| Our idea of cruising...
Initially, when we first started cruising years ago in the Puget Sound and San Juan Islands area, we enjoyed cruising from marina to marina; the familiarity of tying to a dock at night, the convenience of plugging into shore power and water, and visiting the local seaside towns... the stores, pubs and restaurants... an opulent lifestyle for sure. But, since moving to Blaine eight years ago, we have discovered the adventure in exploring the rugged South Coast of British Columbia, far away from all the noise, sprawl and hustle-bustle of civilization; the long deep inland fjords carved by glaciers ages ago, surrounded by snow-capped mountains rising from sea level 3,000’ - 5,000’, the magnificent waterfalls, streams and rivers cascading down into the sea, right in front of us! There are literally tens-of-thousands of islands and islets big and small, mostly deserted and pristine. The evergreen forests grow down to the water and line the coves and coastline. We’ve discovered the breathtaking beauty and tranquility of getting back to nature. So now instead of chasing from marina-to-marina and fighting for expensive reserved space, we set our anchor in a deserted cove somewhere, and enjoy the peace and harmony, the old-growth forests and towering snow-capped mountain peaks all around us, the majestic Bald Eagles and families circulating overhead on the sea breeze everywhere, and of course the terrific fishing for crab, prawns, oysters, and clams, not to forget salmon, halibut, and other plentyful wild ocean fish. Now that’s "our idea" of cruising... If you see us out there on the water, hail us "JUST PLAYIN" on VHF Channel 16. |
