Judith Weidman

Ms. Weidman displayed a natural talent early in life and, at the age of thirteen began private art lessons with Elizabeth Laramoore Edwards, a teacher and portrait artist well known  in the Pennsylvania and Ohio area.   Giving her a strong foundation in drawing and composition, and introducing her to numerous mediums, the lessons culminated in painting out-of-doors; Pearl Buck's Farm, in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, a favorite site.  While in High School, an award gained her admittance to the Moore College of Art in Philadelphia for special design sessions held every Saturday. By her senior year she was showing, selling and receiving her first commissions.

Her professional studies continued at the Tyler School of Temple University until being awarded a scholarship to The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia.   Here she received comprehensive training under some of the best instructors in the country and considers these formative years the most important of her artistic experience.  The period also included two European trips dedicated to art appreciation.  The second trip, lasting six months, covered the collections of major museums and galleries of England, France, Germany, Austria, Italy and Spain.  Returning home with an even stronger identification to the French Impressionist painters, and a new vision of J.M.W. Turner's work, she painted in Philadelphia for the next few years.

Some time was spent in Florida where some new work evolved; the by-product, she feels, of meditation.  The following eight years she lived in the Asheville, North Carolina area.  This scenic locale inspired her to indulge her passion for on-location painting.  Never one to rest on her laurels, she pursued a course of study in knife painting, and through a series of workshops at Mars Hill College, re-kindled a strong interest in watercolor painting.  During this productive time, she regularly exhibited in group and one-woman shows.

Ms. Weidman's broad artistic education and extensive experience has not only enabled her to feel technically comfortable in a variety of mediums, but also allows her to seek ever greater challenges to her artistic expression.  Now residing in Southeast Florida, she has recently completed several paintings in previously unexplored themes, much in keeping with her personal philosophy that, "Evolution of the total person is essential, especially for the artist;  going beyond the status quo, feeling anew the wonder - the magic of each creative experience".  This attitude is apparent in her work; Impressionistic in style, varied in topic, each painting having its own transcendent quality.  Working in watercolor, oil, acrylic, and pastel, she selects the medium that will best convey what she is trying to say about a particular subject or idea.  Her paintings are in private collections primarily on the East coast of the United States of America.

Listed here are Art Schools attended: Moore College of Art, Philadelphia, PA - Tyler School of Art, Temple University, Elkins Park, PA - The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia, PA. Watercolor Workshops (Frank Jennings) at  Mars Hill College, Mars Hill, NC.

While living in North Carolina, two years were devoted to knife painting (Donna Beavers).  Most of the work completed during this time was sold privately or at shows where I exhibited.

I studied "Magic Realism" with New York Artist Bob Kulicke at his Harvey Cedars, New Jersey  studio. Two summer trips were made for the purpose of study with him.

My last show was on Lincoln Road, Miami, Florida. This was a group show.
