The Indiana State Senate enacted legislation (Senate Enrolled Act 320 http://www.in.gov/legislative/bills/2007/PDF/SE/SE0320.1.pdf) signed into law by Governor Daniels on May 9, 2007. This law will create the State Board of Massage Therapy and this new board will issue certifications to massage therapists who meet the specific requirements found in this new law.  Under this law, Governor Daniels has until January 1, 2008 to make initial appointments to the new State Board of Massage Therapy. Once these appointments have been made and the new board begins meeting, the law allows the board a significant amount of time before full implementation takes effect. After January 1, 2009, massage therapists will need to have obtained the state certification in order to continue calling themselves "Massage Therapists" or "Certified Massage Therapists".  As such, currently only ununiformly enforced weak local ordinances are in place to protect the public from illegitimate businesses representing themselves to be massage therapists.

The logos which you have seen on this web-site indicate that I am a member of the Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals(ABMP) and have passed the National Certification Board Examination in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCTMB). I am also a member of the Day-Break Geriatric Massage Institute, an organization dedicated to the training of professionals in massage for the elderly population.

All of these organizations require the adherance to a high set of ethical business and treatment standards including but not limited to:
working within our scope of practice, professional relationships and conduct, equal treatment of all clients, protection of confidential information, and the accurate representation of information.

The National Certification Examination is a measurement of the practitioner's knowledge in the areas of massage and bodywork, anatomy and physiology, pathology, kinesiology, and ethical business practices. It has become a standard element in many of the states that do require licensure of massage therapy.

As a former contract employee for the federal government working in a massage related research project at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, I completed coursework in Health Information Protection (HIPPA), Good Clinical Practices, and Human Subjects Protection.

I maintain HeartSaver/ AED certification in adult ,child, and infant CardioPulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated Electronic Defibrillator techniques.

I encourage you to explore the links to the web-sites that I have provided so that you may make an informed decision when choosing me as a massage therapist.
