Artist's Statement:My work is primarily about adaptation and the
idea that
technology has become part of our evolution. My process involves
a chain reaction that begins in the computer. I make digital
music that inspires my paintings. When I paint I listen to music,
the paintings adapt and move to this, the result might be seen as a
frozen dance. I work in this way because I believe that the
environment an artist works in, plays an important part of how and what
is created. I also believe that by working in this way, aspects
of popular culture are filtered out, and unique emotions are
amplified. When different Media combine to describe the same
emotion and aesthetic, an inventive feedback begins to saturate the
mind with information but also energy. A somehow unique
constellation fragmented but connected by trajectories of
emotion. The gift of life given to unknown space and intense
actions explode and transform stone into life. The goal is to
create a powerful motivating force that will inspire energy in all the
different parts of life. The iconography of my work is essentially
naturalistic, which
creates the duality between nature and man made constructs. My
painting process incorporates the idea that all creatures are forced to
adapt to their surroundings. To do this I first establish a
location, this is done by first painting the air. Then a terrain
is created and finally life is given to some of these forms. I am
very engaged with creating paintings that imply life without directly
depicting a creature. Life is implied through repetitive
movements that hint at decision making, or by imitating natural
textures and forms. Life is also suggested by using the circle to
build up structures that eventually become a center of energy.
This process relies on the idea that orbital gesture and circular
movement can be translated into a static symbol of perpetual time and
energy. A metaphor for the cycling of the seasons and personal
habits we repeat. The rotating circles create a loop of poetic
and sculptural energy that is a unique form of musical
repetition. As the eye flows through the picture from one circle
to the next, it follows predetermined paths that mimic musical
progression. The result is an image that cannot be seen entirely
in one glance, it must be read like a word. The meaning of the image can be understood as a kind of musical behavior and action. These works can be compared to puppets or fishing lures, because they are an extension of the body than mimics life with man made technologies not just through realism, but with action. My goal is to inspire others to also take action in their own lives, in their own unique ways. The paintings are sometimes motivators of an unspecified energy. |
