This cabina is located
closer to the forest and brings in a mix of sounds from the ocean
and the forest. An artist's studio, ping pong area, full kitchen
and extra double bedroom are all available on the
cabina's first floor.
A little closer to the beach, the
newly remodeled "Main Rancho" joins a
much larger outdoor dining veranda and full kitchen with two
adjacent private double
rooms and a lookout "Mirador" on the second floor. This
cabina is closest to the beach.
Adjacent to the "Main
Rancho" is a small private cabina called the "Ranchito.
This cabina is a favorite for budget travelers. It's native
style thatched roof, round floor plan with open air windows and
adjacent private bath is a more traditional approach to a
tropically styled double bedroom. The room enjoys great
privacy as it is surrounded by lush gardens and fragrant "ylang
ylang"
trees. It is mostly used as an overflow double cabina along with
the "Main Rancho" for groups of 6.
Maid service is included with
these rentals and food can be brought out from Puerto Jimenez by
taxi service. Our office manager in Puerto Jimenez can also
meet you at the local airport and direct you to the local grocery
stores, taxi service and car rentals that are now available in Pto.
Jimenez. Contact Solid

The newly constructed green houses on the property now provide year
round, an
abundance of organically grown fresh vegetables to add a delicious
and healthy touch to your dining experience. In addition,
