History

The Sister City Program was introduced by President Eisenhower in 1956.  The City of Covina has been an active participant since 1964.

Purpose

The Covina-Xalapa Sister City Program is a cultural exchange dedicated to a greater understanding and friendship between Mexico and the United States.

Program Mechanics


 Tentative  Schedule

March 24: Application Deadline.  Interviews are conducted at applicants’ homes.
Early May: Final acceptances mailed
Late May: Student orientation
June 28: Covina Students leave for Xalapa.
July 26: Covina students return to Los Angeles with Xalapa Students
August 23: Xalapa students return to Mexico

Program Costs
 
Registration Fee $50
Round-trip Airfare $425
Incidental Expenses (Restaurant meals, gifts, souvenirs, etc.) $200
