| We kept going south, navigating around Shark Point on Marina Island, the channel has three buoys (which we found confusing) to mark the channel through the rocks and over the sand-spit, then around the corner to Gorge Harbour, on the south end of Cortes Island.
Gorge Harbour is located on the south end of Cortes Island. The Gorge Harbour entrance is a high cliff wall to port as you enter, and the passage is wide and deep, easy to safely navigate. Just remember to go to port (left) when you reach the island in the middle, at the end of the passage. There are MANY large submerged rocks in the greater harbor area, so check your chart carefully. The harbor is full of large well-established aquaculture growing operations, and the shore is lined with very large expensive homes with boat docks and very expensive yachts. This must be where the "rich" Canadians live. We anchored northwest of the Gorge Harbour Marina, in 25' of water. The Marina store is very small, not very well stocked, and the prices very high. We didn't buy much, and left the next morning, unimpressed. |
