A birth doula is a person whose sole purpose is to take care of a woman during labor, providing whatever comfort measures are necessary for her to have as perfect a birth as is possible. The doula provides comfort measures including gentle massage, help with breathing, positive visualization and encouragement. A birth doula is not a doctor, nurse or midwife and therefore does not provide medical procedures or diagnosis. My focus as a doula is to provide a calming presence to the entire birth process.

As your birth doula, I:

"I picture myself in the doorway, arms outstretched saying, 'No harm shall come to this woman'. That's the service I provide."

- Barbara Grubman, CD (DONA)
