American Polygraph Association (APA) - The APA is the largest professional organization for polygraph examiners. Its members come from the private sector, law enforcement, and government agencies. Its web site has information about examiner training, ethical standards, and answers to common questions about polygraph. American Association of Police Polygraphists (AAPP) - The AAPP consists exclusively of polygraph examiners who are or have been employed by law enforcement agencies. The web site includes standards of polygraph practice. National Polygraph Association (NPA) - The NPA is oriented more toward private examiners than the APA, although membership is open to any examiner. The web site has information about examiner training and the history and standards of the organization. Northwest Polygraph Examiner's Association (NPEA) - The NPEA is one of the largest state or regional associations of polygraph examiners in the U.S. Its members, law enforcement and private, come primarily from Oregon and Washington, but examiners from Alaska, Idaho, Nevada, and Montana are also members. Megan's Law and its effect on recidivism rates for sex offenders - Reports issued by the State of Washington and the State of New Jersey suggest that Megan's Law, requiring registration by convicted sex offenders and allowing for public notification of offenders' residences, has no measurable effect on re-offense. These reports are available in PDF format. Megan's Law exists in some form in virtually all states, but research on its effectiveness is scarce. The Journal of Credibility Assessment - Charles Honts, Ph.D., Boise State University, publishes this online journal that includes research, transcripts, and articles about matters of importance to polygraph testing, including a legal resource page. The Polygraph Place - This commercial site includes names and contact information for examiners in selectable geographic areas. The listings are submitted by any interested examiner and do not necessarily represent a complete list of all examiners in a particular area. A message forum allows exchange of questions and answers about polygraph.
