Madi,
India Huichol- Chicana
Mi amiga, with many comadres y compadres
A madre de Aztlan
A woman of fire
Like a volcano
Feeling and Loving so deeply
She had a big heart
For people she loved
Her children, grandchildren
and her friends
La Raza Primero
A community activist
A teacher, councilor, an advocate for teens and families
Una artista y poeta
For education and cultura
Very knowledgable
But had a humorous side
She felt so deeply moved by the injustices
politcally, socially
And fought like hell...
She carried herself with dignity and pride
Her daily ritual
Her make up, her colors and jewelry just right
As if to get ready for anything
A battle or for a celebration
She loved her music from oldies to salsa
And seemed to get stronger when dancing
She was a true salsera
Awakened at night
From life's daily struggles,
pains, and injustices of the World
She created her world
As she felt it -very deeply
through art and poetry
She didn't hold back
She will be greatly missed
Memories of her
Many
But her spiritual body exists right now
Talk to her, she is still here to comfort us
Madi, Gracias Por Todo
My spiritual sister
She fought the battle bravely
She's still talking to me to kick some *#@*!
And not back down, but to speak up for truth
Once so full of life
Now, so full of light
She walked home in Beauty.........
