Ixcan, Guatemala

The CHF/USAID Communities in Transition project works to improve the condition of bridges and roads in the Ixcan and the Franja Transversal del Norte of Alta Verapaz. Here are some shots near and in the town of Mayaland taken in 1999.

This bridge is on the Franja Transversal del Norte between the Rió Xalbal and the Río Pescado.

Here is the bridge replacing the one above built by CHF and the local community with funding from USAID and FONAPAZ. This is the day before the cement was poured on the top.

This truck is leaving Mayaland after finishing its work there. It carries soldiers who are part of the Organization of American States demining program. They have just blown a large land mine on June 22, 1999 found about 150 meters from the cooperative store near the airfield.

CHF Agroforestry personnel wait while Daniel, the Wings of Hope pilot, checks the engine on the Cessna Stationair II before their flight to the southern Ixcan. They will be picked up by another bush pilot the following day.
