"ELHAZ, HALLOW THIS STEAD AND BANISH ALL ILL!"
repeat in all aetts sunwise. return to harrow, facing west and anding in elhaz:
"HALLOW AND MAKE HOLY THIS HARROW AND STEAD TO THE SERVICE OF FREYA VANADIS AND THE DISIR OF OUR CLANS, BANISHING ALL WIGHTS BANEFUL TO OUR WORK HERE TONIGHT! AS HAMA (HEIMDALL'S NAME IN BEOWULF) BRIGHT WARDS BIFROST MAY THIS STEAD BE LIKEWISE WARDED AGAINST ALL BALEFUL THINGS!"
INVOCATION:(still standing in elhaz)
"FREYA VANADIS, YOU WATCH OVER YOUR FOLK WHO DWELL HERE ON MIDGARTH. THE GIFTS THAT YOU, YOUR BROTHER INGVI AND YOUR MOTHER NERTHUS GAVE US OF FLESH AND FOWL, FRUITS AND GRAINS ARE BEING GATHERED IN FOR THE MONTHS OF DARK COLDNESS TO COME. BE WITH US, WATCH OVER US, WITH THE DISIR OF OUR CLANS THROUGH THE WINTER MONTHS TO COME UNTIL THE SUN'S WAXING STRENGTH WARMS THE EARTH'S REAWAKENING LIFE. OPEN OUR MINDS AND HEARTS TO YOUR AWESOME PRESENCE FREYA, AND BE WELCOMED AMONG US.
"DISIR OF OUR CLANS, WOMEN SPIRITS, WATCHERS OVER THE FOLK, THE HIDDEN PROTECTORS, WE WELCOME YOU INTO OUR STEAD TONIGHT AND ASK FOR YOUR BLESSINGS UPON THE FOLK GATHERED HERE.
"HAIL VANADIS! HAIL THE DISIR!"
REDE: "HARKEN TO MY HOLY REDE. HAIL TO THOSE WHO HEAR MY WORDS."
"SUMMER IS OVER, THE TIME OF HARVESTS HAS COME. TOBACCO AND HAY ARE DRYING IN BARNS AND FIELDS. RIPENED CORN AWAITS PICKERS. OUR FRUIT TREES ARE HEAVY WITH THEIR RIPE FRUIT AND VEGETABLES ALREADY ARE ON OUR TABLES AND IN OUR PANTRIES. WE STAND AT WINTER'S DOOR, AT THE TWILIGHT OF THE YEAR. NOW IS WHEN WE FINISH OUR PREPARATIONS FOR THE WINTER TO COME, LAYING DOWN FOOD AND WOOD, AND REPAIRING OUR HOMES AND CLOTHING. NOW IS WHEN WE CALL UPON THE DISIR, OUR ANCESTRAL FEMALE PROTECTIVE SPIRITS, AND FREYA VANADIS, TO ASK FOR THEIR HELP AND GUIDANCE, FOR THE GOOD OF THE CLAN AND FOR THE FOLK."
OFFERING: pour cider into horn.
"VANADIS, MIGHTY DISIR, WE HAVE COME TOGETHER IN YOUR PRESENCE TO ASK FOR YOUR PROTECTION AND BLESSINGS, AND TO OFFER YOU SACRIFICE; NOT OF BLOOD, BUT THE FREE GIVING OF OUR HUMAN EFFORTS, OUR STRUGGLES, AND OUR DEVOTION. MAY IT AID US, GODS AND HUMANKIND ALIKE, IN OUR STRUGGLES AGAINST THOSE WHO DENY YOUR EXISTENCE AND WOULD SET THE CHAINS OF SLAVERY UPON THE FREE FOLK ON MIDGARTH!"
raise horn and keep aloft until the sacrifice is accepted, then pour cider into the cauldron.
BLESSING: fill horn with more cider, draw berkano rune over cider then hold hands over horn.
"MIGHTY ONES , YOU HAVE ACCEPTED OUR SACRIFICE REPRESENTED BY THE CIDER IN THIS HORN. POUR NOW YOUR MIGHT AND BLESSINGS INTO THIS CIDER SO THAT WE MAY GROW CLOSER TO YOU AND EACH OTHER BY SHARING IT AMONG US.
"FREYA VANADIS, WINTER IS STILL A TIME OF DEATH AND RENEWAL. KEEP US CLOSE TO YOUR BREAST AND WATCH OVER US. WE ARE MINDFUL OF YOU IN THIS SEASON. BE YOU MINDFUL OF US."
when cider is charged, place tine in blessing bowl and pour a small amount of blessed cider over it. sprinkle harrow on all four sides. then sprinkle each of the folk:
"I GIVE YOU THE BLESSING OF FREYA AND THE DISIR."
pick up horn and offer toast to Freya and the Disir. then offer horn to each of the folk so they may do the same.
"TAKE WITHIN FREYA'S AND THE DISIR'S MIGHT."
after all have toasted and drunk, refill the horn with cider. either walk to each aett in turn or stand by the cauldron and offer cider to the Disir of each aett.
"TO THE DISIR OF THE NORTH, AN OFFERING!
TO THE DISIR OF THE EAST, AN OFFERING!
TO THE DISIR OF THE SOUTH, AN OFFERING!
TO THE DISIR OF THE WEST, AN OFFERING!"
after an offering is given to all the aetts, pour more cider into the horn, a representative of each household may now come to the harrow and pour an offering to the Disir of their clan(s) into the cauldron.
"THE SACRIFICE HAS BEEN ACCEPTED, AND FREYA VANADIS' AND THE DISIR'S BLESSINGS RECEIVED. THIS BLOT IS DONE. MAY IT STRENGTHEN THE BONDS OF KINSHIP AND TROTH BETWEEN OUR GODS, THE DISIR, AND OURSELVES."
stand in elhaz facing west ( or in the west aett ), gander in hand:
"FREYA VANADIS, DISIR OF OUR CLANS, WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRESENCE HERE WITH US TODAY AND FOR THE BLESSINGS YOU GIVE US. PRAISE TO YOU FREYA VANADIS AND TO THE DISIR, AND FAREWELL."
face each aett and repeat:
"HAIL AND FAREWELL."
remember to dissolve the elhaz runes at each aett as you say farewell.
Disablot Participant ' s Guide
(Note from Jordsvin: this is from a slightly different version of this blot, but I have included it anyway, since I believe it to be useful and informative.)
The Disir are the ancestral, feminine protective spirits of Germanic religion. They include the spirits of female ancestors, as well as other beings of might who guard over the prosperity and welfare of family, clan, and folk.
There will be portions of the Disablot in which you will be asked to participate. To make this easier for you, I have prepared this "cheat-sheet".
The first part of the rite, calling for your participation is during the invocation. During the calls invoking Freya, we ask that, after each kenning (name), everyone say, "COME TO US!" Then, after the invocation of the Disir, we will all say, "HAIL VANADIS! HAIL THE DISIR!"
The next time you will be asked to actively participate will be during the blessing. When you are offered the horn to drink from, you may, if you wish, offer a toast to Freya. A simple "HAIL, FREYA' is sufficient, although you may certainly say more if you wish.
The next time your active participation is asked for is during the offering to the Disir. After the gydja has offered cider to the Disir of the Aetts (North, East, South, and West), then a representative of each household attending is urged to come forward and pour an offering to the Disir of your own clan and household, drink, and hand it back to me. This is done by pouring a small libation into the bowl on the stalli (altar) and saying something like, "HAIL THE DISIR OF MY CLAN (or HOUSEHOLD)! WATCH OVER US IN THE COMING MONTHS!"
The final time for your participation comes at the end of the blot, when we will bid Freya and the Disir farewell. The gydja will raise her gandr (wand) to each of the directions, and we will all say, "HAIL, AND FAREWELL!"
Asatru rites such as this one are meant to be joyous, celebratory occasions. Respect for the gods is called for, of course, but a somber demeanor is not. The gods are our kin and friends, so greet them joyously, with great feeling, as you would a dear friend. Don't be timid; raise the horn with fire and joy and firmly call out, "HAIL!!!"
We hope you enjoy the blot, and that it serves to strengthen and inspire you.
