Welcome to Kaylin's Family Webpage (although it is really Daddy's). The above picture is of Kaylin taken
Easter Sunday of this year.
We are still in the process of moving all genealogy and history links to our other two homepages. These
pages are linked below. The Genealogy Data Homepage is up and running, but the other Genealogy Homepage is still under construction.
We will keep the other genealogy links scattered throughout the other pages until the Genealogy Homepage is complete.
We had fun putting this page together and are glac you stopped by. Please feel free to comment to us using
the email address at the bottom of the page.
This past Christmas was difficult for our family. Kaylin's great-grandmother Nanny passed away on Christmas
Day. Kaylin got to see Nanny a lot in her final months since Nanny lived with Pop Pop and Grandma Hatfield and I stayed there
several hours everyday during the week. Nanny was 92 years old. We will all miss Nanny, but know she got to spend her first
Christmas with Papa in over 20 yrs. Nanny was Home for the holidays.
My roots are in WV. I moved to Delaware in 1983 after graduating from college. I have worked for a Biological
Firm for the past 19 plus years.
Lisa was born in Cameroun, Africa. Her parents, like her paternal grandmothers, are missionaries. Lisa
spent her early years in Africa, but spent her teenage years in the US. When her parents returned to Africa, Lisa remained
in the States to finish college.
I met Lisa in Church in the Spring of 1998. We were engaged in September 1998 and married in May 1999.
Later that fall, I took Lisa back to Wetzel Co WV for my 20th high school reunion. The following May (2000) we went to Africa
so I could see where Lisa grew up. This was my first time out of the country. Besides Cameroun, we also spent time in Kenya
(where we went on a safari) and France. I came back to the States with 18 rolls of 35mm film to develope.
In 2001 we welcomed Kaylin Jean to our family. She is the joy of our lives. Kaylin's name comes from Lisa's
middle name (Kay), her mother's middle name (Lynette), and my mother's middle name (Jean). She was born November 9, 2001.
After her birth, the Dr. noticed that she was holding her arm a little funny. They found out that due to the somewhat difficult
entry into this world, Kaylin had suffered a broken collar bone. Fortunately, it was a clean break and caused no real problems.
It healed on its own in just a couple of weeks. Next, Kaylin became pretty yellow due to the jaundice. This condition was
not surprising as it was due to our different blood types. Kaylin had to stay an extra night in the hospital and had to come
home with a "bili-blanket". She had her blood drawn every day or so for the first week or so. That too went away. The biggest
scare was when the Dr discovered a small heart murmer which was confirmed by an EKG. A few weeks later, the Dr called and
said that the murmer was due to a portion of her heart had not closed. The good news was that it was in the upper muscular
region where the problem usually will correct itself with time. When Kaylin was about a month old, she met with a pediatric
cardiologist. After listening and performing another EKG, it was determined that the problem had corrected itself. We believe
the prayers from our friends and families had a lot to do with this.
Kaylin just turned one this past November. She had a big party a couple of weeks early so her Grandparents
from Africa could help celebrate.
Kaylin is so blessed to have such loving grandparents. My parents watch her 4 days a week for several hours.
Unfortunately, Lisa's parents will only get to see her about once a year until they retire in several years and move back
to the States. Even though she doesn't get to see them too much, we know she is in their prayers daily and Kaylin loves them
dearly.
Kaylin is looking forward to welcoming her younger sibling in October of this year.
We will be making updates every now and then. Thanks again for stopping by.
