66th ANNUAL REUNION

September, 2012 -- New Orleans, Louisiana

Our next reunion (the 66th Annual Reunion) will be held in historic New Orleans, Louisiana. The reunion headquarters will be announced later. For additional information, please contact the 2012 Reunion Co-Chairpersons, Merle and Lucky Buck, tel.: (803) 536-1467 and Janet and Roger Cline.

The reunion will include all soldiers (and their families and survivors) who served in the 314th Infantry Regiment or the 79th Reconnaissance Troop or who supported those units of the 79th Infantry Division during World War II (Dec. 1941 through VE Day 1945). Soldiers (and their families and survivors) of any other units of the 79th Infantry Division who served in World War II, all present members of the 314th Infantry Regiment and all other members of the Association are welcome. Our 2011 (65th Annual) Reunion took place in Charleston, South Carolina. We express our thanks to Merle and Lucky Buck and Janet and Roger Cline, Reunion Co-Chairpersons, whose efforts made the reunion special and a complete success.

My wife, Thais, passed away on March 19, 2006. In 2005, we survived Hurricanes Katrina and Rita together. We were both confident that New Orleans will in due time be restored and I remain confident that it will. She shared my view that, if you came to the 1999 New Orleans reunion, you now know what it means to say, laissez les bon temps roulez ("let the good times roll"). When you come back to N'Awlins, please let me know; I would be happy to see you. I would also like to hear from you even if you do not make it back to our home town.

The US Army Activated the 79th USAR Sustainment Support Command as Successor to the 79th Infantry Division

We have been advised that the US Army has activated the 79th USAR Sustainment Support Command at the Joint Forces Training Base, Los Alamitos, CA. This new two-star command has succeeded tot he lineage and honors of the 79th Infantry Division. The 79th SSC will provide trained, ready, cohesive, well-led Sustainment units for world-wide deployment to meet the U.S. Army’s rotational and contingency mission requirements in support of the National Military Strategy.

The US Army Reactivated the 314th Infantry Regiment as a Unit of the 174th Infantry Regiment

The US Army has reactivated the 314th Infantry Regiment and its First, Second and Third Battalions as cadre training units. All have been deployed to Iraq at various times. The activation of the Regiment and its three battalions followed the earlier activation, on October 17, 1999, of the 1st Bn, 314th Inf at Fort Drum, NY. Administrative headquarters of the 314th Infantry Regiment is now located at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, NJ.
