"Stunt
Car How-To's"
On page 20 of Car Craft, August 2000,
in the Bondurant review, it’s
stated that the “Shark” was a Fairmont!
The last year of the Fairmont was 1983,
whereas the Shark is a 1985 LTD-LX!
In 83 the Fairmont “Fox” chassis was up-graded & renamed
the LTD, (the big LTD was
renamed the Crown Victoria) which continued till 86.
This being a “who is Bob Bondurant” review,
they completely missed giving credit to Bondurant for being the
“Father” of the
LTD LX.
Bondurant wanted a larger 4 door car than the Mustang to take
students for a demo ride around the racetrack.
So he dropped a 5.0 HO, 5
speed in a LTD, he liked it, Ford
liked it & the LTD-LX was born! The rare 84-85 LTD-LX (only 3260 were made) is now a super-sleeper!
Police HO LTD’s
were also made in 84-85. The Shark is the only apparent Survivor of Bob’s fleet of LX’s used at his Driving School! The others were apparently crushed as they weren’t “Streetable” (SMOG), as the production ones didn’t come with a 4V, 5 speed, just a 5.0 HO with CFI & an AOD.
