SWATboy Reunion Summer 2004
Bay Area-wide
Brad and Jay came out to hang in SF for a few days. Even though I've lived here for over 20 years, I'd never beem to Alcatraz.  Brad wanted to go, so off we went to Fisherman's Wharf.  We saw wildlife.  Brad had an exotic camera, which made him look not at all like a tourist.  We marveled at the attractive, cozy studio apartments with Bay views available on the island.  Brad tried one of them on for size and found it snug and authentic, if a little "broken in".  I was having a bad hair day - no, actually, that's the paper mache head used by the Clint Eastwood character in "Escape from Alcatraz" to fool the night check by the guards during the only escape attempt that might have actually worked.  The screws like to say the sharks got 'em, but you never know.

Then we met up with Jay and headed out to the Hoadleys'.  Brad wound up in the women's bathroom at BART.  That was funny.   We sang the old songs and told the old stories while we waited for Jim to pick us up in Walnut Creek.  Jim picked us up, and then he sang the old songs and told the old stories, too.   Jim proved manliness in the barbeque pit.   We wallowed in the dappled sunshine of Jim and Dot's hillside 60's house, posed for the latest in a series, then went out for ice cream (Cold Stone, overrated).   A splendid day around the Bay with the SWATboys.

Also and later:  Brad and the Bs went to see the rumored-to-be-cool art in a church on Potrero Hill.  It lived up to its billing - saints (official and not so) dance around the walls and the night sky decorates the ceiling - also here, here's lady godiva, here's john muir, here's a nice man with a bear and here's ella fitzgerald and anne frank.  An unlikely but interesting outing.

We also went to dinner at Peña Pacha Mama in North Beach, had a fine Peruvian dinner (appetizers, dinners one, two and three) and saw one of the manifestations of Ancient Future.  Brad, ever cosmopolitan, had a mojito, and yes that is a cocktail joke.  There are other scenes from this reunion that you might enjoy - here's a fishcar on the embarcadero, an only-slightly-doctored shot on the border of north beach and chinatown and a figleaf.
