The whole western half of the US must be experiencing some kind of drought, because everything that I saw once the clouds disappeared (which was somewhere over western Nebraska) looked brown and dried up.  Even up-close it didn't look any better -- when we landed at the new Denver International Airport, all of the grasses and weeds growing up around the airport runways were dried up.
 
There must be moisture somewhere, though, as evidenced by these snow-capped mountains somewhere in the vicinity of Vail, Colorado (taken from an altitude of about 35,000 feet above sea level, according to the in-flight TV on the back of the seat in front of me).
