Chocolate Upside Down Cake

This one is a real treat when it comes out of the oven. When cooked the desert separates into a rich almost pudding like cake with this wounderfull creamy chocolate sauce underneath. You'll want to eat this one with a spoon!

Chocolate Upside Down cake

 Cake Ingredients:  Topping Ingredients:
 1 1/4 Cups flour 2TBS cocoa 
3/4 Cup sugar 1/2 Cup brown sugar
2 tsp baking powder 1/2 Cup granulated sugar
1 tsp salt 1 Cup boiling water
1 sq (1 oz.) unsweetened chocolate whipping cream (optional)
2TBS butter
1/2 Cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
 1/2 Cup nuts (optional)  

PREPARATION:

Sift flour with 3/4 cup of granulated sugar, baking powder and salt directly into a mixing bowl.
 Melt chocolate and butter together in a double boiler.*
 Add milk and vanilla to the melted chocolate.
 Add all at once to the dry ingredients and stir together until thoroughly mixed.
 Add nuts at this time if desired.
 Turn the batter into a greased 8" round glass cake pan 3 - 4" deep.
 To make the topping, combine the coca, brown sugar and granulated sugar and mix well.
 Sprinkle the cocoa and sugar mixture over the batter.
 Pour the 1 Cup of boiling water over the top and bake at once.
 
 Bake at 350 for 45 - 50 minutes
 

Serving Suggestions:

Serve warm with whipped cream &/or ice cream!

 NOTES:  
*If you don't have a double boiler use two pots one larger to heat the water the other small enough to fit into the larger one to melt the chocolate.
