Benjamin Arenas

Benjamin Arenas was born in 1967 in Araure, Portuguesa state, Venezuela. He went to school from 1973 to 1978 leaving his studies unfinished. He became proficient at carpentry. Arenas worked drawing for advertising seminars and in 1984 assists to the first seminar Anti-Drugs. Arenas participates in the Movement of Plastic Artist Acarigua-Araure (M.A.P.A.) showing his work for the first time, mainly landscapes. In 1985, funds with a group of artists the experimental movement "Artistas Araureños" (A.R.A.R) making campaigns of murals, in recreational parks. For eighteen years he is an active in the creation of the "Vía Crucis Viviente" (The Live Via Crucis), in Araure. Arenas did his military service from 1986 to 1988. In 1991 Arenas participates in the first Cultural jours of the Portuguesa State, experimenting in the craftmanship field. In 1996, after offering a course on Socio-Cultural Animation, in the Federación Nacional de Ateneos, begins working as such, in the Culture Directive of the mayoralty of Araure. He also participates in organization commissions of municipal and regional Painting Salons. In 1997 he participates in the first National Fair of Craftsmanship in Caracas, organized by The National Counsel of Culture. Arenas is then awarded a medal for merit, and the Day of the Youth Order "Batallon Vencedores de Araure" both for cultural work. In 1998 Arenas finishes his working commitments and becomes a full-time artist.
