Powell River
Sunshine Coast, BC Canada

Friday morning June 11th, we headed north again, up the BC mainland coast, this time bound for Powell River and the Westview Marina (City Owned and Operated), where we met up with and spent a delightful time with our friends Will and Sarah, who live there. There are kind of shy, so sorry, no pictures of them.

We want to say that the City dock is usually full, but very well managed. The Warffingers come out and help you dock or raft-up to another boat, when you call on the VHF for arrival, and will come out and help you depart, as well. The current at the "mouth" of the breakwater is swift, os are the winds.

Both Warffingers were great, and moorage fees and diesel fuel very reasonable. It is quite a walk up a steep hill, then on to a large Safeway market, perhaps 2 miles distance.

While on the City dock, we met a delightful character, "Tugboat Larry" was his name, who was full of great information. He even came aboard and showed Connie how to clean the fresh-caught prawns, which I had just purchased from the local fishermen down the dock. We got to talking about prawning in Desolation Sound, and that I didn't have a prawn trap, only a crab trap, so Larry sold me his extra prawn trap, which worked really great for us. Caught plenty!!! Thanks Tugboat Larry!!!
