POETRY PROJECT Worksheet 1 - Lightfoot
Student name__________________________
Goal: To get a vital sense of the poetry world
– what poetry is, what wonderful variety is available, who writes poems,
what makes poetry special as a form of literature, and why people love
and need poetry in their lives.
Day 1 – 30 min., 15 at each site: Choose 2 Web
poetry sites without opening them. Write site names below.
Go to one; add URL.
Explore the site to get a sense of the material
in it – jump in and swim around, read a few poems, copy some phrases,
images, lines, poem titles, and names of poets that interest you or give
you pleasure.
Go back to a poem at the site that caught your attention,
and read it again slowly.
To the title of the reread poem, add poet’s name
& nationality, poem's date or decade, and a star*. For poems you especially
like, put two stars (**) next to the title.
Go to the second site and repeat the above steps.
