The Pacific Beach Community Planning Committee recommended, by a 14 to 1 vote, that the Chokers be removed & 4 way Stop signs be installed!
Now if only the great City of San Diego can swallow it's pride, (yes they did, give them credit!) having learned a valuable lesson, & go along with this, respecting the concerns of the people who actually have to live with this ugly, property devaluing, hazardous experiment!

No, this isn't about S&M or Dog control, but self punishing vehicle speed control, if you are unlucky, NOT NECESSARILY GUILTY!
Maybe 1 mph + in a SUV, as easy as they overturn!
Maybe 2 mph + if you are driving your Family car!
Maybe up to 5 mph if you are in a Full size Pickup, with their stronger suspensions!
In a HumVee? Have fun!
So what's the big deal about running into Curbs you ask, everyone knows better than to do that! Well, these Curbs are a deliberate, unexpected, Obstacle in the Middle of the street, forming a Island, which SD calls a Median Choker. Along with the parked vehicle in the last spot at the curb, this requires a sudden Ziging towards the gutter, & then a Zaging to miss the 1st parked car across the intersection! This normally requires a slowing of speed, at least for the first couple times. Of course, that just makes it more of a Extreme Challenge & fun for some!
Is SD is threatening you? By deliberately making this Public Roadway UNSAFE, by placing this dangerous, unsuspecting, unknown to millions, (try to even find this type & setup of Choker on the www! Does most everyone else know something SD doesn't? ) large obstacle in your normal driving path?
So what's the big deal you ask again, just slow down & avoid them! No, slow speed congestion can be unforgiving! Then they may be a insidious, Blindsiding BOOBY-TRAP!
Say you are a first-timer down this street, (even worse if looking for a house address or a bit distracted), you come up behind this somewhat slow moving SUV or Truck (can't really see around either). You can tell that an intersection is just ahead tho. Unexpectedly, this vehicle makes a sudden move to the Right, probably applying it's brakes! You think, this Idiot is going to turn right without using his/her turn signals! So what do you do? Probably keep going straight ahead or even swinging a bit to the Left to avoid this strange acting vehicle in front of you! Then BAM! You hit the Obstacle/Choker!
What you say, didn't you learn to play FOLLOW THE LEADER in Kindergarten? What a Boondoggle!
You had no idea this insidious, Blindsiding Booby-Trap was there, unable to see it coming & probably never having seen/heard of such before!
Is SD writing the "BOOK" on how NOT to do it or what???
