| Early in June, we left Blaine WA, and headed across Semiahmoo Bay to White Rock BC, where we reported to Canadian Customs. Then with customs complete, we proceeded out around Point Roberts, then headed north, up along the BC mainland coast, past the Tsawwassen ferry terminal, past the entrance to the Fraser River, past the turns to the Vancouver Harbours.
Our first night destination was the Plumper Cove Marine Park anchorage on Keats Island, across from the famous Gibson's Marina, an hour and half or so from Vancouver. But the sea was so nice and calm, and we had a stern breeze and following sea current, so we decided to keep going, to our following night's destination, Pender Harbour, on the beautiful Sechelt Peninsula. I think it was around 7:00pm when we pulled into Pender Harbour. The harbour entrance has a few well-marked rocks and small shallow islets to avoid, on the way in. Inside the harbour entrance, Pender Harbour is quite large in size. There are several small, medium and large bays, most with private homes and boat docks, lots of marinas, fishing lodges, and the small town of Maderia Park. We dropped anchor in Garden Bay, in 25' of water. While in Garden Bay, we launched our dingy and visited the Garden Bay area and its 2 marinas, Hospital Cove around the point, then went across to Maderia Park for some groceries at the IGA/Marketplace store there. The IGA/Marketplace is a very well-stocked store and at regular (non-tourist) prices. |
